What if you could substitute Friend Codes w/ NNIDs on the 3DS Friends List? When registering a new friend, if you choose internet you can enter your friend's Friend Code or NNID. And at the bottom of someone's Friend Card it could list their NNID instead of their Friend Code by default, but by pressing A you could toggle between the two. If a friend is playing on the Wii U, it could say Currently Playing: Wii U & vice versa if you're on the Wii U. A 3rd method for registering friends could be adding a friend from your Wii U Friends List if they have a 3DS, assuming you have a Wii U; this could also work vice versa. Adding messaging between friends who have a NNID on Miiverse is also a must. Last, the age limit for registering friends could be implemented for those w/ NNIDs. If you agree, please tell Nintendo about this so my system can be implemented
When receiving a message or game invite, the status light could blink orange.
User communities on Miiverse similar to the ones in Mario Kart 7 would be very useful.
Allow more than 3 saved internet connections stored on the SD card.
Nintendo 3DS Sound could use a few improvements. The ability to rearrange the playlists would be much appreciated, as well as faster loading times.
When using the camera from the Home Menu, it offers the merge effect, but not low light. Why? Low light is much more useful, so it would only be logical to replace merge w/ low light.
When using the Internet Browser, if you have no other apps open, it would be nice if all the 3DS' RAM is used. That way you could load larger web pages. HTML5 could be used too, but that's a stretch.
The ability to gift games to friends in your home country on the 3DS eShop would be nice. It would only boost sales.
It would also be nice if Nintendo made a new model of the 3DS like the 3DS XL, but w/ a 2nd analog stick, trigger buttons towards the center of the back of the system (the L & R buttons would be smaller), better cameras, & more. I also believe that handheld gaming consoles will become a niche market if they remain the way they are now. They should be smartphones designed for gaming. The reason the Xperia failed was because Sony didn't make it an actual successor to the PSP like the Vita. This 3DS could have twice the RAM, have Android, & have Miiverse & 3DS Friends List apps on it as well. A launcher to switch the OS could be on each OS. The Internet Browser on this model could have HTML5 integration as well due to the extra RAM. Better outward cameras would be very nice too.
I think it won't happen. but let me explain it better:
in my opinion they had it planned to happen since they announced the Miiverse update(was it early 2013?) but after the SwapNote problem they had to scratch that restart the programming and planning for the update in a way to make enough restrictions for nothing on the "Swapperv"(made this name up now ) level to happen again(at least nothing that can have the blame pinned on Nintendo) so the NNID instead of friend codes thing was scrapped along with the capacity to add friends in the 3DS Miiverse.
of course it's just a theory but if I had any money I'd bet either on it or on the one that says they won't do it because of compatibility issues with older 3DS games(though this could be resolved by keeping the NNID tied to the Friend Code, meaning you'd actually be adding the other Person's Friend code automatically through the NNID)

That could very much be possible, but that last part about forcing the Wii U's age limit (which does have messaging) makes this a possibility. I came up w/ the idea of tweeting Dan Adelman just now, & I'm waiting for a response. He barely gets any tweets except from the occasional indie dev. He's the guy who suggested NNIDs on the 3DS internally. Perhaps he can be the catalyst for more.
Edit: Oh, and it's linking NNIDs I'm talking about, not replacing them. I planned this for hours considering compatibility & if it was possible to sync your 3DS & Wii U Friends Lists completely, which I found a middle ground on (add people from your Wii U Friends List to your 3DS one).
@VincentV looks like you've got all the problems covered!(at least all the ones Nintendo can use as excuse to the wider public all the rest I can think would only make sense to executives and such) hope your plan gets a positive answer!

The next update for Nintendo 3DS allows you to create a Nintendo Network ID and create a profile on Miiverse (or use the ones created on a Wii U), yes?
And the StreetPass Mii Plaza can be updated anytime, no?
Well, in the next Mii Plaza update, why don't they add an option to view the Miiverse profile of whoever you pass by (if they have one)? It could work in the same manner as selecting the "Last Game Played" or "Send To Mii Maker" sections when you select a Mii you've passed by in the plaza. It could say "View Miiverse Profile", and automatically launch Miiverse. You can't send friend requests or messages in the 3DS version of Miiverse anyway, so it's not like it'd be a problem or anything. Plus, it could be optional, and users could have the option to turn it off (like the "personal messages") so the "View Miiverse Profile" wouldn't show up when someone selects their Mii in the plaza. And if the person you StreetPass doesn't have a NNID or a Miiverse profile, then it'd just simply not show up.
I think the NNID update should just remove FCs all together, if that's possible and doesn't ruin anything. All your friends remain, and your NNID just replaces your FC.

What do you think?
That would be a good idea. You could apply the age requirement of 12 years & up to it if they add friends on MIiverse too.

Ideally, but that's a stretch, & some people have been adamant about not making NNIDs; they might get upset if they're forced to upgrade.

I've figured it's old and just for version 8. This one is for all future updates & I've developed my ideas more. Might as well replace it. I'll delete it now.

I don't really see the practicality of seeing Wii U friends considering cross play isn't prevalent yet
Yeah. Still, there's little reason not to make things more universal. Just as long as you aren't limited to 100 friends for both systems, hence them being separate in my idea.

-Cannot argue with this, messaging and adding friends on Miiverse should be universal.

-Great idea. This is one they can do. The 3DS sound is slow, unorganized, and very limited. I would also suggest that they should add a video player allowing us to play content from our own SD.
When using the camera from the Home Menu, it offers the merge effect, but not low light. Why? Low light is much more useful, so it would only be logical to replace merge w/ low light.
-Camera's are too garbage to even bother with this. Nintendo already stated that the camera's are just for fun and gameplay purposes so they will not focus on features like this. It would be nice though if the 3DS successor gave us nice 5 MP sensors, then this feature would make sense.
When using the Internet Browser, if you have no other apps open, it would be nice if all the 3DS' RAM is used. That way you could load larger web pages. HTML5 could be used too, but that's a stretch.
-Another good idea. However, due to the highly restrictive nature of 3DS's resource management I cannot see this happening. I feel they might as well add true multitasking abilities with their next system; I mean the biggest bottleneck on the 3DS in terms of multitasking is the ram, and with component prices falling I can see the next system having more ram.
The ability to gift games to friends on the 3DS eShop would be nice. It would only boost sales.
-Another great idea. You could do this at one point on Wii I believe because of different currencies and laws they decided to get rid of it when they stopped using their own points system.
Yeah, an upgraded 3DS (like the DSi was to the DS) with dual Circle Pads and better internet definitely needs to happen, but that's more hardware than software.
