I only plan to purchase if the non xl size is released. I fall into the camp of people really bothered by the low ppi of the xl. The non xl new 3ds screen size is the perfect compromise between the original and the xl. Any thoughts on the best way to voice concern directly to Nintendo? Not that I think it will change the outcome, but it seems good to let them know there are people who want to see it in the states.
I put this in another thread, but it probably makes more sense here. I put up a petition in an attempt to show NOA that there is a market for the smaller form factor.
I feel like a second reason behind limiting us to the XL is that if you want a different looking one you'd have to buy a new one and not just some cheap faceplates.

Why use this strategy only in North America though? They released the small New 3DS in all other regions.
Maybe it works better here?
Seeing how their reasoning behind "delaying" the announcement of this revision was aparently because the older models still sold steadily, I can see they might think America is more willing to buy more of the same if it looks different.
It's just a small theory though.
It is true that they have more faith in the bigger models as the user above said.
When was the last time you saw NoA use the original model in publicity?
The dumb thing is with how difficult it's been to find an OG 3DS in NA there were probably a lot of people waiting to get a standard-sized system or hoping to downsize. I think it would have fared better than in Japan.
Is Nintendo just assuming that all Americans are a bunch of fatties that need XL systems so they don't get lost in the flab of their bellies or their big chubby fingers?

OR the XL outsold the regular version by a large margin. Did you not think of this possibility?

I really hope Nintendo is listening. I really want that standard size New 3DS!
Honestly, what in the friggin' world were they thinking, not to release it here??

No they think America is Texas. As you know, you always go BIG in Texas.

It is still possible some will exist somewhere with the USA Firmware on. (In a similar way to Australia using PAL - there are other places that use NTSC-U).

As far as I know, all of America depends on what is made for the USA.
Since there's no Nintendo of South America or anything comparable.

http://www.active-gulf.com/3ds.php - There is at least one instance I remember where a Japan only special edition was sold from someone like this with the USA firmware.

I mean...to be fair, there doesn't seem to be any game even remotely interesting that relied heavily on the Stylus on the 3DS besides Uprising ...
Not sure if someone else mentioned it, but Etrian Odyssey requires a lot of stylus use as drawing a map of the dungeon is a major aspect of the game. I'm currently playing Millennium Girl on the XL (thank you, Atlus digital sale) and it's an excellent game. I do get problems with my wrist getting sore after an hour, but it's not really related to the stylus use, as my wrists get sore from playing on the XL without using the stylus....
sooo as to the original thread, I was really leaning towards getting the standard size New 3DS here in North America, since it's such a happy medium between the original standard 3DS and XL models. As for now, I'm really leaning towards waiting on the New 3DS since I already have 4 3DS models and a Wii U to keep me occupied. One good thing about being a Nintendo fan: there's always a diverse and interesting back catalog. The Wii Virtual Console games finally arriving completely outshines whatever disappointment I have about the new 3DS XL in NA. The virtual console is what sets Nintendo apart from PS and XB and even PC; they absolutely have to continue bringing more classics to satisfy me as a consumer. That's my 2 cents.
