they always have a lousy library of games in the first year.
While that maybe the case I can't remember a single North American launch that was great for any system
As both a portable and a Nintendo handheld, the GBA deserves a mention for having a terrific first year. F-Zero, Tekken Advance, Golden Sun, Advance Wars, Chu Chu Rocket, Castlevania, Wario Land 4, Klonoa, Sonic Advance, Konami Krazy Racers, Spyro, a handful of decent ports/enhanced games, and several others. Japan also got Fire Emblem 6.
Nintendo and third parties are taking their sweet time with the 3DS, for better or for worse. At least you'll have plenty of time to save up again, OP.
I was lucky enough to be able to return mine to the store that I bought it from. I can honestly say that I am a lot happier having that $250 in my pocket than owning a 3DS right now. Sure I'll probably pick one up again later on when it drops in price and there are some games that I am actually interested in playing but for now I don't miss it one bit.
If you all dont mind me asking why do you go running out to buy the 3DS on launch day if you are just going to be disappointed by it and return it? Nintendo released a launch schedule list of what games were coming out so its not like you didnt know what limited titles they were going to have first.
This is actually the first system that Nintendo has released that I was really disappointed with at launch. The games were okay, I bought five of them: Pilotwings Resort, Steel Diver, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, Super Street Fighter IV and Nintendogs + Cats. I kept the games because I know that I will be picking up a 3DS again someday. I just expected a whole lot more from the 3DS and felt that overall it was seriously lacking and not worth the price that I paid for it. The 3D effect was cool to look at but that novelty wore off after about a week. To me it just feels like a barely upgraded model of the DS and not the true handheld successor that Nintendo was hyping it up to be. If I felt that I was getting my money's worth then I would have kept it but to me it wasn't worth it, simple as that. Oh and from what I have seen of the eShop so far it doesn't look like I am missing out on much either.
yeah, I'm a pretty diehard Nintendo defender...sometimes, but Nintendo is dropping the ball a lot this year. I don't even agree with a lot of what Waltzelf has said but there's a point.
Of course, I think a lot of Nintendo gamers deserve this for reasons I've explained countless times, but for people like me or others who actually tried to support original good games, this really sucks. All of this.
I just realized I can't name one game that isn't a sequel to a popular series to get for the rest of this year (this knowledge might convince me to get Solatarabo after all!)
I don't need to bring up the 2009 list again right?
INNOVATION = SEQUELS. GOOD JOB 3RD PARTIES. GOOD JOB NINTENDO.
I gave up! And nothin' gets me down You got it tough, I've seen the toughest around And I know, baby, just how you feel You got to roll with the punches and get to what's real!!

Remember the Snes Launch? Mario world, F-zero and Pilotwings. That was about it. Yeah real stellar launch. Now the Snes is known as one of the all time favorite systems. You just have to give it time. The 3DS is still young. I see the same topics with every new system launch. Boo hoo the (Insert system name here) doesn't have any good games. It's collecting dust. I haven't played it in months. I'm selling it tomorrow.

@Link79 That may be the case, but SNES seems like a bad example. Later that year came Final Fantasy IV, ActRaiser, Final Fight, Gradius III, Contra III, LOZ: A Link to the Past, and other titles that continue to define the system to this day. It seems like a lot of older consoles didn't take as long to get things started up (is the improvement of technology happening too quickly to keep up with? who knows), so it's hard to blame one for selling the system when nothing on the horizon sounds intriguing. Given how things work, it's unlikely we'll see these sorts of definitive titles before March 27 (other than the ones confirmed for this year) since dates are so tentative.
Buying a PS3 gives access to an established library of games as opposed to one that is still developing. The OP's time and money will presumably be consumed by that, unless it turns out OP doesn't enjoy it.
@kkslider the really frightening thing is, if you look back, when it comes to innovation and new IPs and risk, it usually happens more when a console launches. As a console ages, publishers tend to be more risk adverse with their properties (I didn't notice this until the managing director of Ubisoft in Australian pointed it out to me, but then I looked back and he is right)
It's really a problem that the 3DS has launched with very little in new IPs. It indicates one of two things. One is there is no faith in the console. The other possibility is that the developers can't do much with it. I tend to believe the latter. There are very few developers or publishers comfortable with 3D

I saw the new Gameinformer with the coverage of the Vita and I have to say... nothing looks good. At all. But maybe that's just me. All I know for sure is that this upcoming winter I'm not going to be playing anything but the 3DS.

Oh no....you sold your soul! I made the mistake a lot of times, and always regretted it afterwards.....Nothing wrong with PS3....if you like wargames.....i don't!

Or RPGs, or Fighting games, or Puzzlers, or Beat-em-ups, or adventure games, or music games, or arthouse games, or platformers, or horror games.
Wow you don't like a whole lot of genres
Also, just to clarify something for you: FPSers are not wargames. Wargame is a subgenre of strategy games, usually played on a table, not a videogame at all.
The PS3 hasn't got many wargames at all, incidentally. Just RUSE
Haha...i knew this would happen! Fanboy-bash!...I know there are a lot of genres out on the Bony PS3...I bought the PS3 two times!!!!....I just want to tell that there is a lack of good platformers on the PS3, exept Ratchet and Cranck...
The only thing that is good about PS3, is Uncharted, and the online capicity.....you know, i think Nintendo games are just better than Bony games....but hey, that's just my opinion! Peace!
The 3DS is for handheld gaming. Then what do you only need? Games. You need to be patient. Everybody does. You need to wait for games, and for the PS Vita. I know that a lot of stuff on it sucks, such as the Ninty Video and the not-filled-with-3dsware-eShop but give it time! Who needs a handheld for watching movies, browsing on the web or whatever, you buy a handheld for playing games. If you want to browse on the internet, but a pc/laptop/iPad. If you want to watch movies, make sure you have a DVD Player. I know that handhelds and smartphones (need to) have a lot of other stuff on it, but the important part is still the... freakin' games!

Funnily enough, I have an iPad, and I use it much, much more than my 3DS (yes, for games too, and no, I don't own Angry Birds), because I can do whatever I like with it.
I also appreciate having a few comics and movies on my PSP.
I have to be in a mood to sit down and play an in-depth game to bother with the 3DS. That's neither convenient, nor in line with a 'portable' console. The only reason I carry it around is for StreetPass. I feel no inclination to pull it out during the day, because everything it does, the iPad and PSP do far, far better (remembering that I like RPG and Strategy games, movies, and reading books/ magazines/ comics)
@waltzy so you're saying a handheld isn't good if it offers a deep game? that explains the idevice fanboyism
Indeed...another fanboy busted, haha...You know what i don't understand about some people? They moan about how bad Nintendo is, and how fantastic other brands are.....what the heck are they doing on a site like "Nintendlife" on a daily basis? If the systems they play their games on, are so fantastic, and have the most, wonderful games....they have no time to moan about Nintendo consoles and games.....unless.....they are bored and frustrated, because secretly, the other formats don't succeed in their needs? I just wonder........
The Vita is beautiful.....but it's like a supercar....no petrol is no fun....same with DS and PSP......The DS is a Mini, the PSP a Ferrari.....if "games" are "petrol"......I love the Ferrari, but i couln't find any petrol for it....that's why i drive the Mini, and the Ferrari is in my garage!
