Yea, I saw the Hatsworth one back in the day, too, but not the Boom Blocks. Also, this thread was in reference to the forum ads, not that it matters.

Of course, Hatsworth was indeed worldwide. Silly me. Funnily enough that actually led to us doing the interview with Kyle Gray!

The forum ads are the same as the ones throughout the site, it's only the main channel homepages that get the Boom Blox treatment at the moment.

Honestly I didn't mind the Hatsworth one a single bit. It was the first I'd heard of it, and since I saw the ad every day on the site, I did research on the game, fell in love, eventually bought it, and found my favorite DS game yet.

So the lesson here is: when NL picks an ad, it's worth having. When the adserver picks an ad...well...God knows.

True dat. The adservers were advertising Homebreware and Unlimited Wii Downloads on Wiibrew and Hackmii, it was especially funny because they're being advertised on pages about piracy hurting the industry and Homebreware being a scam. Fail much.

Just like to add that there is a tasty-looking Velveta ad running on my end right now, and it's making me really want some Shells n' Cheese.

I saw the Henry Hatsworth ad. And I really hate the pizza ad.

We've seen some complaints about the Ubisoft Advertisement Banner that's affixed to the top of pages on the site. We'd like to get a bit of feedback on how people feel about this form of advertising and how it reacts to your browser. Any feedback is appreciated.

It doesn't quite move right when I scroll, and it gets in the way when I try to change tabs (i.e. if I instinctively move my cursor straight toward the tab instead of circumnavigating the ad, it will become emboldened and start to grow in size, blocking my screen even more).

If it pays the bills, do what you need to do. It doesn't bother me that much, but I definitely prefer normal ads as a user

It's a bit obtrusive and even I've run into trouble trying to add things to the site. We'll see what kind of feedback we get and go from there.

The problem is that it adjusts its vertical positioning, so that it can follow you down the page, using javascript! Why not just use position: fixed with the appropriate cross-browser adjustments? Then the div will stay at the very top nicely as you scroll, without annoying floating up and down to reach your position.

As of lateley there are WAY TOO many adds. The annoying ones that move mostly. I used to come here because the add were minimal. Its just getting out of control now.

Yeah, as much as I like those games that its advertising, I really hate that Ubisoft ad! Whenever I use my Wii or PS3 web browser I just can't escape the darn thing; it just keeps getting in the way and I can't disable it! Ugh, its so obnoxious! I don't always get to use a computer so for now I just have to put up with it.

The Adblock Plus and NoScript combo for Firefox works ever so nicely. While I allow NL to run its scripts any of the ad service sites are completely out of the picture.

I'm not too bothered about the Ubisoft ads, because I like to play a game to see if it can catch up with me when I spin my roller scrolly thing on my mouse.
When I'm changing tabs on the 'site though to things such as "Forums", the videos sometimes appear and get in the way.

Agreed. I use my PS3 to access this site fairly often, and that ad has been a HUGE hassle the past few days.

My Backloggery Updated sporadically. Got my important online ID's on there, anyway. :P

I'd just like to add that my miniscule contribution to your ad-revenue is to always, when I order a pizza -- which is a little less than once a week -- open this site and click on the Domino's ad in order reach the online order screens. That counts as a click! It should count as more, since I'm following through to complete a purchase, but chances are that they only track whether or not someone clicked on the ad in order to reach their site, not the subsequent actions taken there. Oh well.

You may ask, what if the Domino's ad isn't running when I need it? Well, it always is. I guess they target that one at the weekends in the evening, as it has always been there when I'm about to order.

Is there a talking ad now? This afternoon on four different occasions I tried to open up all the newest posts in multiple tabs like I always do, when one or two tabs would freeze while loading and someone talking about bleach or toilet cleaner or other stuff would suddenly be in my computer, and the whole browser would freeze until I closed that particular tab, which takes quite awhile.

It probably doesn't cause problems for most. I just have a crappy computer. But I am the most important forum user, so if there's any way it could be set not to talk automatically, that would be lovely. I thought most ads had to be hovered over before they'd start talking.

Actually, I will probably just switch back to Firefox soon and use an ad blocker, as much as I love Chrome. Problems like this are uncommon but always a huge a pain when they do crop up.

The ads have been getting worse of late... it might be necessary to reevaluate and switch to a more professional ad-service if this site doesn't want to start losing users.

I had one talking ad today, and more than five times I had one of those with a fake virus scan redirect -- this shouldn't be a site where we need to use our blocking programs, and as you (moderaters, etc) know, if we all switch to Ad Block for this site, you won't be registering our traffic on your ad services at all, since the browser won't even make the appropriate requests in most cases.

I must be missing something as the ads don't do anything or sound anything for me. The Ubisoft bar has been the only one that's even moved or anything. Maybe my Safari browser isn't compatible with them or something. They just sit there for me.
