Topic: 3DS outer camera problem

My outer camera doesn't work in the camera app, AR-games or in Face raiders. It also freeze the camera app. The weird thing is that it works in games like Pullblox and Mario Tennis when i scan the QRs. So I guess the problem is software related. The inner camera is working perfectly. I've had this problem for quite some time now, but I have not been bothered by it because it's not important to me. Hope someone can help

I had this problem with the first 3DS that I picked up on launch, and got it replaced the same day because of this fault.
It seems to be an incredibly rare occurrence but it happens. When it happened to me the camera barely displayed odd green dots or lines on a black screen.

The screen just shows a completely black picture. Don't think i'm going to bother with replacing it. And one thing I forgot to say is that the problem has not always been there. When I bought it last summer in Sweden(i'm from Norway), i remember playing Face raiders and trying out the AR-cards and there were no problems with the camera. Cannot remember when I first discovered the problem, thinks its about half a year ago.

This also happened to my on my original 3DS. It worked out of the box for a little while, then it just would not work at all after, forcing me to use the inner camera if I wanted to take any half decent pictures with it. It was like it'd just freeze up whenever I loaded the camera. It probably was just one of the several flaws from the beginning batches.

Luckily I've since moved onto my 3ds XL and have yet to have the same problem.

i have only got the 3ds camera problem ive been hearing it was the last update i don't think that is true as my 3ds camera was still working after that. i have dropped my 3ds many times but i think it was the last time that caused it and i have got rain on it to so maybe that to. my other two ideas of what's happened are do you remember flip phones after a while opening and closing them caused damage to the wires then the screen went black well that could be the problem and as for theory number 2 sony have sent out ninjas to sabotage our 3ds's when we were sleeping. so what i have summed up is impact damage, water damage or damage to the wires oh and ninjas while i am quite sure its been damaged by something me or my friends have done there is still hope that the new update may fix it but i think unlikely.if not i will gladly pay the £170 that i paid for mine with resident evil revelations but as my games and all still work im not to bothered my 3ds is still awesome hurry up monster hunter 4.

Supermonkey it could be damage, but I think it's software related for me because scanning QR-codes(with outer camera) inside games work. The Augmented reality also crashes after awhile + the camera app crash. The problems don't bother me either I don't use the camera(just annoying). Hope Denpa Men is gonna work when it comes to Europe. Thanks for all replies:)

The problem with the cameras on the 3DS XL, however, is that the poor resolution is more obvious. I don't take pictures with it any more because they just look like a pixelated mess.

Old comment, but still... The real problem with the 3DS photos is that for some reason they believe that filling the screen is more important than showing you the whole picture you're taking.

They strectch the image so it fits the whole 3DS top screen and, not only it ends up being a pixelated mess, it ends up hiding like half of the image in the proccess. In reality the photos looks rather nice (which you can see if you use the circle pad to de-zoom in the album or viewing them on a computer)...

The sad part is that you can't de-zoom while taking the photos, so it is impossible to correctly aim the camera at anything.

Bloop.

Ok So, I had my 3dsXL for 4 years. It has never done anything to me. My hinge broke so we fixed that. On Animal Crossing New leaf on the qr code machine its it's the same thing. Even when I go on the camera app it's all black. If you took your 3ds apart to fix it, you might of unplugged something. My dad will look at it soon. Wish you the best of luck!
