I was drinking a Pepsi outside today and a stupid Gnat landed right in the bottle. I was lucky enough to notice it before taking a big swig. It was floating in there and I was pissed because I just opened the bottle. Took me 15 minutes to decide between scooping out the Gnat and drinking the Pepsi anyway or hurling it into the trash in disgust. As it turned out I went with the first choice. I drank it anyway. What would you have done?

one time I was at a Wendy's restaurant with my dad and he drank an entire large coke without realizing there was a dead fly at the bottom of the cup the whole time. I told him he should complain to the manager and he just shrugged like it wasn't a big deal. He could have sucked it up right through the straw. I nearly blew chunks.

I have a bad story about drinking a fountain drink too! It was about 10 years ago, I was attending a community college and for lunch, I went to a taqueria with my cousin. We ordered our food and we sat down and started eating. As I was reaching for my drink, I noticed that the bubbles looked weird and upon closer inspection, the glass was full of ants! I brought the glass to the counter and asked for another glass because I assumed that it wasn't washed properly opting at the last moment to get a paper cup instead. Instead of getting Coke again, I got Sprite this time, looked inside the cup, no ants, sat back down, took a sip and continued eating my food. A moment later, I looked at my cup and again, it was full of ants! I looked up at the ceiling and, nothing, I was absolutely dumbfounded. I brought the cup back up to the counter and placed it in front of the lady there. Then I walked over to the fountain and sure enough, the nozzles were covered in ants. Everyone who was drinking around the fountain looked into their cups at that point, yea, sucks to be them. I asked if I could get a bottled beverage and they gave it to me, no problems and I finished my meal and went back to school.

I thought that would be the end of that, but for the next 2 years, everytime I ate, I gagged, everytime I put anything in my mouth actually, a toothbrush for example, I gagged. It was a big hassle. I eventually got over the gagging and went back to drinking sodas albeit suspiciously, without any major issues.

I've recently just stopped drinking fountain drinks. I've heard too many horror stories about them from people that service them finding all manners of drowned rodents and cockroaches and E. Coli contamination. Recently, I've also given up sodas as a whole actually, but for the reason that they primarily contain HCFS, but that is more for a health consciousness issue.

Anyways, you should always pay attention to what you're eating, especially if you eat fast food. ...or don't pay attention if you're afraid of what you might find. I'm generally not afraid of bugs, but I don't eat what bugs touch because I don't know where they've been/what they carry. I'll likely throw out any drink or rip off and toss a large chunk of food.

What is the meaning of life? That's so easy, the answer is TETRIS.

That's messed up! I can understand ants flocking to them, but I'm not sure where in most machines a rodent is big enough to die in. At least, all the ones I worked in, you just attached the soda syrup in disposable bags to the machine. Just clean it every night after you close, and there shouldn't be a problem, unless it's leaky. Luckily, I've never had that problem.

I don't generally care about bugs (one of the hassles of eating outside, especially in smaller restaurants in China). As long as it doesn't possibly have rabies or something, I don't have a problem with it being near my food. Just think of it as training for your immune system and/or extra protein. One time a bee flew into my soda when I wasn't looking and I almost drank it. Ended up spitting out soda everywhere, but at least I didn't get stung in my mouth. That sucked. So I guess it bothers me if they can sting too.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

Depends on the bug/food item. Because I'm lazy, I made a chart of all the possible scenarios:

Fly + Solid Food = Eat
Fly + Soft/Non-Solid Food (Yogurt, etc.) = Do Not Eat
Fly + Drink = Drink
Big Beetle + Anything Edible/Drinkable = Do Not Eat

Once a bug touches it, I'm done with it. This is the biggest reason I hate picnics. Besides, flies land on poop, rotting carcasses, and vegetables. I hate all of that stuff and I most certainly don't want to be eating (even microscopic) remnants of that yuckiness because it's stuck to the bug that just landed on my french fries.

Also, some insects actually spit/drool/"vomit"/etc on food when they land on it as part of the first step in their digestive process. Then it's easier for them to start slurping it up. Would you eat something the dude next to you just spit on?

If it's a drink then there's no way I'll drink it. It depends on what kind of food it is I'll probably rip or cut off the part that was touched. But that's only if I just see it land, If I find a bug on it I'll throw it out.

@Magi Ew. I will never eat a bug. Even if it is covered in chocolate.

That story made me laugh. Good thing it didn't sting though - that would've sucked.

Reminded me of summer when you are eating outside, and have a cold pop in hand. Then you look down and a hornet is either circling the drink, or maybe just crawling around the opening. I've thrown those drinks away before because my overactive imagination pictured me drinking hornets and getting stung on the inside of my mouth and throat... But as long as it's a non-stinging insect I usually don't care that much.

I think the Pepsi would kill any germs from the bug. I'd be more worried about drinking the Pepsi itself, lol.

The funniest was one time I was eating at a pizza slice place, and I noticed a fly baked into the cheese. When I took it back and complained, they didn't seem to think it was an issue, and I was like "but I ordered vegetarian pizza!"

I've probably eaten lots of bugs without realising, it doesn't really bother me. The fly thing is definitely gross, but if I don't know about then it aint gone hurt me. Anyway, it's nothing compared to using a public toilet.

LOL It makes me laugh the amount of people who won't eat bugs. You do realise that there is a lot of people in the world for whom bugs are an integral part of their diet, don't you? Their packed with protein and some I have tasted have been quite tasty (mmmm fried mealworms). I'd love to see what you lot would do if your plastic food supply was cut off, you'd be fighting over the last ant I tells ya. I do agree that flys that vomit on your food are pretty gross but anything else, nah ,get it down ya
