Title says all. Just asking your personal opinion out of curiousity. Seeing all these threads about overrated games over the years has made me wonder what being overrated means to you guys.
When they all you hear about over and over and over how a game is revolutionary and it isnt. When everyone acts like its the greatest game to come out and not do anything new or different from other games i.e. Halo.

The word "overrated" is overrated.
I agree and That's how I usually see it. I've tried to avoid using words like "overrated" now, since I think it just sounds like I'm saying "I didn't like this game as much as other people, therefore their opinions are wrong".(or like what Feenie just said) I'm sure a lot of other people don't see it that way, that's just how I feel.
It's an individual or a group's opinion that a game is not as great as every one else or other people think it is, simply. I tend to think some thing's overrated when some thing like a bunch of Sephiroth fan boys go around posting on the internet how he's awesome and Final Fantasy VII is the best RPG ever. That's annoying.

Halo was revolutionary in a way. There are so many FPS now, thanks to Halo.

That's something I can understand, yet at the same time, I have to wonder why people, using the same reasonings you did, whould list a game like Gears of War, Uncharted, etc. - Games that really did do something fairly unique for its genre. But then I have to ask, why do people also apply that reasoning to games that most people recognizes as "More of the same, just done very well", like Modern Warfare and Halo - games that even people who really enjoy it don't really see it as a revolutionary just a game that does a lot of things they like? And is doing nothing new necessarily a bad thing? I suppose only if something new is what you're looking for, but believe it or not, most people aren't. Plus, to some people, "more of the same" is new to people who never experienced before. Just some food for thought.
