My top 10 RPGs ever:
1. Pokémon Diamond: I've lost track of how many hours I blew in that game, but I know I spent 3 years on it. Ace soundtracks, over 400 Pokémon and a lot to discover and a plethora of challenges to test yourself against... Pokémon games rarely come as good as that.
2. Pokémon Heartgold: Might not have had many interactible songs like Diamond, but this unparalleled remake kept the Pokémon banner high.
3. Pokémon Black: Typical that Pokémon must snag the top 3 honors in my best RPG's ever. This game had the finest music, BIG cities with skyscrapers, parks and their own uniqueness, plus the fact that the game had 150 brand-new Pokémon.
4. Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn: If Awakening's gonna top this, it's got a lot to live up to. Tons of unique characters, a compelling 30-hour storyline... and the option to view character art!
5.Golden Sun: The Lost Age: A bigger, bolder, more innovative sequel to the first game.
6. Golden Sun: Who cares if it was kinda short? The wealth of things to do, see and discover ensures you come back for more.
7. Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story: Humorous & engaging, this game had it all in Mario RPGs. That final battle against Dark Bowser was, in a word: EPIC.
8.Final Fantasy Tactics Advance: Rich-hued graphics, un-disappointing music and an immersive story ensures this stays on the top 10.
9.DQVI: Realms of Revelation: Nothing to say in terms of musical value. But a dark, compelling story kept me hooked from start to finish.
10.Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness: A borderline-good RPG, and the very first Mystery Dungeon game I ever played.

This is tough because there have been so many great ones:
1. Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii)
2. Dragon Warrior IV (NES)
3. Final Fantasy III (SNES) or FFVI (SFAM)
4. Chrono Trigger (DS) — a little better than the original SNES one
5. Dragon Quest VI (SFAM) — my friend SpSpiff's translation
6. Final Fantasy II (SNES) or FFIV (SFAM)
7. Dragon Quest V (SFAM) — again, SpSpiff's translation
8. Final Fantasy V Advance (GBA) — slightly better than the SFAM version
9. Dragon Quest VIII (PS2)
10. Deja Vu (NES) — not exactly a traditional choice, but I have memories of beating that game in so many different ways

Missing my NES games...

Best of the Rest:
The World Ends With You: Vulgar dialogue really puts me off, but who can say no to this wonderful blend of R'n'B, hip-hop & rock?
Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood: Featuring our fave Sonic characters, and a story that sees Sonic and friends traversing alien homes, this is a can't miss.
Secret of Mana 2: Dare I admit I'm a sucker for fantasy furred animals that can stand on their own two legs (I also like the 4-legged variety just as well)? That's why starter character Kevin is my #1, and that's why I'll always value this RPG.
Breath of Fire: The SNES version. Ignore the dopey-looking way of the game and you'll discover a hidden game gem. And if anyone's reading this... HOW DO I BEAT TYR?!?
Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon: May not have been as compelling as Fire Emblem, but still proved competent.
Dragon Quest 1: When was this game at its best? When I ignored the "Where to head next" question and when I went where I feel like going. Can anyone give me a detailed, step-by-step procedure on how to get to the Dragon King's lair?
Final Fantasy 6 Advance: This had music, story, characters and cutscenes that prompt the hope of a 3DS remake.
Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom: Got this game 3 weeks ago, and only one word can describe what I felt so far: FANTASTIC.
FFCC The Crystal Bearers: This game transforms from a simple, medieval age to one of technology. It also does away with comical shields, oversized swords and fancy armor, having you use Layle's psychokinetic powers to save the day. Bold, but correct, move from Square Enix.

If there are any other games that deserve featuring, it's not that the games royally suck. They're just too good for a "Best of the Rest" list, and/or I haven't gotten around to playing them yet. Merci for reading!

Honest Question here, but how can you honestly enjoy 'The Last Story' more than Xenoblade Chronicles??? I've played about half way through 'The Last Story' and after awhile it just got waay to repetitive.

You're right about that. For whatever reason, I've never gotten around to playing any.

I'd recommend picking up Persona 3 or 4. They're both top-notch games that are just some of the best JRPG's out there. They're super long, but they don't really feel long because of how well paced they are.

Best thread ever

6. Kingdom Hearts
7. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
8. Pokemon HeartGold

There are still a lot of RPGs that I haven't played enough to have an opinion on, so this list could drastically change at any time.

It's probably because I haven't played many different RPG's,but I just really enjoyed the game, with it's innovative and fast-paced battle system, and beautiful storytelling.

I'm not one to make lists, but I simply adore your list.

By the by, what is Icewind Dale? I've played and enjoyed every game on your list except that. Really curious to know what your opinion of it is.

Icewind Dale is a Dungeons & Dragons game, released about the same time as Baldur's Gate and roughly the same game theme as Baldur's Gate.

It's great. A little more action-packed than Baldur's Gate, but very strategic.

Thanks, I'm definitely buying it as soon as possible. A strategic Baldur's Gate sounds heavenly.

There's an Anthology Collection on eBay, brand new and sealed, for $34.99.

It includes:

Baldur’s Gate
Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast
Baldur’s Gate 2
Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale 2
Planescape: Torment
Greyhawk: The Temple of Elemental Evil

Which is a steal. I'm so excited, thanks Waltz. :)

Oh wow. That is like, the best value bundle I've ever seen.

Planescape should have been on my list, that game is also incredible. Many still list is as their favourite RPG ever, for good reason.

Heck, given I've lost some of those discs over the years, I'm tempted to track down the bundle too.
