This comment thread would have me believe people want Gamefreak to put off all events for the first year so that everyone can play at their own pace. This event in particular will be very easy to beat with just one good player on your squad, and they contain nothing that you can't already get through regular gameplay. Calm down and play the event or don't, no one will ultimately miss out on anything. In the meantime, it will be a fun reason for the faster players to dive back into the game for some weekend raids with friends--as offensive as that notion apparently is to some people.
Needless to say, agreed. Xenoblade is one of my favorite series of all time and I am very disappointed I have not been able to play X yet, but I'm also not willing to buy a Wii U just to play it. A port is desperately needed here. Maybe in a year or two now that the trilogy is complete...?
I'm probably in the minority here but the DLC was too pricey for me and I have no interest in paying even more for the online subscription when I really only use it to play one or two games online (I can still play every N64 game I want to on my actual N64). I'd love to give it a try and get back in the swing of things but I need a sale on that DLC...
I don't love that some people are so quick to make excuses for a late review with no actual knowledge about what's going on. At the same time, I agree that a good review released late is better than a bad, rushed review. I know, nuance is hard.
I've never played this series so I have no strong feelings on it, but I will say that I would be much more likely to take stuff like this seriously if we had more to work with than dramatic social media posts and associated speculation. It just seems like there are better ways to address issues like this and advocate for change.
The ending was great, don't know what people could have wrong with it unless they were wanting some kind of storybook/Hollywood ending, in which case I'd say they missed the point of the game.
Looking at these comments, apparently I'm the only one, but I'm definitely excited for more content. Bought the DLC day 1 just based on the strength of the the DLC in Xenoblade 2, and will play all the DLC as soon as it's out.
Since I don't think it was necessarily implied that the only goal on the island is to survive...team fun for me, though I'm sure we'll get demolished. Not enough numbers.
@Friendly Agreed. I'm a big fan of music, and the only music review site I trust is one which utilizes their entire scoring spectrum. You know that if an album isn't good, they will just tell you, and if they award something a high score, it's because it actually deserved it. Too many review sites across media are basically just written by fans with no real discernment for what really makes an album or a game good or bad.
Edit: And yes, I know people will try to light me up with arguments about subjectivity in art, but as a musician...yes, there are absolutely objective standards that separate good and bad music, and I am sure it is the same in video games.
@Octane You say that as though the history of the company and its most influential members, which was detailed very well in this very article, have absolutely no bearing on what the relatively new studios are doing. I think it's still fair to say that this studio, even as a larger and more divided entity than before, does great work across the board...clearly something is still very much tying their separate teams together.
Wonder what this would look like if they included revenue from the equipment people need to listen to vinyl, CDs, and DVDs. That's essentially what they did including hardware and software into one category for Switch and Playstation.
Edit: Also I feel sorry for those who have apparently stopped enjoying physical music media in recent years, but as others pointed out, they are far from dead.
I'm not sure I understand all the talk about whether the game justifies its own existence. The alternative here would likely be for the series to do what every other series like it does, and become a free game riddled with micro transactions that would likely demand far more than $60 from its players every five years. This is essentially a one-time fee for a big update to the same formula that lets us avoid a less savory form of monetization--completely worth it I would think for most fans of the series.

I'm willing to bet "doom metal" doesn't mean what this reviewer thinks it means...
