Remember the Snes Launch? Mario world, F-zero and Pilotwings. That was about it. Yeah real stellar launch.
Now the Snes is known as one of the all time favorite systems. You just have to give it time.
The 3DS is still young. I see the same topics with every new system launch.
Boo hoo the (Insert system name here) doesn't have any good games.
It's collecting dust. I haven't played it in months. I'm selling it tomorrow.

Well good luck with that.

The SNES's launch was enitriely different. All three of those titles were brand new games. Pilotwings was pretty much the only brand new game at the 3DS's launch, and it was essentially a port of WSR's free fly mode. So yeah, the SNES's launch has nothing in common with the 3DS's. At least it got a Mario game to start out with, (and the 3DS doesn't have one until nine months after release.). Arguably the best Mario game to date, even. Heck, all three of those games are still highly regarded today. Also, didn't Mario World come free with the system, at least at first?

so you're saying a handheld isn't good if it offers a deep game? that explains the idevice fanboyism

There are plenty of deep games on iOS.

A couple of points, in no particular order:

  • 3DS games are a bit mediocre at the moment (with the obvious exclusion of OoT)
  • The 3DS should be picking up steam later this year
  • The PS Vita looks fantastic from the get-go, although they need to avoid early DS touch screen controls
  • There's a ridiculously large amount of announced titles (that look great) for the 3DS that are decades away from release
  • @rob1nfly Why? What's to be hated about it?
  • Both the Vita (I'm not sure how its suddenly become relevant to this topic, but oh well) and the 3DS should be great
  • I don't see the point in slamming the Vita just because it represents competition for the 3DS and/or comes from Sony. If anything it will shake Nintendo into releasing some high-quality games, which is exactly what I'm after from both companies.
  • So, in summary, the overriding theme from my smorgasbord of bullet points seems to be: Vita-Short term, 3DS-long term, but both =

Yeah, you all buy your Playstation Vitas with all of 3 or 4 good games for them. That's great. Awesome. Collect dust while I'm playing Luigi's Mansion 2 and Mario Kart 3DS. I have a PSP on my entertainment center gathering amoebas as we speak. Have fun with that.

Haha, I'm sorry, but did I just hear you slam the PSP for only having 3 or 4 good games at the end of 2011 (which, by the way, is when it's launching), and say the 3DS is better based on game quantity alone, and only list two 3DS games to back it up? If the Vita had 3 or 4 decent games at launch, that would be more than the 3DS could say for itself. :3

People who buy a Vita will buy him, and probably only play Nintendo games on it via an illegal emulator! )

The iPad has Avadon and Romance of the Three Kingdoms.

The 3DS has no RPG or Strategy game, respectively, that comes close to the quality or depth of either of those games. Try again.

Not that there's much point in pointing this out, since you've decided to be childish about it, but I am a fanboy of no device. I like Sony and Microsoft products too, and I've owned more Nintendo products than anything else. That lack of allegiance is precisely why I am so disappointed with Nintendo, as they are doing their damnest to provide me with a wholly inferior handheld console (3DS) and the most unattractive home console ever (Wii U). I remain positive about the potential of Nintendo, but that's residual feelings more from nostalgia than anything else.

But what do I care? You're the ones missing out on awesome games.

3DS comparison with Vita is like comparing a Famicom with a PS1. Did famicom users enjoy its games? Surely yes. Is there any point comparing it with PS1? Of course nope. Problem here is that the PS1 will be almost cheaper than the famicom.

squareenix looks motivated and already has two listings. heroes of ruins looks quite deep and promising.
i wouldnt say their 3ds is damn inferior, it just floats in a cloud of promising future and lack of details in information.
also, there will be a smash bros on it. dont forget that level of deepness.

like a lot of consoles, im a bit deceived of it at first, but with time, it grows better.
i hated the ps1 at first, finding it more of a gimmick than anything else. then it grew good and i remember some AMAZING games like final fantasy 7 or xenogear. same thing happened with the ps2, which i didnt believed in at first. then years later i finally bought the slim version and had a blast at a lot of cheap and stunning games i passed by.
i usually always buy consoles 1 or 2 years later, when the library is big, and games much cheaper (and available used for even cheaper)
sometimes i think i should have waited like i always do, but i needed an handheld console for my work transportation. since it plays DS games, im more than happy with it, and knowing it will have a solid library in a year or 2, i feels that this buddy will follow me for a long time.

but you said in-depth games aren't in line with a portable...you bash 3DS but turn around and praise ithingy with the same thing you bashed 3DS with?

I don't 'bash' anything, since I graduated high school a few years ago now.

What I said was that the 3DS' usage model was not in line with a portable device. The only time I want to play with it is when I'm sitting at home with a few hours spare for a 'in depth' game. Because the device is so inferior at anything that isn't playing games, I feel no desire to us it on the train, or during my lunch break at work, or those other 10 minute down periods. Because I can juggle movies, music, reading, Internet and games far better on the iPad or PSP, those are far better 'companion' devices for out and about.

Then the problem for the 3DS when I'm at home is... It's competing against the TV and the PS3 and Wii.

So in short, a few months after buying not one, but two 3DS' I still have no idea where it's meant to be used.

Mark my words, in two years time, the original poster of this thread will have regretted selling his 3DS. Give it time, people. It's already infinitely better than it was at launch and it's only gonna get better.

He will have bought it back before two years...the thing has been out for what 3 months? Every new system launch we hear the same story from 'loyal fans'. If they were that loyal, they wouldn't have forgotten how the previous launches went

I love my 3DS and will never regret getting it...even when the price drops (potentially when the vita comes out / holidays). It has even replaced my DSi XL to play regular DS games.

I'm getting the Vita by Christmas as well, but based on the PSP (which I like) I am doubtful that the game library will be as good as the 3DS. Not to mention 3D Netflix, etc

The 3DS is a game console, by a game company. Not a multimedia device. Nintendo isn't in the multimedia business. They're in the game business. They sell video games and video game accessories. who got the joke?

nintendo is like apple for gaming. they got their own mind and philosophy. and i loved it years after years.
