Re: Round Up: The Rune Factory 5 Reviews Are In

I absolutely love it! It's a wonderful game, even if the fps does stutter a little here and there. I think games in this genre never get the scores they deserve, but I think they're worth trying. I've loved this genre since I was a kid, and rune factory is one of my very favorites. I can't recommend it enough for a comfy gaming experience.

Re: Best Of 2021: How Accessible Are Zelda, Pokémon And Animal Crossing For Blind Gamers?

Pixel-Florist

I really appreciate seeing articles like this, written by people with disabilities, talking honestly about gaming with disabilities. I've been disabled since I was 14, and have found incredible solace in gaming over the years. There have been many times a few small tweaks have made a game I otherwise wouldn't have been able to play accessible to me. The sense of joy you feel when you realize that the people who made this game cared enough to make sure that as many people as possible could play it is amazing. Not having to miss out on an experience you really want to have because of an Illness or circumstance you cannot control is a beautiful thing. Accessibility improvements in gaming can literally change lives- Everyone, no matter if they're disabled or able bodied, deserves to have a hobby that makes them happy.

Re: Pokémon Fans Get 'Game Freak Lied' Trending As Sword And Shield Drama Intensifies Yet Again

I’m not one of the people going off on GF for ‘lying’ or harassing other people with my opinions on this, but I am a little concerned that game freak hasn’t spoken up about the dex at all. Clearly it’s something that a big portion of fans are concerned about, and I think addressing it would help people feel better. If what some of the leaks online say are true (no global trading/the textures looking as low res/big performance issues) then I’m not sure how I feel about things- I’ve loved Pokémon for a long time, and I want the series to continue to do well, with quality games. Reusing sprites and animations is absolutely fine- ‘work smarter, not harder’ is a good rule of thumb in game design. But GF’s social media and interviews and trailers going along like a huge portion of their fan base isn’t worried about the quality of the game I say a little...off. I think if they’d address these issues and talk with their community things would calm down a lot. Right now things are festering with speculation, and there’s nothing from the devs to lead people to think otherwise. Communication is extremely important. I’d say, for anyone afraid/upset/angry that the leaks are accurate, take a deep breath and wait a few days. Once the game is out, you can watch a let’s play and decide if it’s right for you.

@DeltaPeng I’m going to give you a link to a talk done at the GDC. This should help set you right. Every disabled person on this earth has heard the “you should aim for mass market appeal” excuse. But in reality? Around 15% of the global population has a diagnosed, severe disability. That doesn’t include undiagnosed illnesses. It took 7 years for me to get my diagnosis, and my disease isn’t rare. Disabled people are an important market demographic. Watch the talk. It’s good.

@Seananigans accessibility isn’t a restriction- it’s literally the opposite. Adding options into a game to make them as flexible as possible for as many people as possible is good for not only the people who play those games, but the games industry itself. Celeste did it. Eagle Island did it, Gears 5, Horizon 0 Dawn...the list goes on. Great games that tell stories and have incredible gameplay. All also made accessible for people with disabilities. I would recommend checking out a site called “Can I Play That.” It’s a great site, where disabled people write accessibility reviews on games. CherryRae, a popular twitch partner, also talks a lot about why accessibility in games is important, and consults with game devs to help them achieve that. Disabled people deserve to play whatever games they want, and do it comfortably. “Artist vision” is a silly thing to hide behind- you can make groundbreaking games and make them accessible too.

@Seananigans People with disabilities exist, and need exercise just as much as anyone else. In fact, an argument could be made that things like this should be designed with people with disabilities in mind specifically. generally people with physical disabilities can’t use most gyms at all (wheelchair accessible buildings are rare, to alone a gym that caters to disabled people) may not be able to leave their homes regularly, or may not be able to afford a gym membership. Signed, a person with mobility issues, who knows a lot of other physically disabled people, who are all using this game to exercise and enjoying themselves immensely. I will say that I think this game could use more accessibility options, and would love to see more content added down the road to vary the exercises available. But I’m definitely a fan- I think we could use more games like this.

Re: Nintendo Officially Unveils Ring Fit Adventure, An Exercised-Based Adventure Game

@premko1 I was watching this this morning and wondering about options for people without lower body mobility myself. I’d like more information about this particular aspect of it all. I have days where I can’t walk, and have limited mobility, and have been looking for ways to exercise regularly that help distract from the pain of doing so. Something like this seems perfect, but only if there’s are options for people who can’t walk, run, or stand.

Re: GameStop Set To Close 180 - 200 "Underperforming" Stores This Fiscal Year

Pixel-Florist

on one hand, game stop has killed off so many indy game stores in my area over the years, and has horrible customer service. (I tried to return a game because it was unplayable due to my disability and they just kind of laughed and gave me $2.50). But now, they're the only game store left in my area. I buy digitally most of the time, because unlike gamestop I can generally get a refund on a digital purchase if it's unplayable, but when I do buy physically (generally the games I'm most excited about or are gigantic) it's at my local gamestop. I live in a rural area, so sometimes the internet makes downloading huge titles impossible, and also way more likely that the gamestop in my area is one of the ones going down. I'm not a fan of gamestop at all, and the way they treat employees and customers alike is abominable, but if the one near me closes the only place I'll have to buy games is digitally or an hour's drive.

Re: Harvest Moon: Light of Hope Special Edition Complete Launches On 30th July

Pixel-Florist

I've played this title, with all of the DLC, and got halfway through the game (15 or so hours, and I was taking my time) before putting it down with pure disgust. I've tried all of the new 'harvest moon' games and have gotten more depth, story, and fun out of ftp mobile games. Leave anything published under the title Harvest Moon after 2013 alone. The last real HM game published under the Harvest Moon title was A New Beginning. Story of Seasons is the series now being created by the original producer and artist of Harvest Moon. Natsume has been making these horrible rip offs since acquiring the rights to the title, and they're all a waste of time and money. They're cheap games making all of their money off or people who remember the title and logo of the originals and think "oh, those were great!". Story of Seasons is where it's at- and we're getting 2 new ones: Story of Seasons: Reunion with Mineral Town, and Doraemon Story of Seasons.

Re: Story Of Seasons: Friends Of Mineral Town Gets Western Release And New Info

Pixel-Florist

Everyone seems to feel so negatively towards this title, but I'm really looking forward to it. I think the art style is warm and cozy, and I'm happy to see all the effort that was put into the little (and big) details. I've been playing Harvest Moon since I was very small, and I think this looks like a great blend of all the things that Made Mineral Town such a memorable title with some of the modernization that SOS has brought to the series. Calling this a glorified smart phone game is pretty harsh. A glorified (and literal) smartphone game is Harvest Moon Light of Hope (and everything else Natsume has published under the HM title in recent years.) It's not necessarily the art direction I thought they'd go in for the next SOS installment, but I think it looks very welcoming, and I'm incredibly excited to play this title when it comes to the west. I loved Stardew Valley, and still do, but hearing everyone rag on every other farming sim title that comes to the west simply because it isn't SDV is getting pretty old. I can't wait to add this title to my collection, and play it for a long time to come. The team making this game is the same team that made the original, artist and all, and I don't think they would let this game be a disappointing remake of one of their most popular titles. Give it some love, and give it a chance.
