Re: Soapbox: Dark Souls’ Ruthless Recipe Perfectly Suits Switch’s Evolving Audience

Sasafras

Anybody on the fence over Dark Souls due to it's perceived difficulty, please don't be.
I avoided touching Dark Souls for years due to the weird clannish 'Git Gud' brigade who revel in fetishizing the difficulty and keeping out the 'Casuals'
I've been gaming for over 25 years but am by no means very good at it, but I absolutely love the whole Soulsborne series. Purists will tell you to play blind but there's a whole wealth of info to be had online on builds and tactics to make your souls experience a whole lot smoother; It need only be as difficult as you want to make it.

In short:
Don't let the weirdo insular hardcore crowd discourage you from trying a game you may well love, with great music, incomparable atmosphere, amazing bosses, trippy fashion statements and weird npcs who all end every sentence with an inappropriate bone dry chuckle

Re: Nintendo Switch Pre-Order Stock - Tough to Find in the US, Easier in the UK

Sasafras

1 more available in the UK now since I cancelled my pre order with Amazon in order to wait for more than one game I'm interested in playing, some confirmation that the online model isn't going to be as horrendous as it currently seems, and ideally a price cut if not on the system then at least the pro controller, enough good stuff coming out on PC and PS4 this year without taking the massive gamble the Switch is increasingly looking like

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Switch Presentation?

Sasafras

Undecided at the moment, Switch is in an odd position where its too chunky and the battery life doesn't sound too great so unlikely to tke this to work with me as a handheld, and doesn't seem to offer a great deal as a home console.
A little disappointed by the price point too, seems a touch steep for the specs on offer. Ultimately its all about the games though, while Zelda looks amazing I have a Wii U for that, and Mario isn't until the holiday season, other than that none of the announced games seemed like anything other than typical Nintendo launch window filler desperate to show off the new gimmick.
Maybe this time next year there'll hopefully be a stronger library and a small price cut, then I'll likely pick one up.
I hope the Switch sells well, but at the moment I'm not sure who Nintendo are pitching this thing to

Pleasantly surprised with the reveal trailer, slick looking device, and was pleased to see it featured adults using the device, had feared Nintendo was going to be aiming this one almost exclusively at kids.
very pleased to see the likes of Fromsoft and Square Enix on board for 3rd party support, hope they bring some great games to the system.
As for being excited for the system, it's just too soon to say, I don't get a lot of mileage out of portable devices since I drive to work , and otherwise don't travel that much.
Ultimately I need far more information on specs, storage space and what games we're going to get before I can even think about buying a Switch

Re: Ubisoft Has "Surprises" Yet to be Announced for Nintendo NX

Sasafras

To me, all this talk of family gaming ties in to the recent messaging we've had from Nintendo.
Talk of recapturing the 'lost generation' of young gamers, of being in a different market to Sony and Microsoft and that horrible youtube show they're pushing with guy who seems to be a sugar rush incarnate.
If the leaked specs for the NX are anything like true, I expect it to be a complete departure from 'core gaming' focused almost entirely on serving up minigame collections, app store style edutainment, and shorter, much less complex products featuring Nintendo's stock IPs.
While this is very sad for a longtime Nintendo gamer like me who doesnt have any kids, I truly hope this enormous market of gaming families exists and that Nintendo can tap into it and get some great sales figures
