@LUIGITORNADO We have the right to get our money's worth but the complaints are coming before anyone even knows exactly what we're getting! π
We can't determine what's the best for the money before knowing what we're even gonna have to spend. So it's more like ppl have specific requirements that they want to match what they are willing to pay. Basically telling Nintendo "hey we want that and will pay this for it" Can't do that.
Let's at least wait and see what they're gonna offer us THEN we'll know what we're working with.
@TheFullAndy Know what? EA actually confirmed that Fifa sold better than expected for Switch, which is why they said last time they had plans for more Switch support. They might give us two more, maybe 3, posssssssibly 4 more games....
@Doktor-Mandrake funny I was just saying that. The art style isn't something that would normally bother me, but for SoR You need that feel of being on the streets with some psycho lurking in a dark alley waiting to shank you! π This doesn't look like you have to worry about getting beat down, rather the bad guys don't look any badder than Paula Deen making lemon iced tea on a Sunday afternoon! π
....... It's like... I can't help but be conflicted. On the one hand STREETS OF RAGE IS BACK!!! On the other hand, the fear factor is gone. The colors are too vivid to give that dark alley, life on the streets atmosphere. Like old school SoR mare you "feel" like your life was in danger at every turn. I never gripe about graphics but for a game like this it sorta makes a big difference. It just doesn't have that threatening feel like the originals. It feels like a fun button mashing coin-op more like Double Dragon. But that dark and gritty atmosphere is what totally separated SoR from all the others like DD, Final Fight, Peace Keepers, etc.
@Richnj @Richnj sorry pardna just now seeing this. thing is, it's already been established that the Switch is fairly easy to port to. I'll bring to mind how Doom and MK11 went. A few cuts here and there but they run fine. So although you are right about the resources needed to put into it, that's only if we are talking about projects that have already been completed or are too close to completion to get started on a port (for example as was supposedly the case with Soul Calibur 6) As you said those other games already had ports and assets ready. BUT the "remakes" however were just recently started as of the Switch's current existence and are being completely remade from the ground up anyway. I could understand if they started remaking these games long before the switch dev kits were even made available then yeah it would require more resources allocated to the project because it would be already deep into production. But just like MK11/Switch was developed "alongside" the PS4 and XB1 versions, the modern RE remakes could also have been developed for Switch alongside the PS4 and XB1 versions. They just chose "not to". In other words, Crapcom started specifically from the ground up {on the RE3 remake for instance} for specifically every current platform EXCEPT Switch. Yet had they started with ALL the major platforms in mind from the beginning it would be the same team working on it meaning no additional resources, or they could have handed the Switch version project to another studio just like Netherrealm handed the Switch version of MK11 to Shiver Entertainment and have all ports released within the same timeframe or close to it. If ED BOON is willing to do THAT for NINTENDO, ANYONE can!! π But instead they know they are running out of ideas (have been since 2009) and don't really want to work so they rely on the "Powerhouse consoles" to deliver graphics as their major priority. To show this, why are there so many remakes in the first place when they could use those same resources to just do a brand new sequel or different game altogether? A brand new game can't possibly cost more time, effort, or resources than a completely rebuilt remake because either way it goes both are still gonna be totally new code, new engines, a new dev team etc. The only difference is that a remake is an R&D time saver in that it's an already done idea. it's so much easier to remaster an old painting than it is to originate a brand new one. Now THAT would be the ROI issue. π
......... Ok? ALMOST EVERYONE says the Switch is an important system! BUT how many of you are actually developing quality games for it? All I see is old ports and rehashes (not even remakes) from the major AAA devs followed by excuses when their already twice purchased games don't sell for the third or fourth time. π€¦ββοΈ The interesting thing is how the original excuse for Wii U was how it was underpowered compared to the PS3 and X360, yet here's the Switch which is underpowered and we have fledgling developers doing the jobs of AAA devs making their games work on an underpowered system π€
@Yogsoggoth have you ever broken down a switch and done a performance test? Or have any benchmark charts to determine that? Or just repeating the common opinion? Because clearly as @richnj pointed out the switch is handling several games that ppl thought would "melt it". It's not so much about the hardware as it is about a developer's skills in mitigating hardware limitations. Skilled devs know how to get around problems like that. They know where to and where not to make certain adjustments to provide a solid product. But some devs out there don't want to put in that kind of time and effort (i.e. too lazy to do their jobs and just want to collect a paycheck and go home) which is why they contract other dev studios to do the work instead. I.e. Shiver Entertainment (MK11 Switch) Panic Button (Doom, Wolfenstein, Warframe etc)
Now, if these other, less established devs can do it why can't the MORE established devs with access to more money and resources AND more experience AND bigger teams do it?
To put that into perspective, remember when Midway Games (Now Netherrealm Studios) went bankrupt? After WB bought out Ed Boon and co. notice their games improved GREATLY. That's because they got access to WB resources and manpower. Shiver Entertainment doesn't have that luxury, yet was able to deliver Netherrealm Studios own game with LESS than what Netherrealm Studios has... π€
@Richnj As it is Capcom here, I doubt it's an ROI issue. They put Revelations Collection, Origins Collection, and the RE Triple pack on all three major platforms yet they haven't put any of the "modern" remakes on all three. Do they think the switch is only good enough for the collection packs and not good enough for the remakes?
Ok so, it stopped being an exclusive the moment Sony griped about it and demanded a PS2 version with exclusive content.
Capcom however is full of $Π½jΡ for this! Now this will be the FOURTH TIME this SAME GAME has been created!!! Yet Capcom griped about poor Wii sales being cause for concern despite stellar GameCube sales. OF COURSE IDIOTS! Nobody wants to keep making repeat purchases!π€¦ββοΈ
The question is: "Δ°s there anyone bringing the idea to Nintendo's attention?" While we'd all love to get a Fatal Frame for switch it's not nearly as much a priority as BOTW2 MP4 Bayo3 and No More Heroes 3 since these are the biggest titles trending as we speak, as well as the potentially eventual possibility of P5.
One thing I know for a fact is that Japan has absolutely zero clue what's going on with fans globally because nothing is being mentioned to them. I realized this awhile back when Katsuhiro Harada said he was blown away by the demand for Kazama Kiryu as a Tekken 7 guest character because "he had no clue Western gamers even knew about the character". This made it plain as day guys. Δ°f we want it, we gotta make Japan know we exist! π
If a part of you just wants to cheer us all up, why go thru all that trouble when you could just give us something new on Bayo 3? That would go a great distance to cheer us up!
Basically, this is in the duality fashion of previous Zelda games. Light world/dark world, Lorule/Hyrule etc
Nintendo did say that they pulled a lot of the concept for this game from LoZ right? Well, if we keep with the dual realms concept, this game would basically be the "2nd Quest" (B-side) like LoZ in the form of a sequel rather than DLC. Probably for the better π
@DawgP All true. And another thing I try to always point out that most don't even know about, is that various companies have been literally trying to figure out ways to grab Nintendo's IPs for almost 3 decades now. Or at least somehow cash in on them. Ppl don't know but the whole gaming industry has crosshairs lined up on Nintendo because they are still the most successful gaming company even if not the most liked. The evidence?
Is there a Halo themed amusement park or Master Chief Land in the works? Lol If Nintendo ever fell, everyone in the entire business world would slaughter one another in a battle royale to acquire just Mario alone! That property is the absolute most valuable in entirety of consumer electronics entertainment. That's why Nintendo is overprotective. They are always under attack.
So, in a similar post I tried pointing out what recently happened to the Corona beer company. For those who don't know Corona lost billions of dollars a few weeks ago simply because of the name. That's it. Nobody caught the virus from drinking their beer, none of their employees reported any infections nothing like that at all. BUT simply because the name of the beer is the same as the name of the virus it cost these guys a crap ton of money despite the beer company legally owning the name and having it first.
Any simple, insignificant and absolutely ridiculous issue can cost a company a fortune. What you guys think is harmless creativity can be potentially devastating.
@Borngis It's a profit vs risk formula. the 2 main reasons for certain exclusives are either a specific company paid for exclusive control/distribution of the licensed property (less common) or because the game devs feel they may lose more money going multiplat because of the time, labor, resources, and general manufacturing costs (more common) so they have their financial guys look at numbers to determine which choice will yield the most profit and minimize the most risk.
Basically, if they feel that one of their games won't be profitable enough by marketing to Nintendo users (typical excuse) they will instead cut out what they feel would be an unnecessary loss and stick with the platform they feel will bring in the most money. it's all based on platform sales (not really, it's actually based on narrow and general assumptions based on platform sales)
@GAMER1984dude2 Not that nobody cared, rather didn't expect anything from Atlus at all. it seems coincident but it isn't really. If you look at the recent trend, JRPGS have been finding their home on Sony machines with Nintendo being largely ignored, specifically by Atlus. We wanted their games. We just didn' think they would bother. (I personally haven't played Smash since Brawl let alone play Joker in Ult)
Wait... so... the same Atlus that did all those GBA games back in the day, mostly remakes of, or sequels to licensed properties like Double Dragon Advance and River City Ransom EX is surprised that they have a lot of fans that want their games on a Nintendo???
if you go to their website it's pretty clear that by comparison NINTENDO DEVICES support the majority of their games!! to put this into perspective, Atlus has been supporting the Playstation brand quite a bit while not so much Nintendo yet the 3DS ALONE supports 24 of their games not including gameboy << compatible games. PS Vita only supports 14...
It's not NoA that's the problem, it's American society. Some highly sensitive issues have been popping up lately plus people are specifically gunning for Ninty with lawsuits so I would be extra cautious too. Those devs have an already established track record meaning less risk than someone new to the industry. Remember what happened with Street Fighter and Overwatch as apparently fans weren't very pleased with the appearances of certain characters? Things like this are far less of an issue in places like Japan or Europe! π Another thing is even though Ninty is looking for more mature content for the Switch, they don't (and you shouldn't either) want the console to become absolutely FLOODED with mature titles and because we LOVE such games imagine what happens when one indie gets the green light how many others will follow suit. A company has to take every precaution it can even if it seems unreasonable because the entertainment industry is not very forgiving and when the wrong people get something to use against you they do all in their power to bring you down.
