Re: Sega Recreates Classic "Genesis Does What Nintendon't" Ad To Promote Mega Drive Mini

PachterStation

I remember first seeing the Mega Drive back in 1988, that's how far back the Japanese release goes. Still a bit of a mystery how it flopped in Japan. When it was finally released in the UK, my Commodore 64 was gone, l never owned a computer for gaming again. I remember buying Genesis games half the price of UK games and even cheaper Japanese games, using a gold Honeybee cartridge due to cartridges being a different shape. Too many classic games to list, but the likes of Forgotten Worlds, Tazmania, Strider, MERCS, Two Crude Dudes and all the usual SEGA games, l preferred the Mega Drive over the Super NES. I still say ESWAT was the best game. The Master System converter. Mega Drive Tetris on the Mega Drive Mini will be awesome. The music and sound effects of Strider. My head is about to explode!

Re: Japanese Charts: Nintendo Switch Is Already On The Verge Of Surpassing PS4's Lifetime Sales

PachterStation

But the PS4 is a home console, not a handheld. Nintendo has pulled out of home consoles, the Switch caters for gamers who enjoy playing games at home and on the go. And people forget that all those years ago, the PSP could be connected to a TV, so the Switch is nothing new. Totally pointless comparing handhelds to home consoles. Nintendo claim that the Switch hasn't replaced the 3DS, that it's replaced the Wii U. The Switch has replaced both the 3DS and Wii U. But we all knew the Switch tech can only go so far. And evidence proves that the Switch has been hammered with indie games. Take away indie games, Wii U ports and a handful of games that we've seen on PS and Xbox consoles, there's very little to choose from. The Switch is selling well, but it'll never hit high sales. Once PS4 and Xbox Two surface, Nintendo will need to start again. But as ever, having the tech has never been Nintendo's priority.

Re: Talking Point: Five Key Challenges Nintendo Faces with the NX

Console power and games is the key. But Nintendo need to give some franchises a rest. A new Wave Race on the NX is surely due? As for pricing, enough people bought the PS4 for £400 at launch (US gamers would choke at the exchange rate). Enough proof that gamers will pay it. The console, controllers and games, nothing will clock in on the affordable side. Rumours of it being a digital console, if it's true, games will top £60 easy, excluding DLC. If Nintendo goes digitial only, it'll once again be in control (the notorious NES licencing days).

Re: Exclusive: We Almost Got A Wii U F-Zero Created By Burnout Studio Criterion

PachterStation

I'm not a fan of remakes, but the GameCube version (GX) including the arcade tracks (AX) that Nintendo decided to lock in (this can be reversed using an Action Replay disc), I'd settle for GX on the Wii U. Why Nintendo did this is a mystery. It's about time there was a sequel to Stunt Race FX and more so Wave Race. The last one was crap on the GameCube. How it never happened on the Wii is another mystery.

Re: Planning On Downloading Xenoblade Chronicles 3D? You Might Need A Bigger microSD Card

PachterStation

@JetForceSetGrind So what? It still comes at a cost to upgrade. You mean to tell me that Nintendo didn't know before the New 3DS was released that a 4GB micro SD card wouldn't be suitable for future games? Nintendo has a history with this tactic. If Nintendo releases another handheld, it wouldn't surprise me if they do what Sony did with the Vita memory card fiasco. The cost of the 3DS at the moment, added costs are far from ideal.

Re: Planning On Downloading Xenoblade Chronicles 3D? You Might Need A Bigger microSD Card

PachterStation

Anyone with an inch of common sense will realise this is a con. A 4GB memory card, that's way too low, then you have to take the 3DS apart to slot in another memory card. Look at the Vita, high capacity memory cards are a rip off, the console doesn't even come packaged with one. This sort of thing has been going on for years and years. But Nintendo are kings at milking fans with added extras.

Re: Hideki Konno Emphasizes That Mario Kart 8 Balancing Means It's Not All About Luck

PachterStation

Being in 1st place and being hit by a blue shell, more like 6 items within seconds of each other. That's bad luck because it's programmed into the game. On the SNES, N64 and GBA, it was balanced. Can't remember how it was balanced on the GC, but on the Wii, it was painfully unfair, but not so much on the DS and 3DS. I hope things have changed with the Wii U. You also have to consider younger gamers, as Mario Kart 8 is rated 3+. Nintendo talks trash sometimes. As if they don't understand their own games. They don't need feedback from gamers. It sticks out like a sort thumb that the balance has been wrong for years.

Re: Smartphone Game Market Shows Impressive Growth in Japan

PachterStation

Looking at prices of the 3DS XL in the UK, which can top £250 ($415) with a game (from Nintendo's UK store), handheld gaming is expensive, not forgetting the high price of smart phones. 3DS XL prices around the world are at rip off prices. If Nintendo is bringing in the money, handhelds are here to stay. The 3DS XL and Wii U are on par with each other (price wise). Nintendo's pricing is all to hell.

Re: Remake Request: Virtua Fighter 2

PachterStation

VF2 was far, far better than VF, but VF3 was terrible. The 2 VF4 games on the PS2 brought back the series (more so VF4 Evolution). VF5 on the PS3 was a top game, but the Xbox 360 version looked and played better, even SEGA admitted it was more polished with extras. SEGA releasing VF5 Final Showdown via PSN and XBL was a bad idea (never got to play it). VF6 on the PS4 and One is a probable yes.

Re: Shinji Mikami Prefers The Sega Version Of Aladdin, Even Though He Worked On The SNES Game

PachterStation

Hands down, the Mega Drive version was better. The SNES version was decent, but it didn't look or play as good. Back in those days, Mega Drive games would top £40 and SNES games would top £60. I remember getting the Mega Drive version (brand new) for £40, I think the SNES version was £50 (I got it used ages after). If my memory serves me right, I think there was an Aladdin SNES pack in the UK. But games like Quackshot, Tazmania, Castle of Illusion and World of Illusion have gone down as classic Mega Drive games. But as soon as the PlayStation was released, Disney games died, but Tarzan was decent. On the SNES, Magical Quest was a decent game (I didn't play the sequel). The Mega Drive had the better Disney games hands down. Mega Drive versus SNES, I much preferred the Mega Drive. Having a UK console, Genesis games came out first and could be bought for as little as £20 new. But UK games had better covers. As for Street Fighter 2 on the Mega Drive, it was ace using an official 6 button controller.

Re: Video: Please Don't Let This Wii U Star Fox Footage Get Your Hopes Up

PachterStation

No way does Starfox deserve a sequel. The first game on the SNES was poor and looking at Starfox 2 that was never released on the SNES, can't say it had much going for it. Lylat Wars 64 was great on the Nintendo 64, Starfox on the GameCube (developed by NAMCO), was average. But Nintendo decided to put Lylat Wars 64 on the 3DS which was a poor decision. All those great Nintendo 64 games and Lylat Wars 64 was picked. Games that are crying out for a sequel are Wave Race and Stunt Race, more so Wave Race. Wave Race on the GameCube was a poor game, but on the Nintendo 64, it was amazing and still is. Can't say I'm a big fan of remakes, but Wave Race 64 on the 3DS would be awesome. But the ultimate would be a new Wave Race on the Wii U and 3DS. But looking at the evidence, Nintendo has slowed right down with new releases and it's the same old franchises. Too many poor decisions are being made down at Nintendo HQ.

Re: Pachter: Without Third Party Support Nintendo Fans May End Up Buying A Second Console

PachterStation

@DESS-M-8 A PS4 will set you back about £400 with a camera which isn't included. I'd even say at £149 for the white model, extra for a game and an external hard drive and a controller, the price shoots right up. £99 for a Wii U is never going to happen. And Nintendo needs plenty of third party support and exclusives to drive sales, but it's never going to happen. Nintendo's own games won't drive sales much. Most gamers lagged on to the Wii and realised it was just a fad, so they've stayed away from the Wii U. And now the Xbox One and PS4 are out there, it's a massive blow for Nintendo. And delaying Mario Kart 8 until 2014 is yet another bad decision by Nintendo.
