Because the PSP is an excellent device with an excellent library of games that is much cheaper than what it costs that go into the 3DS (mostly software, not hardware).
If you like JRPGs, the PSP is a must-have system. If you like PS1 games, it plays a lot of them (including Final Fantasy 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. And Crisis Core. And the Dissidia games. Yeah, if you like Final Fantasy, the PSP supports a lot of them).

As someone who actually has both, the best advice I can give is to look up the games on each console and see which has the most games your interested in. Both the PSP and 3DS have access to a nice selection of RPGs (the latter due to backwards-compatibility) if thats your thing, it mostly comes down to Final Fantasy vs. Dragon Quest and that sort of thing. They also each have their own downloadable classics and digital only games and either one would be a great choice for a gamer on a budget.
I've got a couple of psp games for my vita - monster hunter freedom unite and persona 3 portable. Persona is great. I stopped playing MHFU because the camera 'claw' was doing my head in.
There are a lot of decent games for the psp - have a look to see if you can actually find the games you want though... if you can't find them, pre-owned vita and downloads may be the only way to play them

I think the DS still has a more impressive JRPG library. Dragon Quest has 3 retail titles out on 3DS - but none of them are available in the West. The DS on the other hand has 7, all available here. :3
seriously listen to these guys....3DS STICKS A KNIFE IN PSP THEN CHEWS ITS BUTT LIGHTS IT ON FIRE AND THROWS IT IN AN ACID POOL.................................................yeah 3ds is way better then psp 3DS FTW!
I liked where this thread started and I hate where it's gone. I agree with the earlier sentiments of doing your own researxch, or maybe even getting both, seeing as the PSP can be easily obtained for under $100 USD. Not sure about it's price in Czech koruna, though.
@everyone - can we please stop with the zealousness and actually voice our opinions sensibly? "X console is better for Y reasons" is gonna go a whole lot farther than "3DS FTW! PSP FTL!"...
i only know about the 3DS...and it seems he was kinda confused...so, to make things clear...DS/DSi is a last generation console. The 3DS is the current generation and is backwards compatible with all (...I think) DS games. There's plenty of awesome games for both systems that can be played on the 3DS, Pokemon Black and White (and the sequels), Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, or even the two Advance Wars games. The 3DS itself has some pretty awesome games as well, so you'll just have to look into them to decide. Currently my favorites are Luigi's Mansion 2 (Dark Moon), Kid Icarus: Uprising, and Paper Mario Sticker Star. And I also heard you talking about Monster Hunter...chances are MH4 will be making its way out of Japan...but you might have to wait until later next year. In the meantime, they did release MH3G over here, now known as Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate...It's quite awesome. (I have the Wii U version though)
I don't know much about the PSP, but I just gave out some good examples of some great 3DS/DS games.
EDIT: Oh yeah, don't forget that the 3DS is getting a butt-load of more games this year...Animal Crossing is even coming out in 2 days. Also, don't forget about the Virtual Console and eShop games.
ok look people i saw some things about the psp and i only own a ds lite and a 3ds and as you can see i love my 3ds its really your desision to get a psp or not but personally i do think the 3ds is far superior over the psp......its your desision so please reply already so we can stop this thread.
