I was really looking forward to this but was a little disappointed by the demo. The 2D Castlevania's controls feel tighter and more responsive to me, whereas this felt slower and "heavier". The animations and physics felt a little slow too, but I guess that's the trade-off moving to polygons...

Having played the demo I'd rather pull teeth than play the full game. But hey, perhaps magic happens and the game actually gets interesting at some point later on.

First Castlevania game I have played and I actually kinda liked the demo. Might actually get the earlier games before I buy this one.

@IAmNotWill: The other games are great but the play different than MoF. Some are platformers while others like SotN are Metriodvania type. Still if you havent played them before you dont know what you are missing.

Anyhow back on topic, I downloaded the demo and I have got to say I was impressed. I wasn't a big fan of Lord of Shadows whole God of War playstyle for the 360/PS3 reboot but the story was interesting. I thought that this one would be alot like that but I find it more of a combination of all the Castlevania playstyles. There were elements like the early Castlevania games mainly like Castlevania IV where you have to swing to places using your whip but the level layout had more of a Metroidvania style to it like SotN, or DoS. However boss battles and combat was like the God of War Lord of Shadows type. To me its almost the perfect blend. It took me awhile to get use to the enemies being a bit tougher and having to take your time and not having the ability to charge through them like in SotN but once I got the hang of it I got use to it.

Looking forward to this one indeed.

I quite liked the demo. It was a little tough at first, but once you get used to the mechanics, you feel a little bad@ss. I especially liked the special finishing moves you can pull off if an enemy is stunned (both bosses in the demo had to be killed with the special, but you can do it to regular enemies as well). The platforming was well done, IMO, and while the FPS was a little slow, the game looked good overall.

I don't have the money for retail games at the moment, but it has made me interested in the series, so I'll probably DL the Castlevania Adventure soon, to get acquainted to the series proper.

the game looks awesome !

Gonna have to agree! The 3D effect is outstanding, especially during the cut scenes & end Boss battle. :o And i think that's what is ultimately making the experience seem more enjoyable than it really is. Turn off the 3D and the magic goes 'poof'. This truly is a stereocopic 3D showcase for the 3DS. Yet it doesn't play or control like any of the traditional castlevania games, as expected. If anything it seems kind of simular to a 2D God of war with Metroidvania elements thrown in. ,I'm also not too crazy over the floaty jumping and the music at least in the demo didn't exactly stand out. It's a beautiful game no doubt, but it sacrifes framerate(runs in 30fps instead of 60fps) to bust out the crazy detail.

Anyhoo! Overall it wasn't too shabby, and I really enjoyed the demo's end boss battle as well. The way you had to time your rolling, double jumping and the like was good stuff. I'll probably pick this one up, but not on day one. At this point I'm gushing over the 3D effect + Cutscenes more so than the actual gameplay. :p Maybe if the jumping didn't feel so floaty, the controls weren't as heavy and if your actions weren't a as delayed I'd be a bit more excited. As somebody already pointed out, the older Castlevania's feel more responsive and tighter.

I'm going to warn you off again one more time stay far away from the turd of a gameboy game. It's the worst in the series of Castlevaina games and not worth a dime. I warned ya in the download topic but I noticed you don't read a lot of other people's comments lol. It's a total waste of money. Start anywhere else please!

As for the demo I really loved it. The frame rate didn't bother me one bit really. The 3d effect like waveboy said was amazing and very well done for this style of a game. I like how it still has that metroid feel to it while giving you a greater challenge. I checked the moves list on my second play through and oh my there is a ton! Definitely day one for me now and as for floaty jumping I done really see it waveboy. It's suits this style of game better since its not straight forward 2d. Excellent combat with good graphics. Now if the story matchs the rest we have a grade a winner!

The NES game isn't on the eShop yet (in NA), and from my ambassador experience, I didn't really care for NES games on the 3DS in general, which is why I'll start with the GB game.

I know it's not a very good entry in the series, but I'll take that into consideration while playing (and I believe the game is mostly said to be bad because of cheap difficulty, which can be alleviated with restore points).

I wasn't terribly impressed by the demo. Mostly a framerate thing with me; I like my games nice and smooth, or at least not like that. To all those that liked it regardless, this is looking pretty good, though.

Castlevania: The Adventure isn't great by any means, mostly due to the tortoise paced gameplay, but its worth trying out for the first stage's music alone.

Well after playing the demo I'm actually considering the game. It looked wonderful in 3D, though this was one of the few games where I could tell a difference in the FPS. I was surprised at how hard the game was though. The first wave of enemies murdered me but that's not to say I don't enjoy a challenge.

Castlevania: The Adventure was a total waste of money.

The demo for MoF finally hit NA this Thursday, and I have to say, I have mixed feelings. On one hand, it is one of most spectacular-looking 3DS games I've seen in a while. The FPS chugged a bit, but honestly, after playing through Code of Princess, it doesn't bother me that much. I like the more Metroid-vania feel of the gameplay but dislike the combat. Feels too much like GoW.

It looks decent, and I'd get it if there weren't so many awesome 3DS games coming out soon. I'll probably end up getting this by next year.

Hi guys, I'm new here. Picked up a 3DS in December and been checking out Nintendolife frequently since then.

Played a bit of the demo and I have mixed feelings. Graphics and atmosphere are absolutely beautiful, the use of 3D is great, I like the fact that the combat is pretty tough, but the controls definitely feel clunky, especially the double-jump mechanics, and the frame rate is an issue. Also, it seems like the game gives you a ton of combat options but repeated button mashing seems to do the job on most enemies. I was looking forward to buying this game when it was released but am not sure now.

One question I had - how do you kill the Resident Evil 4-style boss on the bridge? I deplete him of all his power, but after staggering for a few seconds, he regains half his strength. Is there some sort of QTE event one needs to activate?

I'm having more fun with Castlevania: The Adventure than i did with the Mirror of Fate Demo. The Adventure may be the weakest traditional Castlevania there is, but it's still hella fun whipping the sh** out of things! It's simple, challenging, addicting and it's got a great soundtracak. :p

Now with MOF, the Stunning Stereoscopic 3D combined with the graphics and cutscenes are the only few things that have me motivated to keep on playing. the 3D effect is just SO well implemented to the point where i feel the urge to keep on going just to see the dazzling effect in action. It's possibly one of the most amazing 3D showcases on the 3DS, it's just incredibly well done. But the gameplay? Meh. As somebody who's played and beaten all of the ClassicVania games, MOF is a complete sell out and drag to play. There's a disconect when pressing a button and what your character does on screen, combo's seem to take forever and the jumping is a mixture of being floaty & sluggish. This isn't Castlevania whatsoever, this is reaching to the trendy modern Lord of Shadow and God of word beat em up crowd in 2D form. It's not an evolution to the Castlevania series like IV was to III: Dracula's Curse, this is a completely different experience all together. Plus, the amount of moves you gradually earn seem completely uneccessary....It's just too much.

If MOF didn't support '3D' i wouldn't give it the time of day. But as is, i dread the thought of slowly trudging through this unresponsive truck controlling 2D Beat em' up. -_- Here's hoping a developer who 'gets it' like WayForward comes and saves the day and gives us a REAL Classicvania game ala' Castlevania V. A Spiritual successor to SCIV would be ace. I totaly miss dangling my Vamp' whip around while eating up every little ghoulish projectile in sight! :p
