I'd just like to add that my miniscule contribution to your ad-revenue is to always, when I order a pizza -- which is a little less than once a week -- open this site and click on the Domino's ad in order reach the online order screens. That counts as a click! It should count as more, since I'm following through to complete a purchase, but chances are that they only track whether or not someone clicked on the ad in order to reach their site, not the subsequent actions taken there. Oh well.

You may ask, what if the Domino's ad isn't running when I need it? Well, it always is. I guess they target that one at the weekends in the evening, as it has always been there when I'm about to order.

Is there a talking ad now? This afternoon on four different occasions I tried to open up all the newest posts in multiple tabs like I always do, when one or two tabs would freeze while loading and someone talking about bleach or toilet cleaner or other stuff would suddenly be in my computer, and the whole browser would freeze until I closed that particular tab, which takes quite awhile.

It probably doesn't cause problems for most. I just have a crappy computer. But I am the most important forum user, so if there's any way it could be set not to talk automatically, that would be lovely. I thought most ads had to be hovered over before they'd start talking.

Actually, I will probably just switch back to Firefox soon and use an ad blocker, as much as I love Chrome. Problems like this are uncommon but always a huge a pain when they do crop up.

Come on, friends,

The ads have been getting worse of late... it might be necessary to reevaluate and switch to a more professional ad-service if this site doesn't want to start losing users.

I had one talking ad today, and more than five times I had one of those with a fake virus scan redirect -- this shouldn't be a site where we need to use our blocking programs, and as you (moderaters, etc) know, if we all switch to Ad Block for this site, you won't be registering our traffic on your ad services at all, since the browser won't even make the appropriate requests in most cases.

I must be missing something as the ads don't do anything or sound anything for me. The Ubisoft bar has been the only one that's even moved or anything. Maybe my Safari browser isn't compatible with them or something. They just sit there for me.

I'm on Safari -- that's the strange thing! And I wondered for a moment if it anything to do with particular machine, but I got it at work as well (the ad that redirects automatically to a fake virus scan). So, 2 macs running Safari now. I can certainly switch back to Firefox for this site, since I always have both browsers open, but Firefox is for those for which I want to block ads, scripting, etc -- usually just sites where I'd like to hunt down a torrent without seeing all the ridiculous ads.

EDIT: I'd also like to add, on a lighter note, that the ad in question is hilariously off-target for a Mac user -- the fake scan it redirects you to has a simulated explorer window showing My Computer, and a fake progress bar, none of which is very convincing on OS X :p

Ok seriously, how much are EA paying you guys for these ads? First Hatsworth, then BBBP, now MySims Racing.

We've got another annoying sound-ad on our hands again. sigh

I've taken a screenshot of the offending ad: here

It's makes an old fashioned windows-ding sound, over and over again as long as you're still on the page. I don't see why the ad services you use can't get their act together.

@warioswoods, Thanks for the screenshot, I've passed that on to our ad supplier in the US, we've told them plenty of times we don't want stupid noisy adverts :( sorry about that.

Because we're in the UK we don't actually see what ads your getting in the US, so please do continue to tell us when there are annoying ones - we don't want them either!

@Terranigma, the reskins like the EA ones are by far the best earners for us, they're less annoying than banners aswell! Hope you like the Conduit one we have running at the moment (UK only).

Yeah the skin type adverts are much better as they are less obtrusive but they are probably better as well because as you read the reviews/news etc it's subliminally making your brain think MUST BUY THE CONDUIT, MUST BUY THE CONDUIT!! instead of THIS NOKIA ADVERTS IN MAY WAY AND REALLY ANNOYING ME, I WILL NEVER BUY A NOKIA. :-) Plus they make the sight look really cool and professional (not that it didn't look good before mind). More of this type please!!

Speaking of "skin," the Evony ad with those sloppy breasts - I think there's a chick attached to them - is a bit overdone. Play Now! my Lord, Rule Your World. Here, start with my tits.

HORRIBLE AD ALERT

I just attempted to access the Wii forum by clicking the "Wii" link on the general forum page, and it took me to a full-page ad. Not a popup, not one of those things that shows up and you need to close it out by finding the X, it was a whole other page. The ad was called The Love Calculator, and it was a green background with two animated people (male and female) spitting hearts out of their ears.

It's only happened once, but it's really annoying, and exactly the sort of thing that would make a newcomer to this site think it's way more ad-heavy than it really is. The Wii page didn't even load! I had to back out and try it again.

Just a heads up. We might want to add this to the blacklist.
