I was able to preorder one when I preordered Smash Wii U. So glad I did. They didn't have any that weren't preorders at my local store. Clearly I should have pre-ordered more. Oh well, its hard to tell these things in advance.
@AVahne I honestly am going to wait and see what kind of connectivity between PS4 and Vita will have in 2015 before I decide what to do with it. Connectivity between console and handheld has been disappointing with both Nintendo and Sony imho. This is an area I think Sony can differentiate itself and add enormous value. Personally I'd love to see a PS4 and Vita Slim bundle with cross platform games on shelves. Right now money is tight so I doubt I'll be able to afford many games in the next couple of months and certainly won't be able to afford the new 3DS. I am really happy with my launch 3DS though so I don't mind waiting to see what games besides Xenoblade will be exclusive the new 3DS. I pick up Smash Bros. for Wii U tomorrow and that will likely be it for a while. Are you going to get the New 3DS? It seems to be kind of an expensive upgrade to me for what it is.
@AVahne Hey man, it is awesome that you love your Vita. But most people who are into rhythm games can get any number of them on their smart phone or tablet, even though 3DS also has some great rhythm games. As for fighting games, 3DS has Smash Bros, an excellent version of Street Fighter IV, Dead or Alive Dimensions (probably one of the best entries in that series), Senran Kagura Burst, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift 2, Tekken 3D Prime edition. Without a proper fight stick I don't really play fighting games but 3DS has some good ones. I also think you are selling the 3DS's variety short. 3DS has a lot of variety, and of course one of the reasons you buy the machine is for Nintendo games. I think personally that Nintendo makes the best portable games. But I would say almost more important than Nintendo games is Pokemon. Although not my cup of tea people do love their Pokemon. But its great that you love your Vita, you just aren't in the majority and that is great. Enjoy.
@AVahne I'm sorry but it isn't just me. 3DS sales vs. Vita sales are evidence of that. I can understand getting a Vita to play JRPG's and some imports but that is it. I honestly haven't turned on my Vita in months and a lot of other people are saying the same. It just doesn't have a lot of great software if JRPG's aren't the only genre a person likes.
Nintendo needs friend lists and chat/party chat options. Period. The gamepad itself should be able to do it too. They also needed a better Mario at launch. If it had been me I would have upgraded Super Mario Galaxy 2 to HD and made it a Wii U launch title. Same for LoZ Skyward Sword.
Vita is a nice piece of hardware but it has no software. I like to have a good ten or fifteen games I really want on a console before I invest and Vita doesn't have that. Neither does Xbox One or PS4. Wii U and 3DS are great machines with incredible content. If only Nintendo would tell people.
I honestly don't think face plates and SNES colored buttons matter. They don't have an impact on gameplay and those plates are expensive. I'll be getting the XL because, like lots of others I already have the original 3DS.
Gamecube is my favorite Nintendo console thus far, not just because of the library of incredible game, but because it was the first console I bought with my own hard earned cash. And I still have my library of games.
Thought that I would come back and drop this comment since, now that Dina is banning people who funded Mighty No. 9 from following the project on Twitter because they are GamerGate supporters. They weren't posting GamerGate stuff on the Mighty No. 9 page, they just wanted to follow the Twitter of the game they funded. It proves my point that she is corrupt, unprofessional and possesses no separation between her own bizarre SJW cult and her job. This is nothing more than a massive 'I told you so' to let the more naive who thought a SJW professional victim for some reason would suddenly not be corrupt. It is a good lesson for anybody who thinks a person blindly dedicated to an illogical and condescending philosophy (no insult meant to people who study actual philosophy) cannot be expected to act rationally.
I honestly think you aren't missing much if you have a Wii U and a PC. Unlike the other consoles, Wii U actually gives me an experience that couldn't be better on PC. Hopefully more people buy a Wii U and experience some of the great titles the system has both now and down the road.
@mamp Exactly! If a person finds this too sexual they A) need to get out more, go to gym, go to park and meet some actual women who aren't video game characters and B) Check themselves and their attitudes before they judge other people. I honestly think it is a case of gamers generally not getting out enough. I mean, I love games but that doesn't keep me out of the gym, park, socializing with friends, meeting and going out with women. Of course, being one of those overly sensitive SJW types is kinda in now so this kind of over-reaction is to be expected.
I disagree with the author who claims she is 'portrayed with the ridiculous proportions we see here.' I see women with this physique and dressed like this or less at the gym all the time. Guess what? Attractive, fit women exist. Know what else? They sometimes wear tank tops and shorts, especially when exercising (fighting Kirby IS exercise.) Why is it wrong for the female form to be seen anyway? Is it because you can see the female shape? Female body is a beautiful thing. She is no more inappropriately dressed than Little Mac or the Wii Fit Trainers. Slow news day?
@Nimious He clearly states he made the game more for the masses than competition. There is no way to misinterpret that. I know the game has been popular sales wise for the console, but not at tournaments which is what I was talking about. I know because I've been in the tournament scene for a long time, since the N64 version of the game was out. You can want the game to be tournament worthy all you want but that doesn't make it so. The game is too fundamentally flawed for all the reasons I mentioned to be considered a read 2D fighting game. Action brawler, fine, but not a fighter. Enjoy watching the same few characters fight one on one on the same two or three stages. Maybe EVO will allow qualifiers for Hungry Hungry Hippo next year (only two players and no items of course.) Get pumped for that.
@PlywoodStick I think Dota 2 will overtake LoL eventually. LoL is still a fun and deep MOBA, although you have to pay cash to play it properly. Street Fighter still has the most solid mechanics in the 2D fighting scene, despite Capcom's best efforts. Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition was a huge improvement on vanilla SFIV though, I'm sure your friend would concur with that. I'm looking forward to the new Mortal Kombat though. As for Smash, it is a fun game but it will just never be played at the same level as SF, BB, or KoF. They will never play more than a couple of stages, never with items, only with a few characters and never the full four characters. Smash is a fun brawler but not much else. Maybe the new one will change that with the two online modes. As it stands there are too many random elements, that the maker of the game says he put there on purpose, to make it tight enough to be a great 2D fighter imho.
@Nimious BTW, here is a link to the article where Sakurai clarifies that Smash isn't a fighting game: http://tinyurl.com/lz4f3t6
To make it even possible to compete as fairly as the game allows basically means one or two maps and a few 'top tier' characters, and eliminating a huge swath of the game's design, namely the items. He very clearly states that he didn't build it to be a technical fighter but rather to be accessible and have an element of chance and unpredictability. So 'four player battle royale action game' as Sakurai calls it. Not a fighting game and never played fully in competition. Like to see them compete with items turned on in a stage like Ice Mountain. So instead we see a bunch of guys play Final Destination, Starfox, No Items Melee.
@Nimious It is a party game that has recently become popular but likely won't maintain that. There are not enough mechanics to make it deep enough to get enough players at the competitive level to play it. In other words, you aren't going to see Street Fighter numbers and certainly not LoL and Starcraft numbers for Smash. And I never insulted you the way you insulted me, as you got warned an extra time Real mature as usual. Stop taking everything so personally.
I was torn between so many of these games. Impossible to choose just one but I'm really enjoying Wind Waker HD right now so I went with that. No wrong choice here though.
@Nimious Why are you so angry? We have a differing opinion on a game. I don't see why you need to make it a personal agenda. We all represent gamers as a community and need to represent positively. I don't think Smash Bros. games are good competition level games and you do. Fine. No need to be insulting.
@Shpongled_Mario Competition in the living room is different imho than competition at an event. I never got the sense that it was built for serious competition due to the slew of characters that are frankly at a massive disadvantage (Pichu, ROB and Snake come to mind.) I will definitely be getting the Wii U version, would love to go online and play with you. Always happy to learn from a new challenger. Hopefully the online infrastructure is strong. I like their idea of having essentially two modes, one for arcade fun and one for people you want a challenge and stats etc. Hopefully it is more polished and balanced when compared with older iterations of the game..
@Nimious Brawl was a lot of fun. Stop hating Brawl. Brawl was super fun with friends, like all the Smash games are. Because that is what they were designed to be. Hitting one button several times in a row isn't really a combo, sorry Marth. There aren't any proper combos because there are so few buttons dedicated to attacks.
Like I said, I played in local tournaments and did quite well, but found both Melee and Brawl uninspiring and not very fun at the competitive level. Damage IS unpredictable in Melee, you can see the 'pro' player's surprise all the time when they didn't think a move should have propelled them off the map. Not just competitive matches but ALL matches have a lot of luck involved, especially when items are turned on. The 'pros' self KO all the time. Seems like if it was such a 'science' to them that self KO's would never happen. It isn't a bad thing when playing casually, it gives less experienced players big chances to win and shake things up.
Combos in Street Fighter are not simply a script, it takes excellent timing and good positioning to use them properly. There are no broken game mechanics or exploits built into the competitive Street Fighter scene, unlike Melee. All you're telling me is you don't know a thing about Street Fighter, which is fine because it definitely isn't for everyone.
I know how to pull off most of the exploits in Smash you mentioned pretty consistently but they seriously are not combos man. They are EXPLOITS. They weren't meant to be part of the game. The game isn't nearly polished enough to be taken so seriously in the competitive level. These guys can't even evolve the control of the game past a Gamecube controller. Stop being an angry, uninformed person and try Street Fighter on a good arcade stick and feel the massive difference for yourself. Stop trying to make a party game something it is not.
@Shpongled_Mario Again, a lot of readers on here are assuming that the game was designed to be competitive like Street Fighter. It isn't. It is meant to be good, casual fun in your living room with some friends. Melee is NOT a good competitive game, it is full of exploits that the dev didn't intend to impact gameplay. The nature of Smash as a game makes it's outcome much too random. I haven't played the new Smash but I'm betting it will be good fun with friends and that is about it. That's fine though, because that is all Smash ever was.
@Nimious None of the Super Smash games were ever designed to be broken down over decades in a organized competitive environment. They were, by the designers own admission, made to be accessible and fun. I mean, there aren't even any combos is SSB. It is all a single button press or right stick movement. I dabbled in Melee and Brawl local tournaments, but to be honest the games were clearly never designed for that. Few of the characters are viable competitively and frankly the outcome often comes down to luck, even among the best players, due to the unpredictable nature of damage in relation to finishing the opponent. I've beaten much better SSB players than myself just by playing defensively and edge camping them when the opportunity arises. Pros like Melee because they know the game's many exploits. I think the random luck of the game translates to excitement to a lot of people but they would really be better of just playing with their friends, as the game was intended to be. I mainly compete in Third Strike and SF IV, those game have been designed from the frame by frame level to be competitive fighters. Combos take skill and there is an accurate, quantifiable measure of your opponent's remaining life.
@Senario I get what you are saying about competitive play being their focus when playing the new Smash, but disagree that a game sees its longevity based on how much competitive players like it. Competitive players are only really interested in whether or not a game plays like the one they put the most time into, in this case Melee, because any time the new Smash differs from Melee it means they likely won't be as fast. Competitive players like Melee because it had a laundry list of exploits that made tasks faster and competitive players are all about speed. These guys basically want Melee in HD, and don't care about balance as much as they claim or accessibility for new players.
This is a horrible comparison and lacks any understanding on what addiction really is. Heroine has an undeniable, unavoidable physical impact on the user and videogames do not. Heroine induces chemical dependency, meaning that a person using heroine NEEDS to have it or they suffer withdrawal symptoms. A gamer can stop playing games and suffer no symptoms whatsoever, other than boredom of course. I could go on, but it is pathetic to compare a harmful drug that makes people extremely ill and ruins lives with a form of interactive entertainment that millions of people grew up with and are completely fine. It's as much an insult to heroine addicts as it is to gamers.
@Ryu_Niiyama I was being half sarcastic. I love the Harvest Moon games, but people these days love to find some social justice crusade bandwagon to jump on. My concern is it will be this Harvest Moon game. I agree, the whole Tomadachi Life issue was a non-issue and blown way out of proportion because of people's ignorance about what the game was. I just hope the whole Tomadachi Life fussing isn't repeated when Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley ships. Looking forward to this one, it actually does look like a lot of fun.
@maceng I'm waiting for the Wii U version of Watchdogs as well, simply for the second screen interface. Wii U gamepad will make controlling that game much easier imho.
Honestly, I think that Captain Toad game could be ridiculously fun and I'm really looking forward to it. I mean, Toad has to find treasures so he has something to give Mario in the Toad houses scattered throughout the Mario Bros. games.
@Chouzetsu I completely agree with you. Not needing to include a ton of storage on the console keeps the price down. And not only is it satisfying to own a physical copy of the game, but that is truly the only way to own it. Many digital outlets only sell you a license to use the content but it never belongs to you (like music on iTunes.) The carts are super tiny, I have no idea why they fumble with them :S
@Zodiak13 Which episodes I-VI do you love though? The new edits erase the original films out of canon as well, changing them drastically from what they were when they were originally seen (even episode one has seen some pretty drastic changes from the theatrical release.) The time to get angry about Lucas decreeing what is canon and what isn't was more than ten years ago. This is the just the latest atrocity to fans and film preservation.
@Caryslan I hate the prequels, they aren't needed and they are poorly made in almost every way. Characters are rubbish (aren't even really three dimensional characters) but I would never say it isn't canon. But I don't think the, frankly, better stories told in some of the games should be dismissed either. Remember, since the edits Han Solo in the official canon didn't shoot first. Same with the other changes. The corporately approved 'canon' doesn't include the original trilogy either, as they were seen in '77, '80 and '83. So I think we can all safely agree that Star Wars, outside of the original edits of the original trilogy, has basically been bastardized beyond belief. It's sad because the original trilogy used to be awesome. Too bad you can't get the original trilogy on bluray. So, I wouldn't really put much faith in whatever corporate calls 'canon' because they de-canonized the original films that started the fandom to begin with. The prequels can be canon but they are still garbage.
But the prequels are? I call BS if the prequels are canon but Dark Forces 2 and the Jedi Knight series isn't. How about they stop 'decreeing' what is canon and what isn't and release the theatrical versions of the original films, pre lunatic Lucas edits, on bluray.
@NavySpheal Yeah, super arrogant. And for someone who self proclaims themselves the best at SSB Melee he still loses quite often when he has the chance to compete against the best.
@Jazzer94 First of all he didn't get 5th, he tied for 5th. Honestly, he says so himself, he darts around edge guarding. Skilled players can defeat this play style and in fact did. Wobbles was especially impressive at Evo not just because of his incredible skill but also because he was using a fun character, didn't need an edge guarding Sheik to win. Sorry, but I just don't think Mew2King is nearly as good as Mew2King thinks he is. I'm sure he wins a lot of tournaments against players who just want to have fun and not hinge their entire self worth on a Nintendo game. But at a major tournament where the best players actually show up he ties for 5th. Which is good, but not as good as his royal smugness Mew2King seems to think.
Day one purchase for me. I really don't see the lack of great games for Wii U that people keep complaining about. Seems like it will be a great system with loads of great games on it.

I mainly compete in Third Strike and SF IV, those game have been designed from the frame by frame level to be competitive fighters. Combos take skill and there is an accurate, quantifiable measure of your opponent's remaining life.
Re: Interview: Pro Smash Competitors Armada & Mew2King on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Re: Interview: Pro Smash Competitors Armada & Mew2King on Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
@CaviarMeths So called 'pros' can't get over Melee and never will.
Re: British Tabloid The Sun Brands Gaming "As Addictive As Heroin"
Re: Report Suggests Bayonetta 2 Will Come With Original Bayonetta on a Separate Disc in North America
Excellent. I much prefer physical copies of games, so that bonus disc sounds great.
Re: First Impressions: Getting Our Hands Dirty in Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley
@Ryu_Niiyama I was being half sarcastic. I love the Harvest Moon games, but people these days love to find some social justice crusade bandwagon to jump on. My concern is it will be this Harvest Moon game. I agree, the whole Tomadachi Life issue was a non-issue and blown way out of proportion because of people's ignorance about what the game was. I just hope the whole Tomadachi Life fussing isn't repeated when Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley ships. Looking forward to this one, it actually does look like a lot of fun.
Re: First Impressions: Getting Our Hands Dirty in Harvest Moon: The Lost Valley
People are going to be angry when there are no same sex marriage options. Wait for it. Game looks like buckets of fun though.
Re: Guide: The Biggest Wii U and 3DS Retail Games Coming In 2014
@maceng I'm waiting for the Wii U version of Watchdogs as well, simply for the second screen interface. Wii U gamepad will make controlling that game much easier imho.
Re: Guide: The Biggest Wii U and 3DS Retail Games Coming In 2014
Honestly, I think that Captain Toad game could be ridiculously fun and I'm really looking forward to it. I mean, Toad has to find treasures so he has something to give Mario in the Toad houses scattered throughout the Mario Bros. games.
Re: Developers Weigh In On The Way Forward For Wii U
I am honestly really looking forward to Splatoon. It looks fantastic.
Re: Feature: Nintendo's Smash Bros. Invitational Could Be Just The Beginning For Contests and eSports
I would love to have the opportunity to compete at more than just smaller tournaments held and organized by local stores.
Re: Talking Point: What We Want To See From Nintendo's Next Handheld
@Chouzetsu I completely agree with you. Not needing to include a ton of storage on the console keeps the price down. And not only is it satisfying to own a physical copy of the game, but that is truly the only way to own it. Many digital outlets only sell you a license to use the content but it never belongs to you (like music on iTunes.) The carts are super tiny, I have no idea why they fumble with them :S
Re: Lucasfilm Decrees That All Star Wars Video Games Are Non-Canon
@Zodiak13 Which episodes I-VI do you love though? The new edits erase the original films out of canon as well, changing them drastically from what they were when they were originally seen (even episode one has seen some pretty drastic changes from the theatrical release.) The time to get angry about Lucas decreeing what is canon and what isn't was more than ten years ago. This is the just the latest atrocity to fans and film preservation.
Re: Lucasfilm Decrees That All Star Wars Video Games Are Non-Canon
@SparkOfSpirit Agreed!
Re: Lucasfilm Decrees That All Star Wars Video Games Are Non-Canon
Re: Lucasfilm Decrees That All Star Wars Video Games Are Non-Canon
But the prequels are? I call BS if the prequels are canon but Dark Forces 2 and the Jedi Knight series isn't. How about they stop 'decreeing' what is canon and what isn't and release the theatrical versions of the original films, pre lunatic Lucas edits, on bluray.
Re: Nintendo Lifts The Lid On Its Plans For E3 2014
It is kinda too bad that they won't have a traditional conference at E3 but if this Smash tourney is broadcast live it will bring in a ton of views.
Re: Ninterview: Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman on Mastering Super Smash Bros.
@NavySpheal Yeah, super arrogant. And for someone who self proclaims themselves the best at SSB Melee he still loses quite often when he has the chance to compete against the best.
Re: Ninterview: Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman on Mastering Super Smash Bros.
@siconlol Yep. Not very professional at all. Might be why he doesn't get a call back from Nintendo to help with the next installment.
Re: Ninterview: Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman on Mastering Super Smash Bros.
@ultimate321 Agreed, he isn't very likable at all, and also isn't as good as he thinks he is.
Re: Ninterview: Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman on Mastering Super Smash Bros.
Re: Ninterview: Jason "Mew2King" Zimmerman on Mastering Super Smash Bros.
Wow, he is pretty smug for someone who tied for 5th place at Evo 2013.
Re: Video: Check Out The Mario Kart 8 Visual Upgrade in This Retro Track Comparison
Day one purchase for me. I really don't see the lack of great games for Wii U that people keep complaining about. Seems like it will be a great system with loads of great games on it.
Re: The Link Between Worlds Poster Set is Back on Club Nintendo
Missed these the first time around. Glad I got the chance to get them this time.
Re: '90s Arcade Racer Targeting Mid-2014 Release, With 60fps at 720p
This game looks gorgeous! Will definitely buy!
Re: Nintendo Still Seeking a Product to Define the GamePad, With Hopes of Sales Driving Third-Party Support
I think a Paper Mario game for Wii U could really put the game pad to great use.
