Yeah, I can't believe how awful the online is. Messaging is an absolute must. :/

The online is not awful. I do think they should update the status message to like a 140 character twitter thing.

When the only means of communicating with your friends is by typing a 20 character status and selecting your favorite game, then yes, it's awful.

Yea but all you really need to say is play "this"(random game name) All I am saying is it is a better experience from before not awful.

We have a saying about these parts: you can shine a piece of poop all you like, but at the end of the day it's still poop (slightly censored for decorum).

The 3DS' online is shiny poop, but it's still poop.

Yea but the 3ds online is better then the ds online. Your just comparing to other forums. Yes it isn't perfect but it's not crap. Everything can always be improved.

I'll repeat it for you: "Shining a piece of poop still leaves you with poop."

The 3DS online is better than the DS online. It's still terrible. I'm not comparing it to anything when I say that - it's clunky to use, slow (just try downloading Gameloft's 3D golf game), and light on features.

If I compare it to the PSN/ XBLA/ Steam, it's even more embarrassing. I just hope that Nintendo's sudden understanding that they need to do things better results in a quick firmware update with about 20 missing critical features.

I don't understand the argument about Nintendo policing people and worrying about kids seeing inappropriate things. People want to chat with their friends, nobody is asking for chat roulette.

Yea I know but of least they are trying they could have just sat there doing nothing. But I feel it is faster. That download would have taken way longer with ds. Although playing Mercenaries and Street Fighter against people is faster I remember playing mario kart and Metroid prime and it taking forever to connect.

@TheGameMonkey26: Something being more awful than something else doesn't affect how awful that something else is.

The 3DS's online system is all but useless. I consider that awful, tyvm.

Yea but I was saying they are doing better then before. It's called improving. Maybe not fast enough but at least they are trying. Just calling something crap won't make it better.

What would you like us to do? I could produce a 100-page report on exactly how Nintendo needs to change its approach to online (and you all know I could do just that ), and send it to Nintendo, and it would be ignored. I could post it here on these forums and it would be even less likely to be noticed.

I know this is off-topic, but every time I see this thread in the home page, I read it as "3DS needs massaging capabilities" and I always think, "Yes! That would be awesome!". Kinda stupid, I know.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.

He's right. It's awful. It's entirely devoid of almost any features whatsoever. Nintendo has some weird hatred for online gaming. They added the least functionality they possibly could get away with to be considered having "online play". Compared to any other game system, even my ipod touch, the online is the worst currently in existance.

I so would by one 3DS for each hand and foot if it did that.

Hand massages are epic.

All I am saying is that they are doing better. I am not saying you have to do anything.

I just find it very strange what they did with the 3DS friends list, what's the point of even having one if you can't send message or game invites? It's only a slight improvement in the fact that one friend code works with all games.

The fact that they even still have friend codes is retarded. Microsoft had them beat for online features in 2004. They need to catch up. I don't understand how they can think their online is acceptable when they see the other systems that have been out in the past ten years. They need to quit playing overprotective mom and worry about being fun.

Fuzzy

Get background downloads and a shopping-cart style of doing multiple downloads without having to slowly go through each item separately. I thought that would be a given...

Anyway, communications with your friends list defintely needs to be improved (just to stay on topic ).

i wouldnt go as far as saying pictochat was great. but at least, it was something.
we have none yet on the 3ds, else than a simple VERY short sentence. barely.
we need a chat accessible like the note or the web browser is.

but i remember that nintendo said they were scared of phallic words or other things youre supposed to say in church only. maybe thats why we dont have it. kids hear them all over the school or tv shows, but at least, their 3DS wont have them words.

Nothing is Church only, they can have a option in parental control to censor stuff based on age of the 3DS using kid. Otherwise they shouldn't care because, the resposibility for the kids is left up to the parents. Its the adult's job to set good examples for kids in reality and the internet. So no cursing when kids might be around is a good idea. Besides curse words are not mature at all.
