Topic: Why the black frame around top 3DS screen?

I've always preferred black borders around screens because I felt it made it look nicer. Interesting how it has additional application here.

Sorry, what's this about a broken top screen? Tried looking through the forums for info, but not having much luck. We don't need launch systems breaking already!

Anyway, yeah lighter colors are always distracting to the eyes. That's why I always preferred darker Game Boys and such, so that my attention wasn't drawn elsewhere.

It was a Japanese import, so I wouldn't be surprised if it got beat up in shipping to the US. Still...

The reasoning behind the black mounting around the screen was explained in an Iwata Asks interview somewhere, but thanks for adding your scientific observation Corbs.

This 3DS I'm messing with now is my working 3DS. The original one I imported had a top screen that would not turn on at all. I sent it back the very day it arrived and my replacement 3DS came two days later. This is just a piece of glossy white cardboard paper. It's just laying on the 3DS screen, it's not attached to it.

@Corbs Wait, you imported it and it wasn't sent to you by nintendo? Boy, do I feel dumb.

Yes, really. The Cosmos Black 3DS will accentuate both screens. Not just the upper 3D screen.

Plus that way it looks like an out of proportion CommanderVideo head when the top screen goes white.

And probably for the same reason I did back in the day. Because I thought it looked sexier and would help be pick up sexy young e-babes.

That needs to happen. And I mean it needs to happen day one of American release.

@warnerdan: Well, yeah. I'm going with the black for that same aforementioned reason. All my modern game hardware is black except for the Wii, as I was unable to justify losing several hundred dollars worth of downloads to change the aesthetics when they finally released the black version.
