Topic: My son's 3DS hates Mii.

Clever title, long story. Here we go:

So, I got a copy of Mario 3D Land. Just 1 copy to share between the three of us and our 3 systems. Installed the system update on all three systems and we've all played the game a bit.

When my son was getting street pass hits, he got some from a Mii we didn't recognise, which was a bit odd since his 3DS hadn't left the house. Then at one point when I was driving him to school, he was on about "the stranger is on World 8" and I realised he was playing on my save (a serious crime, in my household).

When I investigated, I found that with the game card in his 3DS, it shows my Mii up incorrectly, but it's fine on the other 2 systems in the house. If I change the Mii associated with the save, it changes just fine, but if I change it back to my own, it's broken. I then decided to check if it was just a SM3DL issue and checked if he had any Mii Plaza hits to collect in his notifications. Oddly, it said he had 3/99 for that software, which was weird as the limit used to be 10. I figured the update may have changed this, but when I checked mine and my wife's systems, they still had a limit of 10.

Sure enough, there were problems with my Wii in Mii Plaza, too. So I wondered if he'd saved my Mii onto his Mii editor and that had got corrupted. He hadn't got my Mii on there, so I used Wifi to transfer it. When it dropped onto his screen, it looked like the Mii displayed in SM3DL on his system (ie not me) and the name and other details were blank. What's really weird is that if I then transfer that "corrupted" Mii from his system to my wife's, it drops on there perfectly normal and correct.

My assumption is that the system update has corrupted a couple of things on his 3DS. I'm really hoping that the next one fixes things rather than makes them worse or even worse, bricks his system.

Anyone else had any issues since getting SM3DL?

Does your son's 3DS have some parental settings turned on that yours and your wifes does not? That could that be causing your Mii issues on that system.

Hmm, yes it does, but it didn't affect it before the system update and I'd be surprised if that 3/99 Mii Plaze StreetPass hits was caused by parental locks. I'll give it a look, though.

After all that you didn't even post a picture of the Mii? I'm shocked! Let's see the pictures, and tell us how it looks different on your son's console. (I don't have the game myself, so I don't have any idea how to help you .. I'm just nosey as to what it looks like.)

Might do a video, as the Mii swapping between systems stuff is bizarre. Anyway, I posted my Mii a while back as a QR code.

Does it have a helmet?

So, turning off the parental controls made no difference and the latest firmware also made no difference. Now I just need to get my hands on a new 3DS system to transfer his over to, see if that sorts it. If only there was some sort of competition where I could win a new 3DS in Europe....

Instead of buying a new system, I would just send it into Nintendo.

OK, it seems that the 3/99 Street Pass hits was a red herring. I actually read about it a day or so ago on a developer forum, seems it is a known issue that is easily solved by de-activating and then re-activating Street Pass for the particular title affected (could be any title). The issue is possibly fixed in newer firmware.

The "stranger" Mii seems to have been caused by my son managing to block me on his system, despite having to answer "Yes" to 4 questions in a row where the default answer is "No". To fix the issue (which was preventing him getting any new puzzle pieces from me or from me being over level 1 in Mii Plaza games), I had to go to his system settings, Data Management and delete the list of blocked players. Seems you can't undelete any blocked players one by one.

So, problem(s) solved. Seems the title of the thread should have been "My son hates me."

You can block people on your 3DS?

What's the point of that, you can't communicate with them.

Well, they could have offensive names/greetings for their Mii characters. And I'm sure some people would be able to play around with the Mii Maker and make something offensive looking...

You'd be laughing even more if I'd mentioned that less than 24hrs before fixing the problem, I bought another 3DS console in the hope that the system transfer would sort it.

You really should put the parental control on it before you give him it, theres always going to be obscene things and he's 5. He is not going to know unless he's told and there is a number of obscene words blocked, I think you can make it where there's no greeting from the streetpass.
