What's cooler than owning a phone capable of wireless charging? Using it with a wireless charging mat with Sonic's face on, that's what.
Yes, a new collection of official Sega wireless charging mats have hit the market thanks to Numskull Designs, and they're available to pick up right now from Sega's store (visit here for UK, and here for the rest of Europe).
There are seven designs available in total, with three consoles (Saturn, Dreamcast, Mega Drive), three controllers (the same three, naturally), and a more generic Sonic the Hedgehog design.
They all cost £19.99 / 19,44€ and are compatible with a range of wireless-enabled devices from the likes of Apple, Samsung, and Nokia. For peace of mind, they also feature a "non-slip rubber base" to keep them firmly in place on your desk.
Any takers? Which of those consoles is your favourite? Let us know in the usual place.

Honestly? Very cool.
My old phone doesn't support this method of charging anyway, but does this sort of merch happen often, charging mats with special designs?
Those are really great. I hope they come to the US at some point.
Dreamcast controller yes please!
They all look cool. Lovely!
You can charge things wirelessly now? What, How? That doesn't even make sense...
Even cooler if they could charge controllers. But they'll make phone-shaped charging mats for that. It only makes sense.
Okay... I really, really need an N64 pad like this. I need it!
@Expa0 Surprisingly, it's actually a really old idea that's been worked on for nearly 200 years. You've probably heard of and seen Tesla coils, they were a basic version of it but they just openly beamed electricity through the air in potentially fatal ways. Wireless energy was also shown at the World Fair in 1930s. During World War 2, scientists worked on doing it with microwaves. It's just that it's only recently that it's become practical for personal use.
Don’t talk to me unless you got a Sega Saturn phone charger
Would have bought the Saturn one if they used USB C, but these are using Micro USB for some reason.
Certainly with Blast Processing the Mega Drive charging mat will charge the fastest out of the 3…
They're going to need a Master System model before they launch in Brazil.
Micro USB!? In 2021!? Really!!??
Anyhow, the Dreamcast ones are HOT! 🔥
Ahhhh i thought this was Nintendo's new controller they are going to reveal 😜😜
If and when I can get these in the US, I’m for sure getting one for my desk at work! It’s slowly becoming a little Nintendo museum. It could use some nice Sega flavor to balance it all out.
Why can't I get these in the US? Bad Sega!
@ChromaticDracula Same here
@Sam_TSM Yeah, if you look closely at the dreamcast one, you can see the tension pins on top of the charging cable, not the smooth finish of USB-C, and if you squint, you can sort of make out the fact that the charging port is not symmetrical.
I kind of just wish those flat Genesis and Saturn controllers were real controllers. Maybe not that practical but I like weird controllers.
Wireless charging makes me uncomfortable. Call me a grumpy old fast I you must, but I am just fine with a regular cable.
Just make it USB-C please.
I only have one wireless charging capable thing, the case for my Samsung earbuds.
Actually my Galaxy watch too, but that came with its own charger and I think might only be for that?
Wireless charging has honestly been a gamechanger for us. The charging port on my wife's Galaxy phone has been wonky and may soon breathe its last, but the battery charges just fine on a wireless pad. I've dropped mine onto the pad when I go into the shower, just to top off the charge. It's massively convenient, and it still feels like black magic.
Totally down for a Dreamcast pad if they come to the US. I would have liked a Game Gear one, though. Sonic on Game Gear is peak Sega.
@Sam_TSM Just from zooming the pictures it appears to be micro. Could be wrong, but it looks like micro to me.
If it is micro, I wouldn’t trust the device altogether. Probably means they just got a great deal on some left over parts from a cheap Chinese factory and slapped Sega stuff on it for casing.
Need this in the U.S. 😭
@GumbyX84 its not in america because its made by sega of europe, not sega of america
they are two separate companies
@MaxlRoseGNR the micro usb doesnt matter so much since you connect it once and then you left it connected forever....
