prob my fav megaman game after megaman X and mm2. 5 was sooooooooo good. yeah, it's often poorly reviewed. they're just missing out. this game is a ton of fun
yeah, this game rocks... haven't made it too far but i'm loving it. i always used to think that it was wayyyyyyyy better than zelda 2. not as grandiose in scope and the graphics and layout aren't as nice or intuitive but it definitely has the retro charm. i just wonder what they're going to do with the smoking guy in the shops. but yeah, if this is released, it'll definitely be one of the better games for the nes on vc
everyone always hates on this game. yeah, it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy too easy but it is fun as hell. a dumbed down final fantasy for the young crowd i guess?. but if you like dungeon crawling, this game is for you. the dungeons are pretty fun. not much as far as story goes but i still loved it back in the day (keeping in mind, i got it and finished it the weekend it came out so i have no idea how it holds up today)
4 is decent. everyone is wayyy too hard on it. imo, it wasn't as good as 2 or as epic/amazing as 5 (which is by far my fav mega man game of the original series) but it's still fun. if 5 comes out tho, you better get it. best nes mega man and prob my 2nd or 3rd fav mega man game (after MMX and possibly MMX2). i liked MM5 wayyy more than the recent mega man 9 (and MMX is practically perfection as far as mega man gaming is concerned)...
kinda strange to say but i was really hopin that mighty final fight comes out as well. i used to love that game. i hope that gets a vc release...
that said, i'll prob buy either this one or ff2 depending on what's i feel like when it's time to pick up another game. i do love beat 'em ups and let's face it, capcom were def one of the best at the genre...
apparently, part of the reason it was so popular in its day (yup, it actually was popular in japan... they'd play it a gaming tournaments in japan and stuff) was prob because many of its contemporaries (with a few extremely notable exceptions) weren't the best. a year or two later tho, shmups truly became a force to be reckoned with thanks to companies like konami, compile, irem and hudson...
wouldn't mind seein an update of this one... still, most of a previous list i made is untouched so just for fun, here, here it is again...
#1) Gargoyle's Quest 2 (nes) #2) Golden Axe Warrior (sms) #3) Terranigma (Snes) #4) Soul Blazer (Snes) #5) faxanadu (nes) (i could go for either this or (Legacy of the Wiz) #6) Golvellius: Valley of Doom (sms) #7) Lufia 2 (snes) #8) Star Ocean (snes translated) #9) ff3 (nes translated) #10) Brainlord (snes)
i doubt faxanadu will make it out unless they take out all of the people smoking. something tells me nintendo's censors are not hip to that these days...
yeah, i admittedly haven't played SotN but i've played the gba castlevanias and the GB castlevanias and the 3 nes and Castlevania4 on snes all as they came out. Super Castlevania 4, C2-Simon's Quest, Castlevania Adventure 2 (gb) and Aria of Sorrow will likely always be my fav of the series but this is def almost of that caliber of game experience. but yeah, when the two Castlevania 2's came out (Simon's Quest and Belmont's Revenge), they were freakin amazing. top of the line releases. the latter of course especially surprising considering the suckfest that was the original Castlevania Adventure for GB...
ps, i have this game and i like it a fair bit. it's kinda revered in other places on the interwebs as bing one of the better snes beat-em-ups. people seldom mention Adventures or Batman Forever, though they may both have been similar. are either of those worth playing?
i play phalanx all the time. i have to give it the "shooter with the strangest graphics" award though... seriously, check it out on the snes. sooo weird...
despite the bad reviews it sometimes gets, it's actually pretty good. i used to play it all the time as a kid. the control kinda sucks but it's fun as heck...
first of all, just wanted to say that i got revenge and s3 when they came out on my genesis back in the day. s3 is amazing. i play it all the time still to this day on my ps2. revenge, i never ever liked for some reason. which is better, this or revenge?
hey nintendo and tecmo. a word of advice: "RELEASE THE NES VERSION".
it would seriously be awesome. infinite continues so that i wouldn't have to leave my nes on for days like i did as a kid. seriously, i've been waiting for nes rygar since the concept of virtual console was announced. i'll be thoroughly irate if it doesn't come out any time soon...
of the few castlevanias i've played, this is still one of my favorites... it truly is amazing. i got it off of a friend a few years back and fell in love with the gameplay and the music. prob one of the best games on the original gameboy (along side gargoyle's quest, operation c, nemesis and gradius interstellar, metroid 2, wario land, link's awakening and the kid icarus game)...
there are some issues with copyright for the second and third double dragon games i think but everything else is probably fair game. sadly though, the better kunio games are in japanese and prob have no hopes of being translated for vc...
Yeah, one of the two non-double dragon/non-kunio kun beat-'em-ups by technos. it's supposed to be tons more fun than it looks... it's supposedly a regades meets what super double dragon was supposed to be. let's wait and see. most of the decent snes beat 'em ups were by capcom and they took place in the middle ages. i wouldn't mind playin some of those as well. honestly though, sometime in the later part of the snes life cycle, the beat-'em-up was a genre that just simply dropped off the face of the store shelves in lieu of the fighting game (which i personally never understood myself but that's just me). a few good ones were released here and there though after this drop off (x-men: mutant apocalypse and turtles in time for example). this is supposedly part of that lot as well i guess? i'm glad that technos tried to stick it out a little, though turning double dragon into a fighting game, to me at least, is almost unforgivable, despite how bad superdd supposedly is...
what can i say. the game's hard. i had it as a kid. i think i've pretty much beaten it every which way i can remember (maybe not on the hardest setting) but it was a brutal slog. when a game get's this difficult because of jumping and impossible bosses, it just becomes irritating and not fun. wait for the next two (super return of the jedi being the easiest of the bunch)
super empire strikes back is the one i always to play. i had this one and super return of the jedi. this one was super hard and jedi was super easy. honestly, this one was too difficult to be fun at times. took me a long time to defeat it but i finally beat it on every difficulty i think... get jedi. despite being the easiest of the 3, it was sooo super fun. this one kinda bogs down in some of the mos eisley stages. still, these games and the indiana jones trilogy were a real blast. i also never got a chance to play shadows of the empire for n64. i hope they release that one as well...
Gargoyle's Quest 2 (nes) and Demon's Crest (snes) are the two biggies for me... my two fav games of all time and I don't have any means of really playing either at the moment.
I always assumed that they're waiting for the possibility of releasing the original Gargoyle's Quest for some sort of GB virtual console (which I have and still play and which was probably one of the best, if not THE best early original gameboy games. It wasn't quite a launch title but when it came out, it was prob one of the best games in the whole entire GB lineup).
What I hope also, in a sidenote, is that if and when a GB virtual console comes, that the games are playable on wii as well as the ds. that would really make my day. i had a super gameboy GB to SNES thingy and I loved it. GB games still look good and play well on the big screen, trust me...
finally, we have hopes of getting some of the meat and potatoes snes rpgs. maybe they'll actually bring out some of the quintet action-rpgs as well (soul blazer and such)
not that i particularly care but i am curious if mystic quest is coming as well. it was still fun for what it was at the time. i still recommend it to anyone who has a weekend to kill
honestly, i got this game around the time that the genesis came out. it was fun but hard. i think we used a code or game genie or something to actually see the rest of the game (as it is long as hell).
but yeah, shinobi 3 = waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy more fun and an all around better game.
#1) Gargoyle's Quest 2 (nes) #2) Faxanadu (nes) #3) Guardian Legend (nes) #4) Soul Blazer (snes) #5) Terranigma (snes) #6) Castlevania 3 (nes) (i'm in north america) #7) Lifeforce (nes) #8) Gun Nac (nes) #9) Castlevania Rondo of Blood (tg 16) #10) Lightening Force (or Thunder Force 4 or whatever it's called)
honorable mentions:
Golvellius (sms), Golden Axe Warrior, Contra, Contra Hardcorps, Rygar, Battle of Olympus, Lufia 2, Thunder Force 2 and 3, Chase HQ 2 (genesis), Castlevania Bloodlines, Space Mega Force, Darius Twin, Super Mario Kart, 8 eyes, pilot wings, pinball quest, 7th saga
I'll think of more but that's what i got right now
i've always wanted to try this. i guess now i get my chance... i owned the original for my nes but that game got to be pretty damn challenging after a few levels and it never felt too rewarding either... maybe this will be better?
yeah, i mean this is supposedly quite good but there are a lot of other compile shooters that i've been hoping would also come out on vc. stuff like the aforementioned Spriggan, Power Strike 2 (SMS), Space Megaforce, Gun Nac and above all else, I really want Guardian Legend...
maybe it's just me but i always figured there are shooters and then there are gradius shooters. for me, the gradius series has probably been one of the most consistently awesome series in video game history so i, personally, can't wait for this one...
ff4 did require a little grinding as did ps4 but it was always enjoyable for me. dragon quest/dragon warrior games though... grinding in those games gets pretty brutal (granted i only played the gbc versions but after dw3/dq3, i'm done with that series...)

the hudson stuff is all gone eh... guess there's no chance for faxanadu?

my list (just for fun)
#1) Gargoyle's Quest 2 (nes)
#2) Faxanadu (nes)
#3) Guardian Legend (nes)
#4) Soul Blazer (snes)
#5) Terranigma (snes)
#6) Castlevania 3 (nes) (i'm in north america)
#7) Lifeforce (nes)
#8) Gun Nac (nes)
#9) Castlevania Rondo of Blood (tg 16)
#10) Lightening Force (or Thunder Force 4 or whatever it's called)

jaleco had the occasional decent game here and there. i hope this means we're getting pinball quest at some point in time...
Re: USA VC Update: Enduro Racer
yeah seriously. what's up with the lack of castlevania 3 in north america.
Re: M.U.S.H.A.
yeah, i mean this is supposedly quite good but there are a lot of other compile shooters that i've been hoping would also come out on vc. stuff like the aforementioned Spriggan, Power Strike 2 (SMS), Space Megaforce, Gun Nac and above all else, I really want Guardian Legend...
Re: Top 10 RPGs We Want To Come To The Virtual Console
except for the two translated games, i think the rest of the list is at least possible...
(i'll throw in Robotrek (snes) as an honorable mention
Re: Top 10 RPGs We Want To Come To The Virtual Console
thinking about it more and more.... here's my list again (just for fun)
i'm counting sidescrolling adventure games with rpg elements as well:
#1) Gargoyle's Quest 2 (nes)
#2) Golden Axe Warrior (sms)
#3) Terranigma (Snes)
#4) Soul Blazer (Snes)
#5) Faxanadu (nes)
#6) Golvellius: Valley of Doom (sms)
#7) Lufia 2 (snes)
#8) Star Ocean (snes translated)
#9) ff3 (nes translated)
#10) Brainlord (snes)
Re: Life Force
maybe it's just me but i always figured there are shooters and then there are gradius shooters. for me, the gradius series has probably been one of the most consistently awesome series in video game history so i, personally, can't wait for this one...
Re: Forgotten Worlds
you get used to it. believe me
Re: EU VC Update: Phantasy Star IV and Mega Man 3
ff4 did require a little grinding as did ps4 but it was always enjoyable for me. dragon quest/dragon warrior games though... grinding in those games gets pretty brutal (granted i only played the gbc versions but after dw3/dq3, i'm done with that series...)
Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - November 2008
Kaze no Densetsu Xanadu?
I wonder if we're any closer to faxanadu coming out?
Re: Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium
yup. as i said above... this and mario rpg are probably the best vc is gonna get...
