Well, if you never saw ECW last night (like I did), Vince McMahon announced that ECW will be ending, citing low ratings and a downturn in popularity. It will be replaced by a show called WWE: NXT (Next Generation) that will feature talent from the FCW (Florida Championship Wrestling) developmental territory. It will take the place of ECW's timeslot on SyFy, effective in three weeks time.
I will not watch the remaining episodes of ECW. I will give the replacement a shot if they use the people who are really in FCW and not just say the people on ECW are now in FCW. I used to watch ECW when it was not owned by Vince.
I'm glad to see them end this so called "ECW". It was a bad idea from the get-go. I'm hoping Christian is the last one to hold the belt and not someone whos going to be forgotten in no time (see: Ezekial Jackson).
ECW did not do well because well... it failed to be extreme like everyone expected. If it would have done the original ECW style justice I think it would have done much better with fans. This ECW just felt like another Raw or Smackdown to me most of the time and I'm sure most other fans agree. The true appeal of ECW being reborn was just that, the greatness we all remember being revived so we can see those extreme matches again but those kinds of matches rarely appeared on the show killing it's ratings and the hopes we all had for it. It is kind of a shame to see it go without reaching the potential it could have but this was inevitable. Perhaps this will be a lesson to the WWE. Fans wants more extreme stuff more often... hopefully one day we will get what we wished for.

For bloody sakes, bring back austin and the rock. I know they wont but damn....
I'm gonna say it now. Attitude era ruled. WWE just sucks now.

I just want them to entertain me which they haven't done in a long time. I miss the feel of the way RAW was during the attitude era, gritty and "RAW". Now it's watered down advertising for wweshop.com and clothing line.
Christian and Regal are the only things that are currently good on ECW, I'll watch it purely for those two. And I'll check out FCW just to see how it goes
ECW has been dead for years... Vince buried Paul Heyman's creation. Out of spite, incompetence, mismanagement..... who knows? But the ECW that WWE has presented, with maybe the exception of the first One Night Stand PPV, has little in common with Exteme Championship Wrestling.
With the controversy surrounding the business due to the high number of wrestlers who have died before 50, of which a good percentage of were ECW alumni, it's likely we will never see a promotion as EXTREME as ECW reach a national stage again.
"Put. That. Coffee. Down. Coffee's for closers only."
Professional sports (if you can group wrestling in there) are pretty much a joke anyway. UFC was fun for a while but you get so sick of the corporate polished turd BS. It's all about image and branding. Tapout, Affliction, Xyience, and all that other garbage. I can't believe how many people buy that stuff.
I also don't like pro sports because they are basically paying idiots (not all but most have had only one focus their whole lives making a very unbalanced person) millions of dollars which they then spend investing in resorts and development projects. They line their pockets and their investors pockets with money and the community suffers. I support amateur sports 100% and think it's very important especially for kids but pro sports are a huge money grab taking advantage of our natural competitive nature.
This is probably falling on deaf ears and I'm and idiot for posting this in a wrestling topic.
The moment that I saw that Vince's ECW was really nothing more then WWECW I tuned out of wrestling all together. I got tired of RAW Smackdown, & ECW being nothing more then giant advertisements for their ppvs with maybe 2 mins of actual wrestling.
I remember hearing a shoot interview with RVD after he left WWECW & he said in that interview how he pushed for Vince to bring back ECW, about how much the fans would love it, then they did one night stand & RVD was right. Then came the weekly show that Vince advertised as ECW. RVD tried to get Vince to make the show what it should have been & Vince told Rob that as far as he was aware, the fans that watched Once Night Stand where the only people that even remembered the old ECW. Rob then asked why do the fans always chant ECW when something extreme happens, & Vince's answer was "because I trained them to do that."
At that moment I said to hell with WWE. Too bad TNA is crap too.
Flandre Scarlet, she's cute, she's colorful, she can blow up entire cities, she's also a vampire. Start running sparklepants.
ECW hasn't ever been ECW under Vince. That being said, i've enjoyed it more over the past year, since it'd have actual wrestling matches and the "lesser" and newer guys have a chance to get out there. As a huge Regal fan going back to his early WCW days, i've enjoyed ECW a lot more lately; i hope he has a prominent spot on the new show (b/c you know they'll do nothing with him on Raw/Smackdown).
Ultimately, i expect the new show will, in a few short weeks, look almost exactly like the current ECW show. And i'll watch it; at least until/unless ABC schedules Lost or V for 10pm.
Meanwhile, at least i have TNA -- i've always been a fan of Bischoff (despite his idiotic views on Flair and the Horsemen back in WCW), so i love seeing him in his current role.
@Jebby: I guess i understand that viewpoint, but that's pretty much how i feel about college sports, where a SCHOOL places focus on what is ultimately pointless competition instead of, oh, i don't know, EDUCATION? By the way, i think much of what you said in your second paragraph can be applied to quite a number of professions, particularly the Hollywood movie industry and actors/actresses.
ECW in the 90's was pretty cool. I did not like the WWE version to be honest with you . I think Vince is making the right move. I saw that Tommy Dreamer was the last of the original ECW roster to retire, so I think its the perfect time to finally move on.

this. it's about time they finally quit riding that One Night Stand PPV and just let the brand die if they're not gonna really revive it. :/

Well, it has done its good by revamping and building Superstars like CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, John Morrison and the Miz.
And well, ECW literally had no meaning after WWE went TV-PG, because no way you go gonna extreme when they're kiddies around waiting for Cena (back on RAW) or whoever they like.
@Sylv: yeah, the show did give those guys a place to build up to Superstar status, but it was never the same ECW of yore they continually tried to pawn it off as. they could easily have made this move years ago is what i'm saying.

Yeah, the old ECW was hardcore to the point where censors couldn't contain it.
WWE closing up ECW is the first time it has had anything in common with the original ECW since it started.
