The other night I was smoking and a bug just flew down my throat.

That's a good point, I've lost track of how of how many bugs I've swallowed whilst on the bike. Sometimes they hit your eye, get squished upon impact, and enter your body that way instead. I've rubbed my eyes after and been horrified to find nothing there. Yum

Also, we've all eaten spiders in our sleep.

Another thing most of you don't know (I try to repress it myself) is the amount of "bug-related material" that used in everyday products. For example, read the back of your ingredients label: If you find any mention of carmine or cochineal, then ground-up bugs were used to make the food more red-colored. The stuff used in hairspray and to make fruits and vegetables shinier in the produce section? It's shellac made from the secretions of a certain kind of insect.

The FDA actually has rules on how many pieces of insects, maggots, bug eggs, mold, fungus, etc that it allows for a certain type and quantity of food. Hint: it's NOT zero. http://www.fda.gov/food/guidancecomplianceregulatoryinformati...

stop eating jellybeans for chrissakes...especially the red ones

Really? You sure? I don't know about you, but I don't walk around in or eat poop and week old carcasses left in the sun .

If it is still there, no. If it is a drink, no. Food where it has been removed, I have no problem with.

The Game.

Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the fried mealworms I had in Yunnan (SW China). Put a little salt and cumin powder on 'em...yumyum.

i ate a bug once. on purpose. it was in my environmental science AP class. we were doing an experiment involving crickets and acetone. the professor said whoever ate a cricket would pass the class no matter what they did the rest of the semester. i am not very smart, and it was an college level class... so i did it. and i did almost nothing for the rest of the semester, and i got a B+.

Why lie? I'm a Nintendo fanboy.

Entomophagy. Insects are surprisingly nutritious and high in protein. Nothing wrong with eating a few considering that if you have ever eaten anything with grain in your life, that grain probably had a negligible percentage of insect fragments in it.

thats the way, you're not stupid(poor bug by the way), but I would have done the same thing, except that would just prove that the teacher's a fraud, and that school can be passed by eating a bug.

@Roopa While I would be more concerned with the fact that I would have seen a tiny pig on my food, sure I'd eat it. But then I love pork (oh and FYI Pigs are quite clean animals)

Axoloth

Both with drinks and food it depends on how disgusting and how big the bug is. If it's just a mosquito for example, I'll simply remove it and finish my meal.

I'll eat ants man... no problem.

So will I. I already have actually, the local ants are quite tasty.

I don't want to eat any kind of worms, but everything else looked good if you ask me.

EDIT: I'll actually be willing to try those worms, when I think about it. I've always been willing to try anything people call food, as long as it doesn't kill me.

Yeah, but what they eat isn't very clean, hence they have a tendency to be ridden with intestinal parasites if not raised in the proper environment. There are some places where I'd definitely eat bugs before I'd eat a pork chop.
