Re: Atlus Wants To Know If You Would Like More Nintendo Switch Games

diastelo

I've never played the Persona series (it's possible I never will, unless I buy a different console apparently), but I've played and loved so many Atlus games on DS and 3DS, and with the pending 3DS eShop shutdown, I want to see them get rereleased on something current gen before they're lost to time. So many of their titles were delightfully quirky. I feel like they took some risks with the games they published.

The Etrian Odyssey series was amazing, for example. You got to draw a map! On the screen! You really were exploring a labyrinth!

Re: Poll: Do You Have An Issue With Xenoblade Chronicles' Accents?

diastelo

@Mattock1987 In case you're curious, that's a specific quirk, called upspeak/uptalk. As an accent feature, it's mostly west coast/California and outside of that area usually only seen in young people. I'm on the east coast and almost never hear it in real life. It's been ridiculed as "valley girl speak" most of my life.

Re: Review: UnderMine - A Supremely Refined And Downright Delicious Roguelite

diastelo

This game is a lot of fun, buuuut, it crashes somewhat frequently (with the dreaded "this software unexpectedly closed" error). The auto save feature takes some of the pain out of things, but it's about one crash per half hour, generally when switching levels. The developer said they're working on a fix, but that was much earlier in the year. I hope they release a patch soon, the game is otherwise a lot of fun!

Re: Scalpers Set Their Sights On The Switch OLED As Pre-Orders Go Live In The US

diastelo

Just a reminder that eBay does have policies in place that prohibit selling any device that can't ship in 30 days. October is months away still. Feel free to report any listing you see if you want to irritate some scalpers. I don't know why eBay doesn't try to automatically do this themselves.

Choose "Listing Practices" --> "Inappropriate Seller Terms" --> "Presale"

Re: Physical Version Of Untitled Goose Game Won't Include Multiplayer On The Cart

diastelo

It's disappointing that the multiplayer won't be available on the cart, but as for other physical games and updates, isn't that how all consoles were not that long ago? If a developer wanted to add a feature or bug fix in after the publication, there wasn't a way to do it.

At least games GET updates now. I have a clear memory of hitting a memory leak in a Mario Sunshine level. The game slowed to an unbelievably slow crawl and became unplayable, I had to restart the console. I don't remember how I triggered it, but Game Cube games didn't have an update mechanism. That bug is still there today.

Your physical games will still work several years from now. They might be buggier than they ought to be, but they'll still load. If it's a game that you care about and there are updates, you should try to download the updates to your system while you can, but fortunately there are few truly unplayable games without updates.

Re: T-Mobile US Joins the Pokémon GO Craze With Offer of A Year of Unlimited Data for the App

diastelo

@Uberchu, this is actually fairly easy to do in practice. At T-Mobile's level, they can see all Internet and data requests passing through their servers. Cell phone towers need to be able to read a unique identifier off of your phone that allows your device to access the Internet at all. Combine the two, and they'll be able to track how much Pokemon Go traffic you use and subtract it from your data total.

Now, for T-Mobile's permanent data saving offers, like their ads that say they won't charge you data for music streaming access, they can afford to do this because they've worked with Pandora and other similar web sites to cache the content in a way that doesn't cost T-Mobile as much money and bandwidth to offer it to their customers as it would cost another provider that didn't do any caching.

Re: Guide: Improve Your Wii U's External Hard Drive Performance By Disabling Sleep Mode

diastelo

@Nico07 I know. To give some background, I was using a Y cable on a USB powered WD drive (it's a model with no external power). Then I started having problems with the hard drive disconnecting and freezing the system. Since I've switched to using the usb wall charger, I haven't had freezes. However, I think my real problem is what this article solves, turning off sleep mode for the hard drive.

Re: Guide: Improve Your Wii U's External Hard Drive Performance By Disabling Sleep Mode

diastelo

@Sean_Aaron I had the EXACT same problems with VC games and would lose hours of progress. Since they're so small, I moved all of them to the internal drive in case that was the problem and then, because I was extra paranoid, used a y-cable to hook it up to a usb wall charger too. I don't know if both steps were necessary, but I'll definitely be disabling the sleep mode as described in this article.

Re: Review: Story of Seasons (3DS)

diastelo

@Leafgreenmary
I received mine April 1st with Prime shipping (it shipped March 30). If your order already shipped or says it is preparing to ship, I can't see why you wouldn't have the bonus, especially as I only preordered my copy in February of this year. Amazon has run out of preorder bonuses for me without warning before (like with Lego City Undercover), but usually only when I ordered sort of last minute the week before the release.

Don't be alarmed if the box is really small. The plushie is only about the size of an egg. It's super cute.

Re: Review: Story of Seasons (3DS)

diastelo

@HandheldGuru97

Yeah, I got it through Amazon. I wonder if it started to melt in their warehouse or if the shrinkwrap job to get the preorder bonus attached melted it. I have the box airing out on the counter at home.

Re: Review: Story of Seasons (3DS)

diastelo

This is such a strange nitpick. I got mine bundled with the preorder bonus, which was shrinkwrapped to the game. The plushie is fine, but the plastic covering looks melted on the back and when I opened it up, it has the WORST chemical smell. Like, wood varnish bad or epoxy glue bad. I like to display my game cases, but I think this one is going in the trash if it doesn't dissipate soon.

Re: New Nintendo 3DS XL Charging Cradle Goes Up for Sale on Official Store in North America

diastelo

Of course they put it up now, after I just ordered one from Japan last week for $3 more.

That link takes you to the Canadian order page. Here's the link to the US order page: https://store.nintendo.com/ng3/us/po/browse/productDetailColorSizePicker.jsp?categoryNav=false&navAction=jump&navCount=7&atg.multisite.remap=false&productId=prod560458&categoryId=cat550076

In case anyone is curious, these don't come with wall plugs. So if you want a separate plug to power this cradle, add a power cable to your order. It doesn't affect the $5 US shipping rate.

Re: New Nintendo 3DS Pre-Orders Emerge at GameStop, Best Buy, EB Games and GAME

diastelo

I went to Game Stop (US) this morning to preorder the 3ds XL Monster Hunter special edition. They confirmed that they won't do in store pickups, but they were able to scan my member card and do the website order for me in my presence. Shipping for release day delivery was $17, so I passed and got the free value shipping. I can wait a week.

Re: You Can Now Purchase Select Digital Titles on Nintendo's Official Site

diastelo

I'm chiming in again to add a few more details. One, the website does not apparently see your eShop credit, which is disappointing and something I hope they fix (unless it's only a problem for preorders). Two, you're still limited to Mastercard or Visa. I wasn't able to use a Discover credit card to make the purchase.

Re: You Can Now Purchase Select Digital Titles on Nintendo's Official Site

diastelo

This satisfies two wants for me, being able to preorder digital titles from the eShop and not having to use the appalling on screen keyboard on my 3DS to enter my card number.

I just preordered Fantasy Life, a 3DS title, and can confirm that the email message I received specified the following:

  • A download code will be sent to my email on the day of release, starting at midnight
  • My card will not be charged until the code is sent.
  • Preorders can be canceled.
  • Preorders can be gifted (implying that the game will NOT automatically download onto my system).

Until I get home, I won't be able to confirm if it knew I had eShop credit or not, because I can't remember if I used it all up last week. I'd like to know if the web store interface works with the deluxe digital promotion. I suspect it would, but it wasn't specifically addressed.

Re: Hardware Review: 3DS Circle Pad Pro XL

diastelo

@Galactus eForCity and Everydaysource both sell replacement styluses for the 3DS XL through Amazon. The eForCity ones I got are retractable "metal" ones, and the Everydaysource ones are randomly chosen colors in a 12 pack. Both fit perfectly in the slot.
