IGN has made a top ten list of stuff they think the 3DS needs to stay viable in the coming years.
10 - GBA & SNES VC Games. One of Nintendo's biggest ways to compete with iOS on the digital front, is with their backlog of classic games, so SNES & GBA games would be great leverage.
9 - Miiverse. It's great on Wii U, and it'd be great to get that cool community feeling on 3DS.
8 - Intergrated Second Circle Pad. The lack of it just limits how complex 3DS games can get.
7 - More Colors. Japan has loads more than the west, & introducing more would only up sales.
6 - Nintendo Network ID's. If your 3DS breaks, you need a way to transfer all your data.
5 - Non Gaming Apps. YouTube & Skype would work wonderfully on 3DS (and the 3D offers a way to watch YouTube in new ways).
4 - Original Core Zelda, Metroid, & Pokémon releases. This one is pretty self explanitory.
3 - Western Third Party Support. The support it's getting from Capcom, Tecmo Koei, ect., is great, but to thrive in the west, they need to get the likes of Activision, EA, ect., on board.
2 - Cheaper eShop. eShop has some good content (and the Mario games are worth $40), but the pricing is a bit off putting when compared to prices on iOS, which is also filled with quality.
1 - Better eShop Design. The eShop is needlessly confusing to navigate, & not as user friendly as digital shops such as the App Store.
