Re: Review: Sociable Soccer 24 (Switch) - A Sensible Option For Old-School Footy Fans

I'm surprised to see it get such a good review tbh, I played it on apple arcade and it was ropey as hell, glad to see they have improved it.
One big problem I had with it was the jerky camera movement, how are people finding it?

Funny you should mention Aguascalientes/Necaxa, I absolutely did know who they were but on the apple arcade version none of the mexican teams had even spoofed player names - they are just all random hispanic names, which is very disappointing to me. I guess that's the case for a lot of leagues in the game?

To confirm on the apple arcade version you could rotate the view to vertical and AFAIK they have kept it in the recent pc release. I hope it is smoother though as the camera movement was so jerky it gave me motion sickness and I could barely make it through a single game. If there is a demo I'll gladly give it a go but I have many reservations about this game. Its a real opportunity missed so far

Have played it a bit on Apple Arcade. It's a bit of a leap to say it is especially close to Sensi. I guess the passing is somewhat similar. But you don't get the same level of control over shooting and tackling is a bit of a mess. I don't see many people scoring really nice goals on it either, despite Sensi's apparent simplicity (which I would question anyway), you really could score some beautiful goals on that game.
Also the camera is super jerky, way too sensitive. It actually gave me motion sickness so severely limits how much of it I can play.
Somebody involved with the game claims that some of these concerns have been noted since the release on apple arcade and that this version has moved on but I'm really not sure they can be trusted. So many lies and false promises since this game was announced. I'd at least need to play a demo before buying.

It's better than the 99p drivel football games that you can find on the Switch store but some way short of the mighty Sensi.

By the way, HalBailman - you yuck somebody else's yum and when they offer a differing opinion you shut them down whilst saying we're all entitled to our own opinion? Practice what you preach.

@protocol_penguin Jon Hare has spent the last 25 years desecrating the name Sensible Soccer, bit late to be worrying about that now.

Haven't played it but it looks a bit ropey. I was one of the few who backed this on Kickstarter, though I had my reservations about doing so. I loved Sensi too much, I just had to give it the benefit of the doubt. But the development and promotion of this game has been so astoundingly inept I am just tired of it by now. 6+ years of development and this is all they have to show for it? Their useless CM has been trailing this announcement for a few weeks now and as I type this, still no mention on the official Twitter feed. Whatever. I guess he's too busy reading Viktor Orban's feed. Lovely guy.

Anyway, i find it odd the approach taken with this game - in the excellent book about Sensible Software, Jon Hare goes to great length to explain why Sensi didn't work in 3D, and yet here we are with a 3rd attempt to do it in 3D. What's that all about?

I never thought I'd say this but I'm just tired by now of Sensi. 25 years of bs since the last good release. I'm done.
