@ k8sMum Wow, I never expected the mother of a 19 year old would hang out on some videogame website. I'm sorry for your loss though.
i have played games since pong, Link79. i have always loved games/gaming. ours was the house where the neighborhood kids came to play the latest games, consoles. good times.
@kainard: ' Lost a loved one and want them back? I will undergo plastic surgery to look like them and even legally change my name to their name.'
whilst i find the large part of your post humorous, this part is in bad taste, imho. i know you didn't mean it that way, but as the mom of a dead 19 yr old, it is. sorry if i am being too sensitive.
i am sorry for your loss, but i do feel you're being too sensitive. it was just a joke, his entire post was a straight-up exaggeration.
i suppose the phrase 'too sensitive' depends on the path one has walked. i think his joke is funny without this part. you haven't dealt with loss on this scale so you don't agree. we are both entitled to our opinion.
if we can get back to the topic at hand now, there's nothing wrong with working at Wal-Mart straight out of college — it can take a while to find a job in your chosen field once you get out, if you ever find one at all. if i had a dime for all the people i knew who got degrees and then bounced around jobs doing completely different stuff... i'd have a pretty big pocketful of dimes, lol dimes are small coins lol

Seems like everywhere I go looking for a job I get turned down. Plus it's all done on the internet now. You ask for an application and they just tell you go do it on the computer. What if I'd rather talk to a real person and actually show some effort? It's not the same as typing up a bunch of credentials on a computer. How am I ever supposed to be considered for a job when there's thousands of more qualified people applying online? Sometimes I get so frustrated with it.
Submit the appliaction over the Internet.
Call the company and ask to speak with who is looking after the applications for that job to check that they got it ok. Say "let me know if you need anything more."
Show some real initiative. That's how you'll get the job.
@ WaltzElf I always try to check back with different places. I've even had a few interviews but when I call back they say sorry the position was filled. Most places I've worked involved fast food and I'm sick of that. The pay is lousy and they treat you like scum. A bunch of fast food Jobs probably wouldn't look too good on a resume for an online application. I don't have a high school Diploma Either so that makes my chances of landing a good Job even less. At this point I'd take anything.

what?
also, gotta get that GED if you don't have a diploma, and don't be afraid to go for stop-gap fast-food jobs if you need the cash — you can always tailor your resume later on to suit whatever job(s) you're applying for.
the thing that got me the worst when i was out of work a few years ago was all the stupid personality tests they had you fill out. just the same questions over and over and over, every single time you apply for something... ugh, it just wears on you after a while

In which case it's time to start building your resume on your own back. Do volunteer work, get some achievements in some way. Educate yourself on something.
Work experience isn't necessarily what organisations are looking for, especially for entry level jobs. What they're looking for is someone who does stuff. I got my first job in journalism with no professional writing experience (or a degree in that), but doing some stuff with community papers and websites helped.
And of course, education helps as well. Doesn't even have to be in something related to the work you want to do. A degree helps, not because it proves you're qualified for something (it doesn't), but it does prove that you have the ability and commitment to get a degree.
Cartoon refrence. Look up Space Ghost Coast 2 Coast. Space ghost, the mIn character is barely animated.
i've seen the show once or twice, but i still don't get how what you said has anything to do with what i said? unless he made comments like 'if i had a dime for...' a lot?
i do have a job, though — two, in fact (three if you count moderating the forums, lol).

To be honest Link79 it a bunch of fast food jobs on an app isnt the thing killing you its the fact that you dont have a high school diploma or GED. A bunch of jobs looks better on an app than no jobs or big gaps of unemployment. If you arent getting any jobs other than fastfood its more than likely the lack of a diploma/GED. You can look into getting your GED from various places online and offline. Local into your local community college if there is one nearby or if you are old enough look into the local high schools. I am sure once you get that diploma/GED the you will be able to find a job alot easier.

ive applied last year to more then 32 jobs within a 3 or so day span i only gotten maybe a phone interview or so cant remeber this is mostly places like zellers or wal-mart or tim hortons which i worked there when i was 16 and so forth i want a job i can keep for a long time because i rather make my own money then stay on odsp and im not a fan of using the phone due to hearing
this is probability for me not getting hired, discrimination? i dont really think so but people hiring can be a @$$ about it though sigh......... so im literally out of options and im wanting to go back to school, an adult version of a highschool in which u have to pay for in which i need a few more certain credits to apply for college or so forth
im certainly not reapplying to the same 32 jobs again because if none of them wouldnt hire me in the first place why would i expect them too a second time know what i mean?
Guys, I may have a big break! Someone I know who is in the same field as me is going back to a job at a company that is currently hiring college grad entry level positions. She says she can almost guarantee me a job. I don't want to get my hopes up too high, as I haven't even been interviewed yet, but it just goes to show, it's all about who you know.

Yeah, I need a job. Have needed one for months now, and my unemployment benefits are about to run out. Live in Oklahoma where SUPPOSEDLY the unemployment rate is lower (low enough that the next tier of unemployment won't be available again till October... IF the rate rises). Yet, I can't even get interviewed for work, despite no criminal record and having worked a month shy of six years at my last job (I was Employee of the Month once, recognition/certificates up the wazoo, etc. in a big company). All that work got me was three interviews total in the last year.
I think it has to do with the face a back injury had to do with me losing that last job. But, employers are unafraid and unashamed to discriminate against anyone in right-to-work Oklahoma where "Unions" is a dirty word (keep telling myself I'm going to move) that would get you fired for uttering. Applied to about every franchise I can think of online (and every time you have to, basically, have a "first interview" by way of "pre-employment screening/questionnaire", which is another rant). Applied to little places at local shopping centers and so forth. Nothing. Nada. Zilch.
Only place that has interviewed me is Wal-Mart. A place where apparently you have to be a bold-faced liar to be in management. Each time, the interviewer tells me they'll call me when they come to a decision one way or another, or for another interview. That call NEVER comes. So, prepare for BS if you try to get work there. And I have no idea how any Wal-Mart operates day-to-day, as disorganized and flaky as management I see at each one is. The path to a job at Nintendo of America begins at your local Wal-Mart.
Right now, I'm basically the individual Blade described who, um, REALLY loves their mother and is always trying to ice skate uphill. Starting to feel like employers look at me as the black plague of unholy death... And I always thought I was a fairly nice guy!
