And your membership fees will be in the mail, right? NLife surely deserves more than the ad revenue it receives, and we shouldn't fight them on that. However, the types of ads, that's another story. To me, forced full-page or audio is over the top. Skins are fine though, especially when they're well done.
I don't really get too many of the sound ones. I've gotten the OMG no way ad a couple of times, but none have moved or obstructed (unless I've rolled my mouse over it) for me. I'm using Safari. Generally the ads are well placed in the top corner or as just a banner, and I really don't notice them, unless they make noise. I hope you're making triple for that orphan ad though.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
I would happily pay for premium ad-free membership myself; I already pay for Yahoo! Mail Plus!
Snap! Sounds like our ads (uk) aint half as bad as those across the pond. Pepsi n Lewis Hamilton and that guy with fish under his armpits. No orphan trailer thank god (so far).

That's definitely a good thing. I notice a lot of sites I visit all have the same ad for some kind of sexy online game. It's a bit creepy actually.
It does seem that UK (possibly european) users of Nintendo Life don't experience any of the problems with ads that our American friends recieve, I have never experienced any pop-up or sound ads whilst visiting this site and a lot of the ads are actually Nintendo related such as the Conduit and Henry Hatsworth skins which were actually pretty cool.
@Stevie, Yeah, they are handled by different companies, because we're based in the UK we can keep a much closer eye on the UK ads. The US company has told me they'll removed the offending ads.
Maybe we should offer an ad-free account for those that want it, but what would be a fair price?
Work backwards, Ant. Asuming the bills are being paid by the current ad model, it won't hurt to cautiously overestimate the conversion rate. Figure how much you'd "need" to make from the 20% or so (safe high estimate) that would abandon the ad-based model in favor of the paid subscription. Then factor in some fees to see how they'd work. If you charge that 20% ~$1 per week - 50 bucks a year - does that make up for the 20% loss of ad-based revenue? If so, is 50 bucks too much? Would ~$2 per month cover it - 25 bucks a year?
You won't get that 80% - but the %20 will recognize that they spend as much time or more in a year on your site as they do playing a game that they'd spent far more for, and might find the adlessness worth it.
If I was paying that much I think the site would need the "works in progress" feature set complete, but that price doesn't sound bad if it helps keep the site going.
