The ratings are all over the board on this one. I'm still going to dl it as I enjoyed the demo. So far 11 ratings in ranging from 92 down to 25 ouch. 71 overall. How in the world could some praise it and other despise it so much?! Well I guess I'm about to find out lol!

well 20hours+ sounds like a decent amount of time, even though if the game is bad that could actually very well be torture O.O
off topic:
was thinking of buying Liberation Maiden since Tomb Raider won't arrive until tomorrow or the day after tomorrow...
but i've read a few reviews and they said it only takes you like 1hour - 1hour 30mins to beat it, is that true?
1hour.. that's probably the shortest game of all time.. -_-
Please, please, please DO NOT compare games with previous games in the series and base your score off of that biased view. Review them for what they are and stop longing for something else. If you want a game to be like the past... Play the game from the past!
Glad NintendoLife reviews are straightforward. Thanks NintendoLife!

Yeah, I know what you're talking about with the whole GoW style combat. Honestly, I didn't mind the controls too much, but they certainly could have been improved. It almost seems like they should have either gone full Metroidvania or just stick with the linear style of old. I did think it was funny in the IGN review how Colin complained about having to use the circle pad when you can clearly switch to the d-pad instead.

4 out of 10 from review rating from IGN? What in the name of all that's holy is that crap.
I have the game and its brilliant. Graphics are great, gameplay is great. I haven't played a castlevania game before but I love this.
Which is why you're praising it. You have nothing to compare it to, and if you had played the earlier traditional or metroid inspired sequals you would realise that MOF aint' all that.
I dont know I have played Castlevania III Dracula's Curse, Super Castlevania IV, Castlevaina: Bloodlines, Dracula X, Symphony of the Night, Castlevaina 64, Castlevania: Lament of Innocence, Aria of Sorrow, Harmony of Dissonance, Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Lord of Shadows, and I have to say that I rather enjoyed MoF. Its different I will give it that and yes the combat took some time to get use to (especially at this time I am replaying SotN) but it is not a bad game. While its to early to tell if this will be my favorite Castlevania game (which I doubt since it will take alot to topple SotN in my eyes) its far from the worst which IMO would be Lament of Innocence.
Honestly I think the ones who are knocking this game are people blinded by nostalgia, but thats common now adays. I know people who hate the Nolan series of Batman cause its different than Burton's or even the old TV show. People said the same thing about Star Wars episodes 1, 2, 3. Honestly the best advice here is play what you like and let them play what they like. Stop trying to convince others why the older ones is better or why the newer ones are better. Really MoF isnt better or worst than any other of the Castlevania series its just different thats all.
Honestly I dont get people they cry and whine that they want something different so than you give it to them and then they cry and whine that it is different. I am guessing those are the Street Fighter fans.

After playing the demo I can only say that what you say makes no sense to me. I've got Aria, Portrait, Eclessia, Harmony, Dawn, Legacy of Darkness and Lords and love all the Metroidvania ones and I'm glad they change its style. Not that I don't want more Metroidvania but it's nice to have something different.
MOF's problem is that it's coming out at a time when there's a lot of great 3DS games releasing. A year ago I would have been all over this, but there's just too much stuff in the immediate future or on the horizon to justify getting this right now. Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Soul Hackers, Fire Emblem, Luigi's Mansion, Harmoknight, Pokemon X and Y, Project X Zone, M&L: Dream Team, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, and countless virtual console releases all have priority over this. Moreover, I'd like to get some of the older SMT games for the DS and PS2, and, if I end up getting a Wii U, I'll want some games for that.
So I don't see myself being able to get this anytime in the near future. Too bad...
My early impressions. So far the game starts out different then the demo. It's actually much easier combat wise as enemies die faster. At least the weaker ones do. The graphics and visuals look even better one the early stages as the lightning looks absolutely excellent. What I have noticed though is the polygon count on the regular enemies is rather low. They look blocky or more sharp edged. Sound are great but there is something off a bit on the cut scenes. Lip movement isn't quite right and looks rather strange! Overall though good experience in the early part of the game. I'm at the first main boss I think and its not easy as he has quite a few hit points.
