Topic: Broken Street Date

I was going through wal-mart today, and I found copies of Madden, Sims 3, Ghost Recon, and Rayman 3D for sale. I bought Rayman as evidence, but is there a way to report retailers breaking street date? I'm unsure if it gains me anything, but I want to do the right thing.

That doesn't make a lot of sense.....if there aren't any 3DS's for sale, what do they stand to gain from doing this? Angry customers that are confused why the cartridge won't fit in their DS systems?

Out of those titles, I would have gotten Ghost Recon myself.

They gain early sales that normally would have gone to other stores. Say I pre-ordered at best buy. I see the game I want in wal-mart early. I buy the game there so I don't have to deal with major lines. I just get my console and the game is in my pocket. Best buy lost a sale and wal-mart got it.

Rayman and Ghost Recon were actually supposed to be out today. I don't suppose it really matters if they put the other ones out early if it's not like they're actually selling the 3DS system to play them on. Since games are usually released on Tuesdays, they probably just didn't realize those games weren't supposed to be out till Sunday.

Technically, the only game allowed to be out now is Ridge Racer 3D. Today's its release date.

According to the data on gamefaqs there were supposed to be 5 games released today, and I see people on the boards there talking about picking up Rayman at various places today.

It's normal. When a new system launches, some games get released before the system does. I remember seeing Banana Blitz in stock before the Wii came out. It happened with the Wii and it's happening with the 3DS.

I just bought Rayman 3D from Gamestop this morning. This is the official release date, no stores have broken street date by selling the Ubisoft titles and Ridge Racer.

On amazon, it says those games are no longer for preorder, probably because games by 3rd parties usually come out on Tuesdays, and they want their games to be out by launch to lure in helpless customers.

So it's too late for me to cancel my preorder? I really don't know what to do. Should I wait until your review comes out, or cancel, and then wait for your review? I'm so confused....

Well I don't see a big shortage in the game, so if you're worried just cancel it and then when you read some reviews, go grab it. You can always move the money over to another game, even if the game is already released.

I never understood that whole thing about breaking a street date. Who cares if they sell the game a few days early?
The store still gets their money so what's the big deal? What if someone buys a game an hour before midnight on the day before release? Is that going to really matter?

All right then. I'd just feel better if I backed out of the "red zone" for a while until the quality of the game is confirmed. Thanks, Corbs!

Speaking of which when are you planning on reviewing rayman 3d? According to NGamer, it's pretty piss-poor, and with Splinter Cell and Asphalt 3d.

@Link79: as explained above, it has to do with it being fair for all retailers involved. If people are waiting in line for a midnight release for (insert game here) but hear that a store down the street is already selling it at 8pm, they're gonna head for that other store en masse and purchase the game there... that means lost sales for the store(s) who are adhering to the release date set by the publisher (or whatev').

Well since this is a thread about the subject, according to a Best Buy employee, the 3DS costs a whopping total of $9,999 in the store's computer until March 27th. This is so just in case Nintendo raises the price before launch, there would be no possible way they could under charge for the system. (I don't get it either) However, he then told me if a Best Buy broke the Street Date and sold the 3DS before the 27th it would cost $9,999. So if you see a 3DS being sold at Best Buy earlier, good luck affording it.

I'm not sure what Ngamer were looking for, but I've played the hell out of the Dreamcast version and this is looking and playing quite well to me so far. Long way to go, but I'm just not seeing all of the complaints they brought up. Of course that's not to say that things can't go downhill further on, who knows. To each his own, though.

And yes, I'll have the review of Rayman 3D up on Friday morning.
