We haven’t heard of any plans to offer updates to the Nintendo DSi to allow for such playback. If you were not aware, when a video file is in a compatible format (.mp4 and .3gp), you will see the file listed in the Nintendo DSi Sound menu, but it will not be able to play. Additionally, the Nintendo DSi Browser does not support video playback online. Having said all this though, we'll be happy to forward your feedback to the appropriate department for further review.
its great to have one of my long forgoten topics reserected from the dead ovcorse if you read my first topic on this you remember i was talking about playing movies from a SD card and having a very simple user interface

Yeah... Well.. It's pretty stupid to release a system while holding back on it's potential. Especially when you have competitors like Ipod/Iphone when are being sold to it's fullest potential (for the most part)
Oh and I'm sure Nintendo reps and the prez can say that the Iphone wasn't a competitor all they wanted but behind the scenes I'm sure they already thought that from the get go.
I would rather have video playback on the Wii, but on the DSi would be cool as well.
The wii has always had video play back since its launch, however you have it run it off your SD card on your photo channel. Infact you can use all sorts of photo channel fun whilst watching videos such as video jigsaws and watching the whole video in reverse with photo channel filters such as hard boiled on them.

I thought we were talking about the ability to watch videos from the internet channel. I tried watching "The Office" from NBC.com, but it didn't work. That is what I want.

I don't know if people here are unaware of or afraid to speak out about homebrew. You can watch AVI, DPG and other video formats on the DS with certain homebrew applications like MoonShell and Tuna-viDS. You can also have MPlayer on the Wii. Do some research and you'll find out the real potential of Nintendo's consoles.

No, you can only watch one format on the DS with those homebrew os's. I think it's DGP or something.
i remember on gameboy advanced there were movies you could buy

meh, I have a WDTV for media playback on my TV and it plays back just about anything in full 1080p. I have a DVD player that plays back DVDs. I have a Stereo for playing back music and I have a Wii is for playing games.
DSi media playback I can understand. When you go out you don't want to carry heaps of stuff. If I can pick up one magical device that does everything I want to some extent then I will pick that up instead of the 4 things that do one task each..... and that's why the iPhone has done well
