Re: Review: Flashback (Switch)

RetroGamingBlog

Been putting a few hours in this. I’m going to outright say it. The rewind feature makes this better than the original in my opinion. I had the Amiga and Megadrive versions. Loved them - but never completed them.

I did however play and complete Fade to Black.

This game is deffo worth picking up and it’s more fun now than it ever was.

Unfortantely I’m going to skip these as I would only be interested in the rather cool Collection PS4 and XB1 owners are enjoying. I love the nostalgic bedroom hub - I also own most of these on stream.

Until the collection is released I’m holding off from purchasing any MD content on Switch (bar the collection of released).

Re: Rumour: Retro Studios Is Working On A Secret Star Fox: Grand Prix Title For Switch

RetroGamingBlog

I absolutely love the Star Fox IP, Argonaut’s first entry using Jez San’s FX chip still remains close to my heart, next to Lylat Wars.

I’m not impressed if this turns out to be the next step with the IP. Zero was close to being great and could have been a superb arcade shooter without the hammed in control method.

Just give us a Star Fox game akin to the puppet shows like Thunderbirds or Stingray, from where it was based.

Super Play’s front cover of the original promotion got it spot on.

Here’s hoping sone sort of Star Fox announcement gets made.

Re: Review: Immortal Redneck (Switch eShop)

RetroGamingBlog

This is a good review but I think I’m going to pass on the game. With DOOM and the Outlast series I’m pretty happy, plus the comments of this looking sub HD have put me off.

I loved Serious Sam, Duke Nukem, PO’ed, Killing Time and Exhumed - so those are drawing me in a bit, if the game is reminiscent of those titles.

Props to the peeps who know what PO’ed and Killing Time are. #goodtimes

Re: Review: FIFA 18 (Switch)

RetroGamingBlog

Based on my experience of the demo at EGX I purchased and I'm pleasantly surprised. I honestly haven't played FIFA for years. The 3DO and 98 version was my last stint. I've dipped back in on the Switch and I'm having fun so far.

I'm not a hardcore FIFA player so make of my comments what you like. But I'm impressed with it. The PS4 and Xbox versions look better, but as I don't own those consoles I'm happy to go the Switch route.

Re: Review: NAM-1975 (Switch eShop / Neo Geo)

RetroGamingBlog

This is a great review, only in as much as I totally agree with what you've said! The issue I've always had with NAM is the control scheme - not great, and purposefully so I expect. It's a mechanic that promotes coin pumping.

Ah, a good ol' coin pump. Those were the days!

Re: HAMSTER Releases Updates for All Current ACA Neo Geo Titles on Nintendo Switch

@Menchi187 only just spotted this now! Yeah, off looks best to me too as the lines are crisp. I own the originals, MVS on cabinet. The blur filter is awful and I actually thought it was a terrible conversion/emulation.

As it is, all the titles are great except for Slug 3 which runs with some frame rate issues. Other than that, they are great. Wish online play was an option, but one can dream!

Re: Don't Worry, The Nintendo Switch Kickstand Is Designed To Snap Off

RetroGamingBlog

Often unappreciated it's these little intricacies of design built into the aesthetics that show you how far console gaming has come. It also shows you how much care and afterthought has gone into the product not only from an ergonomic point of view - but the guts of the system itself, much like the WiiU, is impressive in it's power management.

This is a company that is conscious of the user, environment and overall experience.

The kickstand I suspect is just the tip of the iceberg. Nintendo really keen to avoid another "Wiimote killed my TV" controversy.
