Sounds like we are splitting hairs now. Fact is, any country lucky enough to qualify for The World Cup, would feel honoured to do so and immensely excited, America however, do not.
we are honored its just that people don't have an open mind and most local stations only do football, basketball, and baseball coverage. Also blame the MLS and college soccer for not advertising more. (i wish my high school had a soccer team so i could get a scholarship for playing.
WAT!

@Adam: I wish the USA weren't in England's group tbh, I will feel terrible if we knock you out. Here's hoping we finish 1st and 2nd and get safely into the knockout stages without hampering each other.
I really do hope this is the World Cup that grabs America's attention. But I've thought that many times.
Shingi, that's not fair either. Those organizations have tried to advertise themselves (they're businesses, of course they have), but attempts have been mostly unsuccessful, and you can only push advertising more if you make the money to fund it, which isn't happening. MLS had a big push when it first came out, but I think extreme sports were a big craze at the time and soccer just couldn't pop out on top.
Women's soccer is big here (as Trin noted), at least as far as participation goes. It's a popular sport for women to play, but no women's sport gets the media attention it deserves except tennis. Sorry Mia, you did your best.
If history is any indicator, The US should get out of the group phase this year. They did so last time the Cup wasn't held in Europe. For some reason the US always seems to do poorly in Europe, but play well every where else.
Remeber, they did make the Quarter-finals in Korea and played well in their loss to Germany.
we do have soccer moms, but i know i don't want to be one of 'em, stuck ferrying kids around in a minivan all the time and constantly busy with no time for myself anymore D:

The Soccer World Cup? No thanks. I don't mind playing soccer with some buds (but will always, always prefer American Football) but it bores me to tears watching it. I prefer high scoring games, which is part of the reason I'm not such a fan of hockey, either.
As for why hasn't soccer made better progress into North America, who knows? Why hasn't England dropped cricket and picked up baseball? Why hasn't American Football spread further? Why is curling an olympic sport?
Edit: Go Bears! (or least stop having such a terrible season)
I never said I hated it, just said it was boring. What I meant by worst was most boring. Wait a minute, I smell a stupid and pointless argument boiling up.
