@Dr_Lugae Legal or not, I do not see any moral wrongdoing in doing so (provided you have purchased the product/license at least once) as opposed to nickel & diming consumers for the same product over and over again. Vendor/device-locking and DRM are evil and deserve to die.
@Jamotello Fair point. Though the resulting headset would be obscenely large and would be far less comfortable than Oculus/Vive/PSVR. Then again, if the rumours are to be believed (and I guess we won't find out until Nintendo spills more beans on the issue), a 720p (or even 900p) display wouldn't cut it, I have tried Cardboard on my 720p phone and it doesn't look great. Even the PSVR (a budget device by 2016 VR standards) is 1080p!
@Jamotello Yeah, right. A 720p VR headset. Not to mention the screen real estate is fairly large (6.2-6.5' ish), so one would look like a crazed person whilst wearing one.
@MysticX It doesn't. (Which doesn't rule out a secondary control scheme) Why would one want to play touch screen-heavy games on the big screen anyway? How does one judge his position on the tablet device while simultaneously looking at the TV? That would require some sort of haptic feedback.
@unrandomsam Well, that may be a solution, but it requires lugging around yet another piece of hardware and doesn't work universally across all games. Shield is great, but it's way too huge.
@Kosmo That depends. I actually prefer huge AAA games for I usually play my Vita in a uni cafeteria/library between classes and those breaks usually last 1.5h (at minimum) and I don't want to take my laptop+charger+gamepad/mouse everywhere to get my gaming fix. It already has a reasonably big library of original titles + PSP (didn't really like the system tbh) + PSone (to get your FF fix). That coupled with incredible video playback options and a /useable/ browser are more than enough to warrant a purchase for me.
@Kosmo Not powerful enough? Really? A quick look at the spec sheet of your latest iPhone / pretty much any mid-high end Android device will prove otherwise. Unless you're talking about low end knock-offs that is. 3DS, on the other hand, is MASSIVELY underpowered.
So no, it's not about phones not being powerful enough, it's all about the interface. You simply cannot experience "REAL" games with nothing but a touch screen and a few gyroscopes.
I would also like to counter your opinion about Vita. It's far from mediocre and I ended up using it more than my 3DS. Maybe you should try one before drawing into conclusions (unless of course you've owned one in the past six months).
In the end, no game from this year (apart from GTA V that is) can top Link Between Worlds.
Sony is really trying to pick up the sales of the Vita (even though they've done quite a few missteps, for instance not giving poor handheld taste of the limelight @ E3). I think it will pick up the pace when PS4 hits the market, I doubt it will reach 3DS levels though, Nintendo is still king of dedicated handheld market. They are really losing it in the home segment though. They sure need to Cast a mighty spell that will usher into a nice Dream. See what I did there?
@Vita - it's because Sony is really pushing indies at the moment, giving PS accreditations left and right and helping them get it onto the market. I don't really see Nintendo doing this with the 3DS. Take a look at Kickstarter - most games are bound to Win/Mac/Lin/iOS/Android(+OUYA, GStick, whatever) and occasionally PS4/Vita/WiiU.
And that's only one nail in the coffin, they others being lack of third party support, region lock, less powerful hardware and rather uninspired sequels in main series, so while the fledging 3DS gets blockbusters such as FE:A and SMT, Wii U is stuck with yet another Donkey Kong Country and a copy of Super Mario 3D Land with multiplayer tacked onto it. (Yes, I am aware that similiar games exist on the handheld platform, but they are outweighed by interesting new IPs) Where is the killer app (e.g. new Zelda or proper 3D Mario)? The closest game to this title would have to be Lego City Undercover. Innovation please! And start using the second screen or start bundling Wii U with a Pro Controller. + drop the price by $50 or this thing gets toasted on arrival of PS4. </endrant>
Whoever is in charge of Nintendo's PR department is doing it wrong. They desperately need free publicity especially with Wii U's sales in the toilet. And here they are trying to Mattrick the whole company. Ah well, bad for them I guess.
Well, if somebody uses the same password for e-banking/paypal/whatever as for general websites, they deserve to get a lesson on online security. It's the same as leaving your car open with keys in the ignition (outside of certain Nordic countries that is).
What's up with hacking such meaningless services as of late? It's not like they contain valuable info... except for maybe passwords, but hey, who doesn't use a unique password for these sites is just begging to get robbed...
@Joshers744 See? I am considering an Ouya mainly for its stellar support of XBMC (multimedia, yo). If they utilize hardware acceleration then this thing will blow Raspberry Pi out of the water in terms of raw performance for movie playback. And hey, it even blows Wii U (no multimedia capabilities outside of streaming services that aren't available outside of US and A) and I am pretty sure PS4/Xbone won't come to this level of comfort + they will suck much more electricity out of the socket. I might download a game from time to time or try my hand at the SDK but right now this is what I'd like to do with the little bugger.
Maybe they should reach an agreement with Nintendo to sell those old NES titles. Picture this: Balloon FIght. For 5 euros. A pop.
Now in all seriousness, it is ethically wrong to advertise a product in such way, however offering emulators (albeit practically condemning piracy) isn't in itself an illegal act. The code behind such emulators is (at least in these cases) written by the creators of the software and it doesn't contain any copyrighted material from Nintendo. TL;DR if they don't pack BIOS &/or ROMs with it, they're fine
Alright, found a fix (for the fix) - If you somehow mess up during the download and aren't able to get into the plaza proper, check your Data Management tab in System Settings and delete add-on content (NOT extra data) for StreetPass Mii Plaza. Then just start the app again and it will download all data for you.
I hope they push the notification once again or put the update on eShop otherwise my Mii Plaza is as good as dead.
Still don't understand how they can mess up something as simple as patch distribution. Having an update button directly inside an application that instantly crashes on start-up, how genius is that?
Is there any way to force the app to update on start-up? I booted it up and immediately got an option to download an update. However, the download failed and booted me straight to the home menu. So I launched the software again but it no longer gives me an option to update. I cannot update it manually via the app, because it crashes immediately after I "get" the Pixel Mario hat.

"Videogames are violent" quote, here we go again. No, seriously, I think this is just a load of bollocks. I thought Wii U had a parental control system built-in... Same deal with the 3DS. And I don't think keeping 18+ from accessing content during specific hours is going to help. It's proper censorship that. But yeah, there are not many M-rated games specific to Nintendo platforms, so I'll just stick to the PC with all my violent and gory needs. Kthxbai!
@Klinny Well, neither XBLA nor Steam have to adhere to any stupid rules.

Hah, it's even more expensive than the retail version. Sorry Nintendo, but I think I'll pass on this one. I only buy games digitally if they are way cheaper than their retail counterparts. I'll take that golden box with a cartridge, manual, new game smell and a free coin instead.

Re: Hackers Apparently Add Additional Games to NES Mini
Nice as a proof of concept, but imo it's much better to just gut the insides and put a RPi inside
[though I would say it is much more economical to 3D print the case instead of buying a NES mini]
Re: Nintendo Switch Won't Be Sold At A Loss, Two Million Units To Ship In Time For March
I expect it to retail for $249-279. Anything higher than that is PS4/XBONE territory, anything lower seems unrealistic.
