Re: Nintendo "Unwilling" To Confirm If 88-Year-Old Grandma Has Her Own Character In Animal Crossing

jebug29

There are a lot of legal issues surrounding the usage of someone's name or likeness in a creative work and especially in video games. For example, if Nintendo announced it was true, the real Audie could possibly sue them for using her likeness without permission if she wanted to. She wouldn't be likely to win, but a lawsuit even being created would create bad press and have legal resources wasted.

CERO (the ESRB/PEGI of Japan) actually has a rule against using people with a real-world background in fictional media, which is why in Persona 2's remake, Adolf Hitler donned sunglasses and his name was changed to Fuhrer. If Nintendo truly did name the character after grandma Audie, it would explain why the character's Japanese name is simply Monica (plus I doubt she's all that famous in Japan anyway lol). It's really likely just a sweet thing that the translation team made happen in the Western release, and instead of Nintendo skirting around and saying "The character was not created as an homage to Buchanan (but the English translation team paid homage)" or "Although the character was not named after Buchanan, we are happy to have dedicated fans of all ages", they'd rather just leave it unsaid for fans to be happy.

Re: Poll: Animal Crossing: New Horizons - What Would You Like To See Added In An Update?

Two big things: better USB keyboard support and support for longer messages online. 20-25 characters a message is barely enough for Japanese, and definitely not enough for English. Also, I can't just start typing on the keyboard like we could with City Folk. In letters, there's no way to move up and down lines with a keyboard either, so you have a really screwy experience trying to use both the controller and a keyboard.

I'd also like support for Japanese language on the keyboard switcher. I speak English and some Japanese, so it kind of sucks that I can't type with it in-game.

Re: Nintendo Switch Will Be a Single-Screen Experience

I'm not at all disappointed. The Wii U had a great deal of potential for the second screen feature; however, it was severely underused. It's also being less and less effectively used on the 3DS. I just won't miss it.
I don't think the NS is going to be a 3DS killer, though, so I'm going to safely assume that I can still have whatever dual-screen experiences there are to be had on my n3DS.

Re: Nintendo of America's Damon Baker Explains the New Nintendo 3DS XL Decision and Desire to Engage With the Community

What's worse is that in the article he even acknowledged that there was a lashback against the decision to JUST release the 3DS XL in the US. They don't care.

It's technically not even the XL version anymore - it's the American standard 3DS because the other versions are no longer sold. I'm really close to just buying the XL version.

Honestly, I would probably prefer the larger screen if the screen resolution was actually any greater than that on the original 3DS. If you switch from a regular-sized 3DS to an XL, the screen is repulsive, at least to me.

Re: Nintendo of America Issues Non-Statement on the Region Skipping the Smaller New Nintendo 3DS

Well this is a complete turn-off for me.

For one, they aren't selling the one model that I was planning on buying at launch. I wanted the smaller version; the big one isn't as portable, doesn't look as nice, and the old 3DS XL hurt my eyes more than the regular 3DS. (coming from a person with 20/20 vision)

For another thing, even if I did want to buy the XL (which I don't and will not), I'd want the metallic blue version. Every DS I have bought (except for the original DS) has been a blue of some sort. I had a blue DS lite, a metallic blue DSi, and an aqua blue 3DS, as well as a blue 3DS XL (which I was planning on trading in).

In short, I'm POed and Nintendo isn't getting my money.
