Topic: 3DS Freezing Issues

Well, I was playing OoT for a good 3 hours, managed to get through Ganondorfs castle in Master Quest withot saving, I got half way through a cutscene and suddenly... it stops. I tried going back to the Home Menu and didn't work. I turn it off and then... it freezes on the Home Menu...

It's also frozen on Resident Evil Mercs, Ghost Recon and 3DS Sound.

Anyone else getting freezing issues (or where it doesn't respond)? Getting freezing problems this early on is not good...

Corbs

I've had my SD card corrupt on me twice and wouldn't load up the eShop until I re-formatted the SD card. You'll know it's coming when your eShop games on the Home Menu began to get moved around with empty spaces in between them. At least it's a simple fix, but these little bugs are beginning to get a bit tiresome.

Plain old gamer :)

I haven't had any (even when playing games lots of people say froze for them), but it's still worrying. Especially when updates seem to make it less stable. It's the same reason I turned off Windows Updater on my computer once I found a setup that worked for me
Except with one singular chipset and hardware setup, you should work out the f'ing bugs with updates....

Okay, sure, freezing issues might be a common problem. But having to put up with losing your data and switching your console off/on again to go through the same tiresome crap you just did takes the... sometimes.

I hope Nintendo fix these bugs before they start releasing anything else, I'd hate to see "3DS - Home of bugs, glitches and crashes"

@Deeso I've never updated my computer, most updates from Microsoft usually make it worse, ESPECIALLY Vista I never want to see Vista again...

You're telling me? Man, when I got my HP powerhouse tower it was a Vista-built machine, but the built-in soundcard (especially made for Vista) didn't work. Had to get 3rd party drivers made for XP to get it running. Then the blue screens started. YARGH!

Anyways, back on-topic, how much play time did everybody get before they started getting crashes? I only got like 4 hours into Shadow Wars before DoA showed up and I plowed 11hrs into that, and I have maybe 4 on Mercs. Not a single crash. Not to mention the other games I got before the update, or the DSiWare I've been playing

I haven't had a single problem with my 3DS yet, although I have heard of other people with problems. Sorry to you.

I'm sure Nintendo will fix it with an update soon if they realise what's going on, similar to what happened with Ridge Racer with the update. Phrehaps you could contact Nintendo and get it repaired under warranty???

I haven't noticed any freezing in any retail games. On the initial setup of my 3DS, it froze up. However, I haven't noticed any freezing lately. I imagine most freezing issues have been fixed through software updates.

I don't think its down to the console itself because I have the same problem with GoldenEye on the Wii, it freezes sometimes, but its fine with other games.

Same with the 3DS, I haven't had problems with other games, but it seems to be due to either too much on screen at one time, or it slows down then freezes.

When playing Shadow Wars, you can notice some serious slow down at times... after 30 minutes or more it freezes forcing you to do a force shutdown.

@Deeso I've had 2 computers delete themselves before... they crashed because of some error or something with the software, reboot it and it starts deleting ALL of its software going back to its original factory settings. I've lost mountains of data due to this.

Vista is THE worst operating system to ever go on market.

Had a freeze on a german advertisement video in nintendo video and just a few mins ago another freeze in the first level of little red zombie barbeque (graphics stopped working, but background music remained). i hope thats not going to be standard on other titles originally produced for dsi.

Grammar errors? We could use the german language instead of the english one of course - do you dare? ;)

I had a freezing issue, and one thing that actually solved it was changing the SD card format to FAT32 (it's in FAT16 by default). You don't loose anything if you do it correctly, which involves:

  • turning off the 3DS (not just putting it into sleep mode)
  • pulling out the SD card and opening it with a PC (any SD reader will do)
  • copying EVERYTHING from the card into a separate temporary folder on your hard drive
  • formatting the card with the PC, choosing FAT32 as the file system (all options, like block size, on default)
  • copying all the data from temporary folder back to the SD card
  • putting the card back into 3DS
  • profit

Well, sorry if I'm talking obvious stuff here, but despite this being ridiculous - it works. There seems to be some kind of bug in 3DS firmware that occasionally crashes the system while accessing the SD card formatted in FAT16, and 3DS does that very often in background. It does not void your warranty or anything, so you might try that. ;] I don't remember loosing any data because of this...

I haven't had freezing during games, but sometimes when I put my system to sleep it won't wake up when I open it. It seems to be some sort of freeze, because I notice the wireless light stops blinking and won't turn off if I try to turn wireless off like you normally can during sleep. It's happened maybe 5 times since I've had the system.

Hmm... is it me or is the 3DS starting to sound... well, more and more crappy? Just hope they fix these bugs, they may be minor but they're getting very tiresome.

I haven't had alot of issues with freezing at all, besides when I go on Faceez from DSiWare, and click the background option, I get a white screen and I'm forced to power the system off and reboot. I'm not sure, but I will try to redownload it.
