This is my first thread so please don't criticise.
What if the 3DS had it's own account system? Like, let's say you and your friend have a 3DS. You lost yours and you want to play on your friend's. But he doesn't have a specific downloaded game you want to play, and you have that game on 3DS. Well just login into your account and you can play the game.
I'm pretty sure there's no one here who has ever stumbled across this question and said 'no'.

I think No. At least, in the terms of an account between 3DS systems only. Because there is a system transfer to take care of that problem. It would only need an account system if it you could use your Wii U to backup your licenses.

But what if you lose your 3DS? What if it breaks and you don't have a warranty? What if it's freaking stolen?
There's no logical reason whatsoever to not have an account system. Even with things that barely function as a replacement, it can't be matched or beaten ATM

Screw you.
If it breaks and you have no warranty, you pay for a repair whether you like it or not (It's how the world works) And if your 3DS is stolen, you can file a police report and send it to NOA, where they are legally forced to transfer your licenses to a new system (A little known fact). And if you 3DS is lost? Your fault, though that would be the only good reason to have a account/backup system

@TheDreamingHawk: You realize you only get 5 3DS system transfers per console, right? You might've had some kind of point had we been given unlimited transfers. Also, i think what rayword45 is talking about with 'what if it breaks and it's out of warranty' is 'what if it breaks and you want to just buy a new system to replace it instead of going through the repair process on the same system to get it working again so that you can then perform a transfer' (and if he wasn't, it's a point i'd like to make). it wouldn't be an issue at all if there was an account-based system.
In all seriousness, why wouldn't it be a good idea for there to be an account-based system in place? You haven't really elaborated on that part.

Simply because: It's not really good for a handheld IMO. On consoles it's fine, but who would need to use an account system to log in to your friends' 3DS as you? it's a handheld so you can take it anywhere, unlike a console.

The point of the account is to make it so your downloads (and saves if theres a Cloud) are safe if your stuff breaks. Handheld are pretty likely to break or get lost if you actually take them places, so an account system would be extremely useful. Trust me, my brother went through 3 PSPs, one of which couldn't turn on, but luckily he could transfer his stuff no problem, because the PSP required an account.

Look at Sony handhelds. They have account systems despite the amount of quality titles and overall support being low. With a higher base to maintain, you'd think Nintendo would follow suit.

I'd like to have a choice, I'd choose have it tied because accounts can get hacked (PSN) and even if your system breaks or gets stole you can send it in or file a police report
