Right here shows that the 3DS's graphical capabilities and RAM aren't up to snuff compared to the PS Vita and the iPhone 4S. However, remember when Crysis first came out, and even the strongest of PCs couldn't handle the game at high settings? It was released for consoles at 2011 with heavy optimization, and it played smoothly and looked great. I think the same could happen with the 3DS: release a slightly less graphically intense version of the game with heavy optimizing, and the games would look great and play smoothly.

Or, at least, just port them over to PSN as well.

[/div]

Did you forget how much the 4S runs in the background while running the games? The 3DS and Vita only run a little stuff in the background. The 3DS games to the 4S would be the ones requiring being watered-down and heavily optimized. Not saying the 4S sucks, but it's not exactly an ideal gaming device, at least not yet.

Yeah, I kind of said that before. But I'm taking account to the 4S's improved GRAPHICAL capabilities compared to the 3DS's. Graphical capabilities can help the game look nice and run better. Why else would today's PC shooters be almost completely dependent on the video card when running at a respectable setting?

The 3DS trumps the 4S in graphics. If you are talking about 2D graphics (Angry Birds), then yeah, the 4S is better. But 3D graphics-wise, the 3DS is much better equipped.

Hm. If that's the case, then the 3DS could have no problem getting those games, then. Gameloft started with Let's Golf! 3D on the eShop last July, and that was a port of Let's Golf 2.

Keep the games coming. With original games too to please those looking for something new.

lol The 4S blows the 3DS's graphical abilities out of the water.
You will never EVER see a game like Nova 3 or Infinity Blade on the 3DS and have it look that good.

If you mean 3D effect, as in the 3D screen.. Then obviously the 3DS wins.
If you are more specifically talking about art style, then that's completely up to personal opinion and both the 3DS and IOS have some very beautiful and artistic games.

They said the same thing about Crysis... I think. Now look at where it is already.

At least port over Unreal Engine 2.5, if not 3, to help make more original games for the 3DS and to port over Infinity Blade.

Bear in mind that the 3DS's screen resolution is quite a bit smaller than the 4S's, so it can get away with lower specs for some things.

Wait a minute. Is the entirety of the iOS's processing power completely dedicated to the games? I don't think so: it may need additional power to take in calls, text messages, and others. The 3DS mostly doesn't have that same problem (SpotPass and StreetPass), so more power can be dedicated to the game itself. Plus, the 3DS runs at a lower resolution than iOS devices, so power usage won't be used as much as on iOS devices.

I would think that they will have to sacrifice some things, like some special effects and have framerate issues (if not, hooray), but the core gameplay will still be intact.

Actually the special effects might not have to be sacrificed. For instance, there's this zoom-in motion blur effect in Gameloft's MC games, and it slows down on the iPad 1 (which, specs-wise, is basically the iPhone 4 with half the memory and a slightly higher resolution) while it works fine on an iPhone 3GS, which has worse specs but something like 1/5 of the pixels in the display. Transparent textures seems to be the main thing that slows up iOS devices, and I think it's because of their high resolutions (even the new iPad has issues with it in NOVA 3)

I kinda tthink the main thing they'd have to do would be to reduce the number of polys in the models, but it seems like iOS devs like Gameloft and ChAIR already do that for older devices. I don't really know though — I don't do 3D dev, haha.

Then there's no excuse. Unless handling the 3D is hard, iOS games would sit next to my eShop games nicely.

I like the idea of Infinity Blade, but I see it more as a 3DS card.

No. Even the best iOS games aren't worthy of a retail release on a dedicated gaming portable.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Ones that are priced competitively. A lot of iOS games would benefit from proper buttons/analog stick, but I'm not going to pay $8 for a game that's $.99 on the app store.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

Like Zenonia? That was worth the $7.99 to play out in buttons. It means more enjoyment from the game. It allows people to enjoy the game more. Of course, that varies from person to person, but to me, buttons are a huge price to pay. If not, amazing.

Plus, most of the games I want on the eShop are NOT $0.99. They're mostly $5.99 and up, like pretty much every Gameloft game and the Infinity Blade Trilogy.

I just remembered an iOS game I was addicted to for a month. It's called Flying Hamster and it's kind of like Bird Mania, but it has a story. Now if it had 3d like Bird Mania and cost like 3.99 I'd buy it.

I was referring to the three dimensional rendering of the landscapes and character models. Just compare Resident Evil Mercenaries on iOS to that on 3DS. Or the other Resident Evil iOS game (don't remember the name, but Leon's in it) compared to Revelations.

Awful lot of talk here about hardware capabilities. I'm sure some sacrifices/ buffs could be made, but eventually many of these games could run, at some level, on the 3DS.

THAT being said, I agree that I would love for some Gameloft games on eShop:
Blades of Fury - Wonderful little handheld fighter that DOESN'T require hours of practice (nudge nudge Capcom). Would be great for online play
NOVA/Modern Combat - Solid solo and online shooters - Plus, maybe daily spotpass challenges?

Other cool games:
Soosiz - GREAT 2D platformer with mario galaxy-style gimmicks. gets very challening.
Street Fighter IV Volt - Yes, we have SFIV. However, the control scheme introduced for IOS COMPLETELY changes how Capcom fighting games can be played. I am terrible at special move execution normally, but on IOS, I am able to play the mindgames, fireball fights, and wakeup uppercuts that make SF games so exciting for the pros.
King of Fighters ios - same story as SFIV Volt

Overhead dual-stick shooters - Minigore, Age of Zombies, Call of Mini, Guerilla Bob - i think these can be done pretty well Kid-icarus style, especially since they aren't nearly as damn squirmy as KI Uprising.

All in all, I wish Nintendo would pursue these devs and get them on the eShop.

  • World of Goo - you mean port the WiiWare game?
  • Peggle - you mean the PC game ported to the DS ?
  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4 / CD - you mean the console game?
  • Dead Space - you mean make a console game like RE
  • Mass Effect - see above
  • NBA Jam - you mean the Wii game?
