Guys, please. Don't just parrot BS from other sites. One of the reasons I like Nintendolife is there's at least some cultivation in terms of what you report. Seeing stuff like this, though? It's embarrassing. Read the original article - there's not a single shred of anything newsworthy in the whole thing starting from the unbelievably slippery first sentence.
So they've worked out (9 months after everybody else) what the problem was, and to make sure the same thing doesn't happen again, they've decided to open this year in the same fashion as last year except with even fewer games. Brilliant. Hats off to you, boys.
I didn't finish reading this article. The reason being less my excitement over Destiny (not) coming to Switch and more the horribly tortured sentences the whole thing consists of. Did people seriously read that to the end? Ghastly writing.
Did I misread? It says 260 signatures, right? These sorts of petition ''stories'' are pointless fluff even when there are tens of thousands of signatories, when there are 260...
@scully1888 Just to be clear, I have no issue whatsoever with your review or the score. If you experienced those issues, the score looks to be totally justified.
I'm only taking issue with the idea that a reviewer's job is simply to say whether they ''liked'' something or not. Maybe that's all you think it is - and that's fine - but I think most readers (and probably most reviewers) think it ought be something a little more.
@scully1888 Seriously? Your job is just to '' say if you liked something''? That's not how I ever understood reviewing anything works. Of course, that's going to affect what you say, but surely a professional reviewer ought to be able to separate their own preferences from clever game design, good production values etc. No? Very odd comment.
Hmm. Really don't see anything - even in the review itself - that justifies that score. It's fun, don't get me wrong, but...no matches online, annoying dialogue that takes too long to skip through in arcade mode, uninspired backgrounds, repetitive enemies, poorly identified bullets, dying without knowing what hit you...the faults mount up and, while the core gameplay is fine, there's nothing that elevates it to a position where the faults can be overlooked. 6/10 for me, 7 at a push.
@Dualmask All that's left is going back for scores and increased difficulty? That's what a shmup essentially is. Sounds like you just don't like shmups. I don't mean that in an elitist way, it's simply that these games are designed to be finished in a single sitting and replayed for score and if you don't like that aspect, the genre's probably not for you. Ikaruga, Psyvariar Delta, Gunbird (and the other Psikyo shmups), Danmaku Unlimited 3, Black Bird, Thunder Force IV; these are just some of the classic and modern classic shmups on Switch. All of them can be 'finished' in an hour and most in under 30 minutes.
The fact you like Sky Force shows this even more. It's most definitely NOT a shmup done right. It's a shmup done appallingly badly. You might think it's a game done right - and it's not my business to disagree with you there - but as a shmup, it's one of the worst this system has to offer. I'd barely even call it one, to be honest.
(Please don't interpret this as me questioning your taste at all. I'm not. I'm just saying your problems with this game are an inherent part of its genre.)
This does seem a rather odd review. The score, of course, but also the fact most of it reads more like a game description than a review. And very, very odd to call this short. It's a good length for a bullet hell and there is in fact an unusually high amount of replayability with: unlocking playable characters, extra level / difficulty, buying accessories, unlocking character models / music tracks, achievements, online scoreboards, and, of course, going for that 1cc.
I'd only give the game a 7, I think, but that's because of other flaws none of which are mentioned in this review: slightly uninspired stages / enemies before the bosses, confusing mix of bullets and pickups, poor implementation of scoreboards (both local and online), lack of clarity on some unlocks. I know we can skip the 'cutscenes' with '-', but I think there should have been an option to just turn them off, too, so you can play straight through the game.
Also surprised to see the game's mechanics be criticized over accessibility. I mean, if this was 1990, maybe, but compared to the likes of FIFA or any modern FPS, these are still very simple and, in fact, I consider the depth and tactical usage they offer to be one of this game's strongest plus points.
Agree with some others: this doesn't read like a review by someone who knows the genre. Shame.

@KDR_11k It does, but I've tried it a half dozen times now and never found a match.

First time I ever backed a project on Kickstarter. Can't wait to try it out when it ships next month.
