For years, I've been addicted to Easy modes to the point where it's gotten boring and I have to force myself to try a harder difficulty. I guess I'm more concerned with winning than I am with challenge.

I'm the opposite. I generally like to crank the difficulty up if possible. To show you how sadistic I am, right now I'm trying to make it all the way through Super Mario Bros. 2 Lost Levels using no warps and using only one man. I've done it with 2 men, but not with one just yet. Sick I tell ya! SICK!
My philosophy is, you should play the way you enjoy playing. It's your quarter.
@Corbie.... Nice man! Good luck with that one, Ive beaten the original Mario with no lives lost but not the Lost Levels.
There are very VERY few games Ive ever even hit the EASY button on, EVER. I hate easy games and has been a big turn off to me from Nintendo with all the easy games they have release the last few years. I think the last time Ive played on Easy was on Street Fighter 4 as the final boss is almost impossible to defeat. Im really bad about starting off on the hardest difficulties and getting bogged down in the games and having to restart on Normal difficulties to get the hang of the games better then go back.
Lately Ive been craving a milder games as the last long while Ive been playin a lot of really difficult games!
Wow Corbie that's incredible! There must be some way mankind could employ your skills for the betterment of the human race. Can't you disarm bombs or something, with your nerves of steel?
The main examples of me increasing the difficulty are:
Forza Motorsport 2: removing the suggested like (to make it more realistic), making the damage "simulation", and increasing the AI difficulty Forza Motorsport 3: same as above Yoshi's Story: once I figured out that each number was a difficulty level (1 = easy, 2 = normal, 3 = hard, 4 = expert). I try the hardest first, then work my way down if necessary. Each level has a different storyline, so it's more fun that way.

I used to eat Lucky Charms all the time, but now I've begun to eat Cheerios because I know that Lucky Charms are basically sugar mixed with sugar. I guess I'm concerned with long lasting health more nowadays than a good taste in the morning.

I'm with you, I put it on the hardest difficulty at all times... but I wouldn't set myself little challenges like you do
It's bad enough being a completionist as it is... but I never ever consider playing games on anything other then 'master' or 'expert' or whatever the case may be.
I grew out of it, played easy always when I was younger since back then I always played a game at least twice. So easy first playthrough for story and such, and normal/hard for a challenge second playthrough.
Nowadays It's all hard or normal, always hard for second. Normal isn't hard at all most of the times, at least not with todays games. Easy really loses it's charm quickly, could never go back to playing games on that, it totally ruins the game experience.
There he goes, Firkraag. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. - My VGscore
One stupid thing I always did was play the "easy" mode on Castle of Illusion for the Game Gear. That way, you get the gems really quickly. By comparison, the actual levels are very difficult.

I'm a hard-mode only person too....given that I normally have too much on my plate to play games multiple times, I like to get as much as I can out of the first play. Hard forces me to get good at the mechanics faster and exposes balance problems more easily.

I try to beat the games right now on all difficulty modes, if these said games have a difficulty option. The replayability in some of these video games with difficulty modes comes from different difficulty modes, especially if these games might have more than one ending. For example: if you beat Star Parodier on Easy with any character, you get the worst ending. But if you beat it on Normal, the ending will be good. But, should it be beaten on Hard, you'll obtain the best ending out of the three (at least, that's how I picture it). I keep trying and trying to beat Hard mode, but it's just something that's gonna take awhile to accomplish, because it's very difficult on Hard, but I will persevere. Also, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time's true ending will be seen once Hard mode has been accomplished (I've done it a few times). Beating it on Easy or Normal will have you recommended to try a harder difficulty mode.
If there is more than one mode, I do it on either easy or medium. If it has replay value, I'll do the hard mode. I usually only do it on easy if their are collectibles (OoT's skull spiders, BF:BC gold and weapons, stuff like that) in the game.
The Game.
Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

It's not quarters anymore I'm a normal person
Sean Aaron ~ "The secret is out: I'm really an American cat-girl." Q: How many physicists does it take to change a light bulb? A: Two, one to hold the light bulb, the other to rotate the universe.
I've beaten the lost levels in three minutes with 1 life. Ok I kid. lol

Arcana is an RPG for the SNES that is so obscure that not everyone is familiar with it; but for those that have played it, they either loved it or hated it. I stand on the fence that loved it, 'cause it was a very fun first-person RPG, imo, and my first foray into first-person RPGs. Some people say that the game is very difficult, though I find the difficulty to be quite overrated. Maybe it's because I keep going back and forth from or to the village to get the supplies and fully restore my party's health. Despite all this, I've beaten every single boss (Empress Rimsala's final two forms included) on my first try. Now that I'm on my second playthrough of the game, I haven't lost a single life in the game yet (the first playthrough I lost two during the Ice Dungeon (three) chapter).
I usually play on lower difficulties, because I would rather experince as much of a game as I can - as in trying every level/stage in the game - rather than getting too frustated with a game because I suck at it, and then dropping it alltogether.
I don't think games get less fun in general playing on easier levels. Really good games allways have replay value for harder difficulties.
In other words, I am not that good a gamer, so I have to play on easy
I only use easy difficulty settings when I need to unlock a bunch of things. Otherwise I play on either normal or hard settings. I'll have a big smile on my face if I ever manage to unlock all 30 racers in F-Zero X.
