pshhhh. XL FTW. I personally need the XL. I don't have tiny hands so this is a gawd send. a pity for you all but do you really think nintendo won't release the smaller version?

Yeah, the 8-14 group aren't gonna be happy about having to get something they can barely hold...
That said, N3DSXL apparently isn't much bigger than the regular 3DS I own. Only about an inch wider and a little over half an inch longer (and a quarter of an inch taller?). It is almost 4 ounces heavier, though.

Well I didn't think they wouldn't release it but after the direct I think it's pretty clear that they won't. Unless they plan on making a seperate announcement.
It's a wait and see sort of situation. I bet their data states that the XL sells better so they release the XL first. wait a month or 2 then BAM, regular size sneaks it's way into retailers without u guys noticing.

Man those 4 ounces must be debilitating.

My guess is that they think people in this side of the world, being as hardcorez as we are, simply won't be into smaller screens, rainbow buttons and cute customizable faceplates.
Seeing how they emphasized on the c-stick and its use in action and shooting games.
Was looking forward to buy the normal size one too. I guess until that day comes, I'll just keep playing on Pokemon blue XL.

When held with one hand during stylus-heavy games? Yes, it very much is. That's quite a bit heavier than the DS Phat, which I simply could not play for more than 30 minutes at a time for games like Metroid Prime: Hunters or Phantom Hourglass - games that demanded longer play sessions - without getting a sore wrist.
Of course, that's how much the current XL weighs. If you have strong hands and/or wrists and can play Kid Icarus Uprising on that for hours on end, then fine, you probably won't have a problem. But I'm personally gonna have to stay away from games like that on the new machine, especially if I give my old 3DS to my bro. :/
Between this bs and the ultra-limited editions bs I am extremely disappointed at Nintendo of America's incompetence... needless to say most of my gaming money from now on will be going elsewhere as clearly NoA doesn't want it...
I wasn't going to buy a New 3DS anyway (I have a perfectly good normal 3DS, and 3D isn't a big deal to me), so it doesn't really concern me. Having better 3D is good though, but not having the smaller option clearly made a lot of people unhappy. I'm not sure it's that big of a deal, but clearly it's some kind of deal. I doubt they'd bring the normal size here, since they've never released the XL first.

I could last about 2hrs before my wrists began to remotely bother me. Even then, I laid on my bed and just used my lap as support(they were raised up at the knee). Whatever floats your boat my friend.

I mean...to be fair, there doesn't seem to be any game even remotely interesting that relied heavily on the Stylus on the 3DS besides Uprising (and I didn't even like that game), at least ones where the nub won't make a decent replacement, so I don't think I'd have to worry the way I did on the DS.

Phoenix Wright games have heavy stylus use. But it's a matter of personal taste whether you find them interesting or not

True, but...you could use buttons and there was a lot reading where you could hold the console with both hands. I'm talking about games where you actually use the stylus for long periods of time.
