i've known this for awhile...they said it awhile back that Miiverse was coming to the 3DS. they just didn't give a specific date.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword

I'm bumping this only because I still can't fathom how the flying eff anybody could ever say "No, the 3DS doesn't need an account system" and I desire to hear more arguments.

And, to make a month-late response, if you lose your 3DS, you do not deserve to lose all your games and crap. If I lost my Galaxy S II, I'd get all my games intact on my next phone. If I had a Vita and I lost it, I can simply login and get my crap back. There's nothing like that for 3DS.

@rayword45
It's because people are silly.
In this thread, the only argument presented as a case against account based systems is "what if it get's hacked".
Now I'm no expert on hacking or security, but I don't think that this is a realistic concern.

The real question here is why doesn't the 3ds have an account based system?
I mean come on it's 2012 why would anyone think that it doesn't?

The lack of an account system limits my eShop purchases. I'd spend more in the eShop if I knew I wouldn't lose everything if my 3DS gets lost.

Of course it should, i hope the same Wii-U account system to hit 3DS real soon...

Maybe you don't want to send it in? Or maybe you don't have your serial number or original receipt on hand and can't file a police report?

If the Vita and ALL Smartphones have this ability, the 3DS should too.

If there was an account system, you wouldn't have to do either of those.
I don't want to (and shouldn't have to) rely on Nintendo or the police to get my games back.
If they screw up, what then?
Accounts are unquestionably better.

Im sorry to burst your bubble but as far as I know people rarely get their stuff back if it has been stolen or lost, usually they get covered by insurance so they can buy a new item, but it will then be completely empty...
Also, warranties do not last forever, and the hardware might be too broken to repair, and has to be replaced. (Also if you f.ex spill water on it, it'll be considered abuse and not something repairable under warranty and it usually would be more expensive to send it in than to replace it..)
So if there was an account system, there would be no worries.
Almost all other eshops have this option. Sony, itunes, steam, gog.com,
so I see no reason why Nintendo shouldn't offer one.

Nintendo I swear, get with the program and attach both eshops (Wii U & 3DS) to an account system.

I am The Guy. I got all the shiny trinkets. Perfect score on every Yoshi's Island level. I beat Dark Link. Basically, I'm Awesome.

Nope, not coincided at all.

Well accounts maybe easier, people are making it seem that because they don't have one (yet) its the end of the world, it's not, theyre ways, stop complaining. What if it was 1999 still and Nintendo did this (with no accounts) would you be complaining then????? I think the only reason people complain is because they KNOW of a better option, I think everything would be better if people just accepted stuff, and not complain for one reason or another

Yeah, and when a better option is possible, you have the right to expect that.

Nobody would expect this in 1999, nobody was playing online games in 1999 either. That's a terrible comparison.

If EVERY other gaming company has this ability, then why shouldn't Nintendo? It adds more then convenience, it's basically a staple, and compared to what TDH said, it's MUCH more important on a Handheld, because those are much more prone to breakage, loss and theft.

If people just accepted stuff a lot of things wouldn't get better. If people just accepted the tiny amount of space on the Wii and not complained to Nintendo about it, we probably wouldn't have been given the option to play games off the SD card. If people did not complain about the shoddy online on the Wii, we probably wouldn't have gotten something like Miiverse and all the other online stuff the Wii U offers. If people didn't complain about how horrid friend codes were, we wouldn't have gotten that remedied.

Complaining about things that put a huge damper on something and that are fixable is productive. Also, especially in electronics, expectations increase. If we were still getting games with the same complexity of the NES, gaming wouldn't be popular anymore. People's expectations increase because this is an ever-evolving industry. And, you know, companies' ability to do things like make account systems isn't incredibly hard either.

EDIT: And yeah, pretty much everything @rayword45 said. This is the norm for everything now. The fact that Nintendo hasn't implemented this is stupid. It makes for a better experience as a whole.

Nice one. It be pretty funny if a friend asked "what's your NN ID" and then you give them a 12 digit long number. I can only imagine the reaction.

Is that allowed though? I don't have a Wii U yeat, but does Nintendo allow you to make an ID consisting of just numbers?

Yeah I think so, maybe you need to add at least one letter so 12678900867J or something, but I agree with an account I'll say, just different then apple, microsofts, or PSNs I don't like those types... IDK why, it just right now what I want from Nintendo is (1000 different things ) but an account is the least (or at least close enough) of my worries

As others have said, it's not 1999 and I expect more. I shouldn't need to file a police report and work with Nintendo to get my games back if it's stolen, and although I've never lost a portable gaming system in more than 30 years of using them, there's always a first time. If my old 3DS breaks I don't want to send it in and pay to have it repaired, I simply want to replace it, link it to my account, and automatically download all my old games (ideally save data should also optionally be in the cloud and download too). That's what would happen with my Nook. It could also lock out the old system the next time it was taken online the way it does with smartphones. As I said, the lack of an account system reduces the money I spend on the eShop, and positively stops me from purchasing retail downloads from it.
