There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
Here's my choices. I hope we have another one of these, because there's so much music I want to nominate. VVVVVV - Pushing Onwards [youtube:dclghhnW4oU]
VVVVVV - Passion for Exploring [youtube:NUJ7qjSvGgA]
Cave Story - On to Grasstown [youtube:VlmOhXoKmoQ]
Cave Story - Sand Zone Theme [youtube:Fev-BBnLlaA]
VVVVVV and Cave Story have such awesome music...
I would've nominated Still Alive from Portal instead of one of these had it not been nominated already. That's probably one of the best songs ever put in a video game. It was a triumph. I made a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.
I'm pretty okay.

Wait, quotes should be meaningful? Ugh, fine.

All right. I nominate: The Final Boss from Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story [youtube:Ckxy-i7Dc5U] The Serenade of Water from Ocarina of Time [youtube:SKfHwznHjd0] Storm Eagle's stage from Megaman X (someone already took the intro stage) [youtube:sayGb0MMS_k] The Nocturne of Shadow from Ocarina of Time [youtube:I5HjTeclxg0]
@Destroyer360 You sir, have excellent taste in gaming music. Every song you mentioned is among my favorites. If I hadn't been trying to improve Sam & Max's chances of success I would've went with Epiphany from BIT.TRIP FLUX (the song literally gives me chills), Moonsong from Cave Story (Outer Wall is the defining moment of the game for me), Want You Gone from Portal 2 (the lyrics aren't as good as Still Alive but someone already nominated that and I like WYG's sound better anyway), and something from VVVVVV (love them all but Pressure Cooker and Popular Potpourri are particular standouts for me) Frustration from BIT.TRIP FATE (you guys have VVVVVV covered).
Hmm...maybe I'll edit my nominations now. Sorry, Sam & Max!

Don Ted E. Bear Waltz - Sam & Max Save the World [youtube:iGD_WURy90Q]
@MechaPhoenix Fighting of the spirits is awesome but there are better Tales songs.
No. No, there is not.

My God... I <3 video game music. Have well over 10,000 vgm tracks on my iPod. One of the hardest choices I've had to make in something like this. I'm sure I'll question and want to change it later, LOL.
Prelude to the Void (Final Fantasy V) [youtube:xv_-Hk3BbAs] Liberi Fatali (Final Fantasy VIII) [youtube:olxIVcfY0hA] Via Purifico (Final Fantasy X) [youtube:TA5PpkNdKbM] Kimi ga Iru Kara (Final Fantasy XIII, Japanese version ending theme) [youtube:BQWOreArKbs]

@Ryno You are in the right place! I've seen some classics on here from the NES and SNES days (and one of mine is from Final Fantasy V, originating on the Super Famicom of course). There were others from both systems I just almost put up. One was "Area 2" from Bionic Commando, and I was glad to see that someone picked another I started to use, "Simon's Theme".
Was interested to see it's also called "Dance of the Holy Man". Noticed that last night when I was gathering my pics at YouTube. "Prelude to the Void" is also called "Prelude of the Empty Skies". One other I was going to use from Final Fantasy IV is called "The Land of Summons", "The Feymarch" and "Illusionary World". It's not that complicated for John Williams! I think "The Imperial March" has always been just that, LOL
Anyway, great pics! Have seen so many great scores here (and a lot I've never heard that I need to try)!

Glad to see there are others around that enjoy the classics as well! I thought there would be more NES and SNES games nominated but oh well, may be a good excuse to start a Best of VGM Retro Edition thread in the Retro forum sometime. But yeah, I agree it is interesting to find out what video game songs are named (and like you pointed out they could have numerous). Also, I dont play many RPG's (don't have the time) so this is a good way to hear some really good tunes I would never had heard otherwise.
To blessed to be stressed.
80's music makes me feel fabulous.
