Topic: Do you mostly preorder games online at amazon.com now or still at game stores like Gamestop?

Amazon.com has officially replaced Gamestop and even other online sites like Familyvideo.com as my game preorder choice since it offers free and fast shipping, no sales tax, a few dollars less than MSRP, and incentives like $10 preorder credits on selected games. My friends still preorder games at Gamestop and the only advantage of that is getting the game on day one.

purely amazon but now that I'm abroad I'm planning to buy games at either Gamestop, Nintendo World Store or Toys R US or .. Target, once I visit...

Btw, unfortunately in New York it does have sales Tax from Amazon too except for some cases and except surprisingly (I only found out about it when I was practically leaving) for nintendo points cards.

I do all my online preordering exclusively from Amazon, its great that they often give you an extra $10 or in some cases $20 credit for future purchases. I think currently everything I've currently preordered has that extra credit. Mario Galaxy had $20, MGS Peacewalker has $10, SSFIV retroactively has $10 each(I bought both), Red Dead has $10, Halo Reach has $20. It adds up quick, no tax(where I'm from) and free shipping option saves me a ton too. They also honor the lowest price for the preorder listed, I remember getting GoWIII Ultimate at $90 plus they gave me another couple cents off, lol.

Preordering seems to be a waste of money for the most part. Then of course there's always the topics that whine about GameStop not having the game when you're supposed to get it....

sykotek

@Digiki: It doesn't feel like a waste of money to me when I get $10 or $20 back constantly towards future purchases for preordering on Amazon. As for GS... I see your point there.

@Roopa132: Actually, they don't have the same preorder bonuses as GS. Most of the time, they're better. Case in point. I ordered SSFIV for PS3 & 360 because it comes with an exclusive costume pack(its available at Best Buy online too, but it costs more), GS has...covers for your thumbs... for when you're thumb wrestling featuring Street Fighter characters.

I preorder with both once in a great while. I usually wait until the game has been out a week or two unless I am 100% sure I want it. Good thing about Gamestop is they give you a call and let you know its at the store to be picked up by calling you. Amazon is good to because they include tracking and things are always well packed. I have no preference, just depends on my mood really.

I hope I'm not giving the wrong impression with my posts, I preorder with GS, a lot, probably 2-3 times more than Amazon. Its just that Amazon's deals are better when they have them because they have deals and I definitely take advantage of them when they're available. Most games I'm interested in don't come into GS day one anyways and the games that do, don't need preordering, I do just because the staff at my local store doesn't wanna get in trouble. I'm just sharing my experiences, not trying to convince others to do the same.

I haven't bought a game on release date since the PS2 days, so I don't really pre-order anything these days. But I pretty much refuse to step foot into a GameStop unless I just have to, so I would pre-order from Amazon if I ever did.

I don't pre-order at either, I usually pre-order at Best-buy or Target, I get the games day one.

I don't preorder games much either. Outside of the US it's pretty rare to get preorder bonuses anyway.

When I was living in the UK I ordered most everything (music CDs, DVDs, games) from Amazon since it was always cheaper than in stores and shipping was free. Now I buy most of my games from brick-and-mortar stores, except for rare or hard-to-find titles.

I still pre-order from GAME because they have a customer rewards program and their online prices are about the same as Amazon, though there are exceptions like Red Steel 2 from time-to-time.

Amazon doesn't seem to have any kind of rewards program in the UK and worse (to me) they often use 3rd parties rather than post stuff themselves (especially with games and DVDs) and they take longer to post than GAME does (2nd class post usually versus 1st class for GAME - difference between getting the game at or before street date versus a couple of days later).

Amazon have been the most reliable for me. So amazon, yes.

And if I do preorder somewhere else, they better have a really good pre-order bonus.

I've only pre-ordered one game and it was from Gamestop. I wanted the MPT t-shirt. I rarely buy games new, but when I do, I usually get them on Amazon when they've been out for a while. Otherwise I buy them used at Game Stop or Play N Trade.
