Re: Review: Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars 3D (3DS)

Weskerb

Interesting... But can it really stack up to games like Valkyria Chronicles 2 or Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together on the PSP? I highly doubt it, so why the 9/10? Surely it's an 8 max.

Also, How can you recommend such a time consuming game when you are such a strong advocate of reading books? DOES NOT COMPUTE

Re: Review: Steel Diver (3DS)

Weskerb

"Even the firing torpedoes, sonar, and explosions are extremely realistic further enriching the audio presentation."

I lol'd when I read this, I was beginning to think you weren't going to use even once. It wouldn't be a Corbie review without at least one even.

Re: Review: Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D (3DS)

Weskerb

I have PES 2011 on the psp and I've read in other reviews that this game is the same, but with 3D obviously and not all the same game modes.

The gameplay is pretty much the same as what we grew to love on the PS2, unlike PES on the HD consoles, which has evolved into something different. For people who really enjoyed PES on the PS2 and really got into the Master League game mode ( which is too addictive for one's own good), I don't think they can't go wrong with this. It's a very solid game of football, and though it only got a 6/10 wouldn't you say it's the best football game on a handheld that money can buy?

Re: Review: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D (3DS)

Weskerb

Is this the kind of stuff Nintendo really had in mind when they said they wanted to share the 3DS limelight with third party devs!?

Ubisoft is making a joke of itself on the 3DS. Maybe they'll turn things around later this week with 'Combat of Giants Dinosaurs 3D' and 'Rabbids 3D'... Doubt it.

Re: Review: Pilotwings Resort (3DS)

Weskerb

Wierd. It almost feels like Monster Games missed a memo from Nintendo or something. I know they are good devs, but I can't help wishing that this game had been made in Japan, under the watchful eye of Shigs.

Re: Review: Super Monkey Ball 3D (3DS)

Weskerb

It's really annoying when people come on here trying to kill interesting debate. I think Corbs embraces challenges to his review and can handle himself, as demonstrated by his replies.

@Weblaus So where can we read your review?

Re: Review: Super Monkey Ball 3D (3DS)

Weskerb

Actually the toning down of difficulty is a good thing imo. Banana Blitz got overly frustrating for me after about world 4, but i found it really fun up until then, especially going back to try and collect all the bananas. On the 3DS I get the impression from the review that there are 8 enjoyable worlds instead of 4 enjoyable and 4 frustrating worlds. That's a good thing IMO. Real shame about Monkey Target though, that would have been epic in 3D.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life 3DS FAQ

Weskerb

Some UK online retail stores are listing Dead or Alive: Dimensions as a launch title in Europe. Is this true? It's not on your above list of launch titles.

(I hope so)

Re: Review: Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (3DS)

Weskerb

Were you using the analogue stick or the d-pad? Did you try it in pro mode, without the touch screen special moves?

Could you make a thread on the forum where you discuss this "It would be easy to sit here and pick apart all of the things that Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition doesn't do"? If it is not NintendoLife's policy to put that kind of information in its reviews.

Re: Features: 10 Sega Games We Want on 3DS

Weskerb

I would love to see Bayonetta on the 3DS. But I guess you need dual analogue sticks to pull that one off

Also Outrun would be nice as a downloadable title or something.

From your list Shenmue most appeals to me.

Re: Hudson Entertainment Closes its Doors, Cancels its Projects

Weskerb

Wow! That is the end of an era for me. True, I haven't bought a WiiWare game in ages. But, for the first couple of years of it's existence I was buying lots and Hudson were making a lot of my favourites. If their hits weren't making them enough money I shudder to think how other companys relying on WiiWare sales are doing. This news is just another nail in the coffin of WiiWare.

Re: Top Screen Backlight to Blame for 3DS Battery Life

Weskerb

You just have to get used to charging it after everytime you use it. The good thing about the DS is that even if you don't charge it diligently, you know it's gonna work for you. On the other hand, with an Iphone if you forget to charge it at the end of the day that spells problems for the next day. It's gonna be the same for the 3DS.

Re: Watch the 3DS Europe Event Live Online

Weskerb

@James Newton:
From eurogamer:

"Jonathan Ross has hinted that a Metroid 3DS game is in the works.

The Twitter lover took to, yes, Twitter, to reply to one of his Twitter worshippers who had his fingers crossed for a Metroid reveal during this Wednesday's Nintendo press conference in Amsterdam.

"I think you're going to be pleased then..." he replied. Previous tweets suggest Ross will host the event."

Re: Features: Nintendo Life's Game of the Year 2010 Awards

Weskerb

@TBD It's actually a strange category because disappointment is a pretty subjective, if not emotive, judgement on a game. Case in point - SMG2. Objectively, I agree it is the best game of the year, but tbh it was probably my disappointment of the year, because it's basically a bumper add-on pack to SMG. Also I missed the hub world and story of the first one. Hence disapointment, even though its a fantastic game.

Re: Got Move or Kinect? Then Check Out Our Other Sites!

Weskerb

Move and Kinect have done much better than expected (especially Kinect). I hope that translates to more traffic for you guys. But I personally would much prefer more download focused sites, an XBLA site and a PSN site, which also review the platforms' main retail releases as well. Basically Sonylife and MSlife Is it possible?

Re: Features: Nintendo Life's Game of the Year 2010 Awards

Weskerb

SMG2 best game of the year? Probably. Best sound and visuals? Nah. Same as the old one. I would have gone with DKCR or Kirby. I also don't understand how Metroid can be a disappoinment if you gave it a 9/10. Are you backtracking on that? I think you should stick to your own assessments and not play to the gallery so much.

Re: No Love for Super Mario All-Stars in UK Top 20 Chart

Weskerb

Nintendo = Scrooge

It's not on the VC because Nintendo don't want to charge only 800 points for it. Hence - retail, booklet, soundtrack, £20 etc.

All we really want is for it to occupy a slot on our Wii menu next to all the other Nintendo classics, where we can boot it up anytime. Pretty shoddy on Nintendo's part if you ask me, especially when you consider that they actually removed Super Mario World.

Re: Review: Fireplacing (WiiWare)

Weskerb

You know, if all of the negative features or lack of features you mentioned were actually in the game and working I would probably buy this. There is a blueprint here for making a decent fireplace sim here if any dev wanted to make one... Ha! you've actually got me interested in fireplace sims now The mind boggles!

Re: Review: FlingSmash (Wii)

Weskerb

Nice review! When I saw Flingsmash had been reviewed on NL I thought 6 or 7, but you didn't shy away from slamming it like it deserves.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)

Weskerb

I still can't see for the life of me what people see in the old DKC games, but I guess that will have to remain one of life's little mysteries. I'll give this a go when it comes out, as I like 2d platformers and generally trust Corbie's reviews.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)

Weskerb

Well I do like NSMBW so that's a good start. I watched the IGN video review and it definately seems less clunky and more refined than the Rare games. I also have a lot of faith in Retro as devs. So there are a lot of reasons for getting it.

I just wish the reviewers would ackowledge that the originals had problems. As most people know, even Miyamoto said “Donkey Kong Country proves that players will put up with mediocre gameplay as long as the art is good.”.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country Returns (Wii)

Weskerb

I'm still not sure whether to buy DKCR despite all the great reviews it's getting because each reviewer seems to speak about the originals with such reverance that I don't understand. The only thing amazing about the original DKC games was the graphics, I don't know what people see in those games now, there are so many better platformers to speak of from that era.

When each review is like "DKCR captures the greatness of the originals, blah blah blah" that's not what I want to hear... More like DKCR rips up the blueprint and takes series to a whole new level would be better. Otherwise, I can't see how it gets 10/10

Re: Review: Sonic Colours (Wii)

Weskerb

I just ordered my copy from Zavvi for a very reasonable £17.95.

Can't wait for it to arrive, Sonic 4 rekindled my childhood appreciation of Sonic and left me wanting more. 3 days till delivery>>>
