Looky, looky. IGN just scored Mirror of Fate with a whoppin' 4.7 Can't say I'm too suprised!
http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/03/05/castlevania-lords-of-sh...

"In short, Mirror or Fate suffers from a troubling identity crisis. Caught between developer MercurySteam’s high-quality reimagining of the Castlevania series in Lords of Shadow and the towering legacy left behind by the Koji Igarashi-driven handheld games (some of the best available on both Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS), Mirror of Fate is a muddled, rarely enjoyable slog that attempts to take inspiration from both, but ends up pleasing the sensibilities of neither camp of Castlevania fans. It’s unfocused, unfulfilling, drab and boring."

"Where Mirror of Fate really begins to fall apart is in how it plays. For starters, it lacks the tight, consistent controls that are the hallmark of the handheld Castlevania games that came before it"

4 out of 10 from review rating from IGN? What in the name of all that's holy is that crap.

I have the game and its brilliant. Graphics are great, gameplay is great. I haven't played a castlevania game before but I love this.

Which is why you're praising it. You have nothing to compare it to, and if you had played the earlier traditional or metroid inspired sequals you would realise that MOF aint' all that. :p

first i was excited for the game, but after playing the demo... im underwhelmed

sure, demo was pretty short and the overall game will hopefully be better, but from i've seen.. pretty disappointing, just boring - unfortunately

The ratings are all over the board on this one. I'm still going to dl it as I enjoyed the demo. So far 11 ratings in ranging from 92 down to 25 ouch. 71 overall. How in the world could some praise it and other despise it so much?! Well I guess I'm about to find out lol!

The IGN reviewer sounded like a guy completely blinded by nostalgia.

I enjoyed what I played in the demo, although I won't be getting it ATM because there are other games I want more coming out.

Exactly. I loved that game too, IGN can go swivel.

I'm beginning to ignore reviewers less and less now days as they bring personal feelings into it.

@Ralizah - Couldn't agree more.

I didn't know @WaveBoy worked at IGN.

No, I just kid, but the game does interest me to a certain amount. I might get it depending on how lengthy the playtime is.

It's suppose to be 20 hours + I just wish it was available in the eshop. 3rd parties just ain't getting the love Nintendo gives itself!

What nostalgia? :p For some whacky reason, Castlevania(aside from IV which i got maybe 15 min' playtime at my friends house during the SNES era) completely escaped me growing up. I got into the series a few or so years ago all thanks to the Wii's VC. Call it modern nostalgia if you will? :p Really, i'm all for new ideas....I mean, the last thing i'd want is another METROIDvania. SOTN and Dawn of sorrow(which i felt was better actually) wereenough for me, yet i never grow tired of the traditional/Classic games. But based on the MOF demo, i'm just not feeling the controls or the entire god of war combo based gameplay and the dozens of moves that you gradually earn throughout the game. I might give it a chance, but not at full price.

well 20hours+ sounds like a decent amount of time, even though if the game is bad that could actually very well be torture O.O

off topic:
was thinking of buying Liberation Maiden since Tomb Raider won't arrive until tomorrow or the day after tomorrow...
but i've read a few reviews and they said it only takes you like 1hour - 1hour 30mins to beat it, is that true?
1hour.. that's probably the shortest game of all time.. -_-

Dear reviewers everywhere,

Please, please, please DO NOT compare games with previous games in the series and base your score off of that biased view. Review them for what they are and stop longing for something else. If you want a game to be like the past... Play the game from the past!

Glad NintendoLife reviews are straightforward. Thanks NintendoLife!

Yeah, I know what you're talking about with the whole GoW style combat. Honestly, I didn't mind the controls too much, but they certainly could have been improved. It almost seems like they should have either gone full Metroidvania or just stick with the linear style of old. I did think it was funny in the IGN review how Colin complained about having to use the circle pad when you can clearly switch to the d-pad instead.

I dont know I have played Castlevania III Dracula's Curse, Super Castlevania IV, Castlevaina: Bloodlines, Dracula X, Symphony of the Night, Castlevaina 64, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, Aria of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissonance, Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Lord of Shadows, and I have to say that I rather enjoyed MoF. Its different I will give it that and yes the combat took some time to get use to (especially at this time I am replaying SotN) but it is not a bad game. While its to early to tell if this will be my favorite Castlevania game (which I doubt since it will take alot to topple SotN in my eyes) its far from the worst which IMO would be Lament of Innocence.

Honestly I think the ones who are knocking this game are people blinded by nostalgia, but thats common now adays. I know people who hate the Nolan series of Batman cause its different than Burton's or even the old TV show. People said the same thing about Star Wars episodes 1, 2, 3. Honestly the best advice here is play what you like and let them play what they like. Stop trying to convince others why the older ones is better or why the newer ones are better. Really MoF isnt better or worst than any other of the Castlevania series its just different thats all.

Honestly I dont get people they cry and whine that they want something different so than you give it to them and then they cry and whine that it is different. I am guessing those are the Street Fighter fans.
