It's ashes time, even though England will keep winning them as long as we're stuck with old man Ponting as captain.

But discuss all things cricket in this thread! Much more popular sport than many would suspect!

The sad thing is, it's only when Zimbarbwe start beating us that they'll do the right thing and get rid of Ponting

Any sport that takes more than a day to finish a single game needs seriously restructuring.

They did :-/ Twenty20 cricket.

Having three forms of the game is great - there's Twenty20 for the casual "enjoy an evening at the cricket with big hitting and lots of action" evening, there's the 50 over ODI for the "day at the cricket" experience, and then there's test matches for the hardcore cricket fans.

Personally I love getting a book/ DS game, a beer, and sitting down in front of the TV for 5 days of cricket in the background.

Haha, it was meant entirely tongue-in-cheek. I have no particular like or dislike of the sport, I just like making jokey comments on sports threads - I don't honestly believe the sport needs restructuring because I personally find it a bit dull

Cricket has always been baffling to me. Must be something in the water over there.

For the majority of my life, The Aussies have pwnd England in The Ashes. I am REALLY enjoying the current series (apart from the insane amount of lost sleep). Cannot wait for the next test! COME ON ENGLAND!!!

Though I'm not a massive fan of the 5 day tests (who has that much free time??) I do enjoy watching the final day of a Five dayer and like watching the end of an exciting one dayer. Twenty20 I think is great and is definetly good for the game and adds some much needed glamour for the masses, though I can see why some purists don't like it!

I don't understand why cricket hasn't caught on at least a little in the States.

It's almost the same sport as baseball - especially the new Twenty20 format.

Anyway, it doesn't look like they'll drop Ponting. Sigh. Hopefully after we lose the series. Australian cricket has fallen a long way since the Steve Waugh heyday.
