A new 3DS game titled Blast Ball debuted during the Nintendo World Championships. No word on whether it's a retail or download title or who is developing it yet.
It's definitely some kind of metroid project that turned into blast ball. Everything from the sound effects, animations, and the entire visor/HUD is completely ripped from hunters or prime 2 multiplayer.
We don't know anything about the game though, it looks like it'd be a fun multiplayer experience if there is multiple game modes and a good single player, but it unforunately is not metroid so I'm not too hyped. Although I do expect that old "scrapped" sketch of Samus's polygonal armor to somehow be DLC or amiibo content in this game.
Would love to see this somehow become metroid related either with hidden themes, or story based like from another planet. (Their armor kinda reminds me of rundas's)

While I do like the reveal of Blast Ball and think it could be a very addictive game, the 3DS's Splatoon in a sense, I will dismiss the game out of disappointment if this started as a Metroid Prime Hunters follow-up, if not a sequel. The only thing that could get me interested again, if that is in fact the case, would be Metroid Prime Hunters-related DLC for this game. Right now, I have hope that this is an original IP that didn't take Metroid's stage and that a new Metroid will be shown Tuesday.

It's probably the guys behind Prime Hunters, if I had to guess. If it was Retro, we would've heard about it I think.
Which means IU's GOTY has arrived.
I wouldn't take Blast Ball from NST if they could have made a sequel to Metroid Prime Hunters instead. I'm not sure who developed this, but for some reason I feel it's Next Level Games. If this is from NST, and there's no mention of MPH-related DLC for mechs, it would be difficult for me not to be pissed.

Contrary to what most people are saying, I suspect this game is actually a sign that main series Metroid is on the horizon, not that they took development time away from them to make this. This game has a "here's something to tide you over until the next main game" vibe going on, it doesn't seem like it took them a lot of time to work on and it's rare that Nintendo makes a spinoff game like this and don't end up releasing a main game soon after.
Between this and the Super Metroid speedrun it definitely feels like they're trying to hype people up for Metroid.
