Although a definitive answer would of course require further measurements, published species-wide averages of wing length and body mass, initial Strouhal estimates based on those averages and cross-species comparisons, the Lund wind tunnel study of birds flying at a range of speeds, and revised Strouhal numbers based on that study all lead me to estimate that the average cruising airspeed velocity of an unladen European Swallow is roughly 11 meters per second, or 24 miles an hour.

Question #253: If you were on American Idol (or any other singing-related TV show), do you think you would win or had a chance at winning?

I am not deluded about my wonderful singing voice. My mother has often told me I have the voice of an angel, and so I would easily win this competition. I am prepared to sell everything I own to buy a ticket to an audition and place my entire future on the notion.

I imagine most sane people would batter themselves to death with the microphone the moment they came to realization they where bizzarely on such a damn awful show all of a sudden, or else live with the madness that would drive you to commit such an act in the first place.
