I'm on Safari -- that's the strange thing! And I wondered for a moment if it anything to do with particular machine, but I got it at work as well (the ad that redirects automatically to a fake virus scan). So, 2 macs running Safari now. I can certainly switch back to Firefox for this site, since I always have both browsers open, but Firefox is for those for which I want to block ads, scripting, etc -- usually just sites where I'd like to hunt down a torrent without seeing all the ridiculous ads.
EDIT: I'd also like to add, on a lighter note, that the ad in question is hilariously off-target for a Mac user -- the fake scan it redirects you to has a simulated explorer window showing My Computer, and a fake progress bar, none of which is very convincing on OS X

lol, i love getting those. they're not very convincing under Linux either.

[16:43] James: I should learn these site rules more clearly
[16:44] LztheBlehBird: James doesn't know the rules? For shame!!!
I must be missing something as the ads don't do anything or sound anything for me. The Ubisoft bar has been the only one that's even moved or anything. Maybe my Safari browser isn't compatible with them or something. They just sit there for me.
The My Sims Racing design your own car ad is the biggest advertisement not to buy a game i have seen, seriously whats with the green diamond on the front of the car. Laughable.
It's makes an old fashioned windows-ding sound, over and over again as long as you're still on the page. I don't see why the ad services you use can't get their act together.
Twitter is a good place to throw your nonsense. Wii FC: 8378 9716 1696 8633 || "How can mushrooms give you extra life? Get the green ones." -
@warioswoods, Thanks for the screenshot, I've passed that on to our ad supplier in the US, we've told them plenty of times we don't want stupid noisy adverts sorry about that.
Because we're in the UK we don't actually see what ads your getting in the US, so please do continue to tell us when there are annoying ones - we don't want them either!
@Terranigma, the reskins like the EA ones are by far the best earners for us, they're less annoying than banners aswell! Hope you like the Conduit one we have running at the moment (UK only).
Yeah the skin type adverts are much better as they are less obtrusive but they are probably better as well because as you read the reviews/news etc it's subliminally making your brain think MUST BUY THE CONDUIT, MUST BUY THE CONDUIT!! instead of THIS NOKIA ADVERTS IN MAY WAY AND REALLY ANNOYING ME, I WILL NEVER BUY A NOKIA. Plus they make the sight look really cool and professional (not that it didn't look good before mind). More of this type please!!
Speaking of "skin," the Evony ad with those sloppy breasts - I think there's a chick attached to them - is a bit overdone. Play Now! my Lord, Rule Your World. Here, start with my tits.
I just attempted to access the Wii forum by clicking the "Wii" link on the general forum page, and it took me to a full-page ad. Not a popup, not one of those things that shows up and you need to close it out by finding the X, it was a whole other page. The ad was called The Love Calculator, and it was a green background with two animated people (male and female) spitting hearts out of their ears.
It's only happened once, but it's really annoying, and exactly the sort of thing that would make a newcomer to this site think it's way more ad-heavy than it really is. The Wii page didn't even load! I had to back out and try it again.
Just a heads up. We might want to add this to the blacklist.
Ugh, why do I keep getting these disgusting stomach fat ads? They went away for maybe a month, but now they're back and grosser than ever. The "Mom's Diet" one is the worst. I am seriously going to have to switch to Firefox so I can use Adblock because of this board. Blech.
I mean, no offense to anyone with weight problems, but it's the weigh the ads are designed. Just a rotund protrusion of flesh with no owner. The impersonalness is disgusting. Admittedly, I would care a bit less if it were a more appealing physique, but it would still not be something I'd want to see while browsing a gaming forum, some disturbingly detached abdomen floating at the top of my browser. I'm thin, but I wouldn't want to see my belly up there either. Eww. Am I being too puritanical?

That made me LOL. I don't get those ads on this site but I've seen them on others. Your so right!!
Could we please get rid of the "super emoticon" ad that keeps popping up at the top of the page? Being greeted to "OH MY GOD! NO WAY!!" in an irritating, South Park-style voice every time I log on is starting to get annoying.
One of the admins recently said they'd talk to the ad service about getting rid of sound ads, Ricardo, so hopefully soon you won't have to hear that one again. I haven't seen it here since the first couple weeks of the forum, and it is very annoying.
